Obsessive is just not one of the first charateristics I think of when thinking of any of the guys that have been The Flash. It also feels off to me if what you want is a film with a tone "lighter" than MOS. That's just me.
Sorry, here you go -
JMS on The Flash:

That, plus a slightly brighter, warmer tone than MoS... I'm there, man.
dianne nelson "our strategy has been different from that. I think more "precise" is the word. It's a specific vision from a specific filmmaker rather than a full slate."
The one element of the Flash comics I don't really care for is him being able to go through time; it doesn't make any sense to me. Also, I never understood the whole "speed force" deal; whatever happened to Barry Allen simply being struck by lightning?
Time travel is really hard to substantiate. I think most scientists are in agreement that travelling back in time is impossible and traveling to the future is a one way trip. Then again what's the fun in that i the Flash can't do it? They could do away with it because of this more grounded reality that DC/WB/CW seem to favor.
As for the Speed Force, even if it really is not clearly defined, it still is a very good element in the Flash lore. I think it was Mark Waid's creation and it is quite a good one. The speed force is the extra dimensional source of most speedsters power in the DCU. If there was no speed force all speedsters would have to ingest a lot to be able to move at superhuman speeds. Which might be disgusting to see. It keeps them from prematurely aging. So instead of expending a lot of energy naturally, they siphon energy off the speed force and age normally.
I think the new costume is said to be from the speed force, energy converted to matter. Pretty cool! So no more Flash ring and expanding costume. I don't know what your preference is but I think this new way his costume comes together is cooler.
All of this is sort of an explanation to the Flash's powers. It could be said that the accident triggered Barry's metagene so he could access the Speed Force. And Barry is the only one with a metagene in the JLA so I hope they keep that aspect. Also who knows how they'll explain it in the DC movie cinematic universe which likes to keep things "grounded in reality" **cough BS cough**
There are more things about the Flash that could be listed down which could possible make him as powerful as Superman. I think if you can speak to Grant Morrison or Mark Waid, they might have a better handle of Flash's potential than just "someone who runs fast"![]()
Flash is far from the only member of the JLA to have the metagene.
The only origin I was ever aware of was from the early 1990s TV series with John Wesley Shipp (great guy, by the way). It was pretty simple, having Barry as a scientist working with chemicals, who gets his powers after a huge lightning bolt strikes his laboratory.
Only it wasn't Barry who became the god, it was Wally.![]()
Too true. Unfortunately we're stuck with Barry. Hopefully they keep the 2 separate and not an amalgamation when he reaches the TV or Movies like they did with JLU.![]()

The amalgamation thing isn't exclusive to JLU. For example, Smallville amalgamated Barry and Bart into the Flash character on that show and named him Bart. Various movies have amalgamated Barry and Wally like Crisis on Two Earths and Doom. Even the live action TV show. There's nothing wrong with any of it - if anything, it makes the character stronger. I'd actually like to see them amalgamate a little of the other Flashes into the character they use in the Flash movie or JL. It's not like it'd be anything new.
And why is being "stuck with Barry" unfortunate? People can gripe about his "lack of personality" all that they want, but his core story is much better suited for a debut movie for the character seeing how both Wally and Bart's origins come from him. He established a meaningful relationship with the Rogues, founding the Justice League, and saved the multiverse. And he's a stand up guy. For those reasons, there's no reason to put Barry down.
a part of me would love to see them pick Wally for the movie...just to see Kevin Smith's reaction![]()
Listen I'm not here to knock Barry, but I started reading comics just as Crisis on Infinite Earths was just coming out. That 2 panels where Jay was telling Wally his speed was no longer killing him was the start of a new era for the Flash. As well for a lot of Flash fans. Even now a lot of fans are still eagerly awaiting for Wally's return.
