Shouldn't that have been the other way around? Sandow was a main roster guy doing it first, no? Why not stop the developmental talent from doing what was already being done?
I think the main thing was Sandow was only doing it now and then where it is the main focus of Aiden English's gimmick.

So, for the guys who watch Japanese wrestling...is there any major difference between Puro and American style in terms of psychology? Is it the same but approached another way?
The biggest difference is that they don't really have characters and tend to work the bulk of their matches as athletic contests, so the story is usually a war of attrition.
In North America the psychology is greatly influenced by your character, which gives greater scope to the stories told in the ring, for instance you have a guy like Mankind who'll destroy his own body to hurt his opponent, where in contrast you have someone like Damien Sandow who will try to win using smarts and avoid pain. I think the variety of sizes and styles in the WWE melting pot broadens the match psychology options.
