But it’ll be a mystery why this didn’t do well.

I honestly don't think it's just the Miller factor. I work with normies and none of them knew anything about the Hawaiian Horrors®, although some word had trickled that there had been a simple arrest.

I do agree, however, that nobody cared about their version of the character. That wasn't going to help the box office in the least.

At least the MCU shows are 6 episodes. I watched several seasons of the CW shows and when they're 26 episodes long (!) they really begin to feel like a waste of time.

Agreed, it was too much even when it was common place. The Boys has got the formula for this era down perfect & I believe South Park has followed. Rather than making 20+ episodes, with maybe 10 of them being mediocre, make 10 or so with your better/more clever ideas.

It's also easier to binge watch them on streaming services when it's a lower amount, which I do like also.

I haven't started The Boys yet myself , though I've heard good things about it.

Honestly, I cannot recommend it enough. I don't know what your personal tastes towards TV/film are, but I think The Boys is right up there as one of the most cleverly written shows I've ever seen.

I've enjoyed every season so far. Anthony Starr & Karl Urban are fantastic.

Today's teens don't care about Christian Bale either. I teach 11-18 year olds and The Dark Knight means nothing to them.

Oh sure, a number of them know of the film, but it gets a great big shoulder shrug. Pop culture moves on quickly.

Much more so than when I was that age. Films like Jaws, Raiders, and Star Wars were still pretty big deals circa 1997.

Yeah, completely unique and crazy. There are things in there that might put some off, but otherwise it’s a must-watch!

huh guess people really have heard of this Ezra person

what a waste of Keaton to put him in this

also the audience starts to really bail when they know something - in this case the Snyderverse - is on the way out like Dark Phoenix and the Fox X-Men universe. Look out Aquaman 2 (which will do better because the first movie was huge and Momoa > Ezra).

Disagree. Those that went to NWH, are that exact crowd. They grew up with the movies on television/streaming. It's the exact same age range.

Spider-Man: No Way Home belongs to Tom Holland. It is his movie and he did all the heavy lifting when it came to promoting. Audiences like him in the role and are happy to follow his adventures in the MCU.

Holland is Spider-Man for today's kids and teenagers. They went to see him (and Zendaya of course)!

Maguire/Garfield was simply a bonus that helped to drive repeat viewings and bring all ages together based on word of mouth. You cannot compare The Flash to NWH.

Now put Tobey Maguire in all the trailers and posters for Morbius and you have something a little closer to what we see this weekend.

That is not how it got to 2bil without China. It more then doubled FFH without China. NWH works because all three are there. They built the advertising around the idea that Tobey and Andrew would be there. That's why they used their villains the way they did.

Tom's my favorite Spider-Man, but he's not why NWH was the success it was. FFH even got that Endgame bump and still couldn't touch NWH.

According to BOT, 300m WW is no longer probable.

265-270m WW is likely, unless the bottom completely falls out and then we are talking sub 250m WW.

Highly, HIGHLY recommended. I like it as much, if not more than season 1-5 of GOTs.

But be warned, the Boys gets very gory, has lots of nudity and cursing, and some very weird and bizarre sex scenes.

Wow. It's gonna make less than some films make in a couple weeks.

I can relate to that experience.

And if I wanted to be slightly caricatural about current pop-culture, I'd say that :
- The over-30s are globally tired of this era of constant live-action adaptations and remakes, or more precisely of the way Hollywood produces them.
- 15-25 year-olds only swear by manga and japanime (that may not be the same in the US though but here in France, it's getting crazy).
- Kids under 15 aren't interested in movies because they can't concentrate on anything longer than a tiktok post anyway.

:o (?)

This. I was about to post the same thing.

Marvel Studios are what, like thirty movies? All within the space of a decade or so.
They've been an almost constant companion for kids born in the 2000s, and are definitely more popular to them than any other live-action comic book license. A third Tom Holland's Spiderman would probably have made good numbers anyway. Not as high, but still largely profitable.

On the opposite, The Flash has never had anything approaching a remotely significant popularity base. Regardless of Ezra Miller's antics or the very lukewarm reception this iteration of the character received in its previous appearances, I'd say there was actually an unpopularity to contend with.
So... Yeah.

Overhyping movies is going to create a backlash of your movie doesn't live up to the hype. You also risk losing the trust of the audience. People will be cautious about turning up for your future releases if they feel they are being mislead.

Is it already on in China?
I saw people say that people over there are more excited for this than for Aquaman back in the day.

As usual its crazy that 250 million box office for a Flash movie is considered a failure.
Studios are so detached from reality, they have to stop making movies that need close to a billion dollar box office.

Like i get this kind for a well built team up event movie, but what little people saw from flash in JL doesnt justify a movie that has probably with marketing cost 500+ Million to make.

I'd get that argument if it was 600 million.... but dude, 250 million is totally reasonable for a superhero film to be a failure. A Flash movie could quite literally never be made in such a way where 250 million would turn a profit lol

I’m pretty sure the WW gross includes China. This thing…just didnt hit with audiences plain and simple. Mainly due to its lead i firmly believe. Ezra is no Jason Mamoa. These superhero movies are just too expensive to “only” gross” 250 million.

WW includes China, and it didn't do well there either.

I think it's just a perfect storm of a lot of things going wrong for this one. I don't necessarily think you can chalk it up to just one reason.

It is wild to see. I honestly thought this would hit around 700 mil. Oof.

For sure, so much happening around this thing.
You got the reboot, you got the Ezra Miller stuff, the cameo discourse before the thing even came out.
The movie was in development during 3 different Regimes and so on.

In the end it is one reason that it fails...people dont show up.
But the why they dont show up, has a ton of reasons.

I maintain that if you have six consecutive flops in a row all set in the same universe, then that's the main problem.

But its not like these Projects ran visual or so in that universe, they all look and feel different from it.
Which makes me wonder if these projects would have turned out different if they would have had Snyders visuals and tone.

They had little choice i guess, there was no plan going forward until they hired Gunn.
So they hoped that a WW and Shazam Sequel would turn out well.
And who would have guessed that 2022 would be the year where Dwayne Johnsons Charisma cant sell a Superhero movie?
And TSS had a unfortunate timing to deal with.

But yeah, in the end they hung too long on a whole Universe that just didnt work.

Black Adam looked like an episode of JLU filmed in Snydervison and that didn't help at all. This universe was ****ed the second Man of Steel was changed from a stand alone franchise to the jumping off point for a cinematic universe.

Wasn't there a nine season long TV series not so long ago?
