Its a 90s trend that other franchises moved on from but that FOX still toys with for some reason

The X-Men franchise is only just now moving away from it and we still haven't seen Wolverine in his comics costume yet

Heh, I know that. I posted that quote more as a reference to the colour. **** all black costumes!

I think the black costumes are a sign of insecurity. Film-makers are afraid audiences will laugh at characters in colorful costumes, so they try to do something 'cooler'.

. . . and then they make the Thing Naked with no d*** and give him the voice of a 12 year old.

I was responding to my SHH boyfriend. "Yes" is my response when I hear that line as well. I like X-Men but I've never liked those costumes.

Nobody makes costumes with spandex now, nobody.
I know. It is also why the costumes work now.

Black Panther, Zatanna, Black Canary, Venom, the Punisher, and Janet say you can go jump in a lake. :cwink:

Depends on the character imo. I don't think characters like Superman, The Flash or the Fantastic Four should suddenly be wearing "dark" costumes. But it can fit others. Also the color doesn't matter if the design is crap like the X-Men outfits or these FF ones.

Black works for X-Men, the color is too much of a contrast with the dramatic background of discrimination, but a lighthearted adventure like FF could use at least something like Superman in MOS (Discrete color, and simple, functional)

I think the X-Men costumes could be made a dark blue in future films.

The Story Fantastic Four costumes actually were really good to me. Perfect, too bad the movie wasn't good

It's almost like they sat down with a notepad and watched the Tim Story films. They made a list of what worked and what didn't...

...then they threw away everything that worked and kept everything that didn't.

Maybe an intern accidentally threw out the wrong notepad.

Why on earth should Taskmaster be wrapped up with X-Men rights? Taskmaster originated as an Ant-Man and Avengers villain and has consistently appeared with them. That's like having Ultron wrapped up with X-Men just because they might have somehow crossed paths at one point.

And the Shi'Ar and Brood are a joke of a trade.

As for Viper, they already have Madame Hydra, which is another name for Viper.

And there's no real need for Juggernaut since he's more of an X-Men villain.

I remember that Fox was planning a Taskmaster film a few years ago since he's tied up with the Deadpool rights. Kang is over at Fox because he's occasionally fought the FF and this is the same exact situation.

And James Gunn wants to use the Shi'Ar. They're an integral part of non-X-Men stories like Galactic Storm, Annihilation, Annihilation: Conquest and War of Kings.

When was it confirmed that Marvel owns the rights to the name Madame Hydra? Most of her appearances were in Wolverine comics and we've seen her in a Fox film. She's needed if we ever hope to see a Serpent Society film which would introduce Diamondback as a recurring character.

There are next to no stories involving the Brood which don't involve Captain Marvel in some form or another.

Juggernaut also fought Spider-Man and Hulk multiple times and he was also a member of the Thunderbolts.

And Shi'Ar and Brood along with all the FF characters means that Marvel will have a complete cosmic universe. It's not a, "joke of a trade" as much as it allows future Guardians sequels to have maximum creative freedom + it stops Fox from doing a Starjammers spin-off film. This forces Fox to either merge their X-Men universe with the MCU or face irrelevance. It's a perfect deal which gives Marvel everything they could ever want from Fox. X-Men merch would become profitable, they'd have all their cosmic stuff in one place and they'd have Fox forced to focus only on the X-Men.

I think saying it wouldn't have been difficult may have been poor word choice on my part, but at the very least, Fox could have attempted to move in the right direction rather than the wrong direction.

Maybe it's because of my familiarity with the characters and recognition of what a good FF film needs, but I do see it as an easier task than Guardians of the Galaxy or Ant-Man. How do you make audiences take a talking raccoon seriously? How do you make audiences take a man that talks to ants seriously? How do you make those minor characters into broadly accepted films?

So I do tip my hat to Marvel for what they did with those specific properties, but I don't think FF is some mysterious property that is difficult to figure out.

Don't make it an origin story.
Don't repeat the mistakes of the Tim Story films.
Do give it a reasonable budget.
Do make it visually spectacular with cool creatures, gadgets, sets and locations.
Do give it a proven director who likes and understands the comic books.
Do make it visually similar to the comic books with blue uniforms with '4's on them.
Do find a cast that fits the characters as they've been portrayed for 50 years.
Do one of the most iconic villains in comic-book history right.

So reaching the upper echelon, might not be easy, but I believe following the guidelines I've just typed out with 30 seconds of thought would have made for a much better, much more accepted film that would have had a chance to be embraced by fans.

Trank (after reading that): "F*** that. I'll go off and do my own thing!"
MBJ: "They'll see it anyway."

:o

Marvel could easily create new alien races for Captain Marvel or the Guardians to face off against. They already did that with the Guardians last year with one of the races.

The Shi'Ar and Brood are rather generic compared to very specific characters like Dr Doom, Kang, Silver Surfer, Galactus, Super Skrull, etc, along with the Fantastic Four.

Getting the Brood for X-Men rights is like just getting one of these faceless cannon fodder soldiers at the end of these Avengers movies. Chitauri/ Ultron Drones. They are simply not people with personalities. Loki could have used an alien race with a completely different look and the movie would've been exactly the same. And that's what the Brood are ultimately like.

No they didn't. The Sakaarans are an established race in the MU. Ever read Planet Hulk? They just couldn't use the Badoon so they used aliens with more history to them.

And the Shi'Ar are one of the three big alien races along with the Skrull and Kree empires. Have you ever read Galactic Storm, Annihilation, Annihilation Conquest or War of Kings? Those are all big Shi'Ar storylines which either revolve around the Avengers or Guardians. They're important to the Marvel U and getting them bundled with the Fantastic Four would be a dream come true since they'd see far more use at Marvel than they ever would at Fox.

Why are you against these characters coming back home at all cost, even if they're bundled with the FF?

Has anyone else seen or posted this?

http://furiousfanboys.com/2015/07/fantastic-four-reviews-are-embargoed-until-release/

Review embargoes aren’t uncommon. Even Marvel does it

But when a studio embargoes reviews until the movie is actually playing in theaters it’s 99% of the time a sign that the movie is crap. They want to try to get those advance ticket sales locked in before people can find out how bad the movie really is. For comic fans this could be a good sign as if the movie bombs horribly, maybe Fox won’t make that sequel and eventually the rights will revert back to Marvel.

If there's a good movie here somewhere, they'd almost have to be making an effort to hide it with these bad trailers.

people forget that, even if the movie is a bad adaptation of fantastic four, it does not mean it is as bad movie itself...

this could be a very good movie, that sucks compared to the priginal story, but its good independently...
