The Flash The Flash Costume Thread

Those pics have made me like the suit even more.

If some people could realize that this is an adaptation of the Flash stories and not a literal translation, they might enjoy this TV show a whole lot more.

I wonder if better quality photos will silence haters.

It's so silly how some people have entrenched opinions based on bystander set pics.

It definitely silenced this hater.

I really hated this suit when I first saw it. Mainly because it just didn't have enough yellow/gold to me. However, the yellow/gold trim and accents show up really well in these pictures, and it has definitely changed my opinion on it. It, being an otherwise great design.

Not feeling the costume to be honest based on the pictures..

I think it's got too much going on in terms of design & materials used.

For example, I'm fine with the costume having wrist gauntlets, however what he has on this costume don't have a purpose nor do they flow with the rest of the design.. I don't think anyway.

It wasn't due to Flash's musculature that enabled him to run fast. Flash could have had the build of zach galifianakis and still be the fastest man alive. Most people envision a strong masculine physique when they think about a superhero where his power stems from his body and not energy or mind powers. If we went the way of reality and the way ones musculature would actually respond, Superman would look like this because he really wouldn't be able to build muscle with resistance training. Muscle is built due to extraordinary exertion not from cosmic powers.

That's why I prefer the distance build over a sprinter build, I prefer distance BECAUSE Flash's speed comes from powers, not his muscles, so it makes sense to me that his build would be more a result of his body going through the motion of running for long distances for extended amounts of time (since Flash is always on the move) rather than from pushing to propel himself as fast as possible with his muscles.

Say, am I the only one who started to notice, that the way they designed the mouth opening of the mask, kinda makes Flash look like Ultron?

But his mouth opening has always looked like it does on this costume.

The suit is sweet to me, grant it I am not hard to please. The red background behind the bolt has grown on me.

Looks like the second group of set pics show more flattering poses from flattering angles, unless the suit has just been growing on me.

Either way, I am starting to like the suit a little more. The only thing that kinda bugs me is the leather pants (I do like the leather on the jacket for some reason), and the lackluster belt.

Yeah, they should've done more fabric with leather accents IMO.

More like he never looked like that, until now. And it's not supposed to be a complaint. Just a funny observation.

Nope. The opening below his mask has been the same basic shape. There's no similarity other than helmet openings are basically like that.

You might as well say Batman and Captain America looks like Ultron too. Not really the case. Ultron's look is much newer anyway so why is he being compared against.

The suit is growing on me the more I see it, except for the belt and the pants, they should be tighter or a different material than leather. But I really like the top half.

I think most the people worshipping it either don't watch a lot of movies, are unfamiliar with the DC animated adaptations and the GA of the comics, or are so desperate for a comic based show, a DC show, that they'll accept anything and are projecting how awesome they wish it were onto it rather than seeing it for what it actually is.

can't get any more pretentious than this.

Yeah...I just don't get the appeal of the show.
Which is perfectly fine....as long as all you do is say - I don't get it - it's when you go beyond that and start calling people names or acting condescending towards the people who don't share your opinion that I come in and say something.

If you say so.
Why couldn't you have just let that comment pass?

I'm here too. The stirring hyperbole against the suit has made me like it even more than that.

I think the issue is some people don't believe that there is anything to adapt to, that literal translation is not only completely possible, even easy, but always ideal, even moreso when it is possible. They see TV and films based on comic books as extension of those comic books as opposed to new things based on those comic books.

The suit isn't too different from the comics in the first place. You show it to the average Joe and they'll tell you it's the Flash. Honestly, it's more faithful to the comics than a lot of movie suits.

Plus, we mostly got set photos. It isn't the first time we've had set photos of suits the fanbase deemed only to praise them once official stills/footage came out (most recent example is TASM). And the first (and only) official photos that we have looked great. A lot of people here even praised it for "looking cinematic" (like MOS).

I approve this post. I think that if people realized that all of the comic book movies and TV shows that are coming out now and have come out before are adaptations and not literal translations, they'd enjoy them more or at least be less outraged.

Yeah, when you get the notion of "that costume isn't completely identical to that invention of a comic book I'm so used to" out of your head, you'll see that it's FAAAAR from a "bad" costume.

The cowl is one of the few nearly perfect things about the suit. I don't get the complaints about it.

The way the cowl is cut is almost (if not) identical to how it is in the comics. It's great.

This.

But the funny thing is that it's design IS the comics design; just executed differently.

All the key elements are there, they just repackaged it and served it in a different way.

I think the comparisons to the ASM1 suit are apt. It has that same feel that suit had. It looks like something a fanboy or nerd (probably with a limited budget and/or limited fashion sense) designed. And what looked great in his head was executed cheaply; leaving the final result looking a tad amatuer and goofy. However, that gives this suit charm. It's imperfections. And I think that really highlights the character himself, whom this suit really fits.

This is the suit I can see this version of Barry Allen making. Especially when he's just starting out. He's awkward, goofy, and (as a superhero/comics fan) is self aware. And I think this suit is very representative of those traits. But, in a very good way.

And I think that as we see this character mature and grow, so will his suit. But for now, this is perfect.

When Barry becomes the hero, and the Barry, that we know he'll be and is, his suit will follow.

But even if the suit doesn't change, it's still a solid Flash suit. By far the best we've gotten in live action.
