Congratulations. That's the stupidest statement I've heard all month.

Well, he did... unless in the graphic novel:
Veidt frames Manhattan... oh wait, he didn't. That's screwing with it.
We just haven't seen if it 'worked' yet.

I would say year, but... you know... Sarah Palin.

Yeah. She filled a thread with the stupid statements... there's no way that comment could match.

True. But did he... change the film to be set in contemporary times? Did he replace Nixon with Clinton or Bush? Did he show a complete disregard for Moore's writing and Gibbons' artwork?

No, on all counts. Tweaking the ending a bit is pretty small beans compared to what would have been done if the film was in Fox's hands, or if they had used the Sam Hamm script. And honestly, this change is something that I can live with, whereas the squid felt pretty useless to Watchmen's overall story.

Notice how it is just 'screwed' with and not 'completely totally f**ked' over Watchmen.

Agreed. Not saying he did bad... but in my mind, changing it from [BLACKOUT]aliens to Manhattan[/BLACKOUT] is a bad change and screws it over.

or if they had used the Sam Hamm script.

Agreed again. That would have been horrible.

And honestly, this change is something that I can live with, whereas the squid felt pretty useless to Watchmen's overall story.

But it was still an alien... and now it is Manhattan. A clear American attack dog that is supposed to make the same sort of ending as the squid?
I would be fine if it was another clear ALIEN force. And again, we haven't seen if it was good screwing with or bad.

I guess I can see where you're coming from, I just honestly dont think it's a huge deal. It's like changing a murder weapon from a gun to a knife, IMO.

IMO, it is more like changing the murder weapon from a gun to an attack dog that is owned by a certain person.

Fixed.

Manhattan quits working for the US government and takes off for Mars before he supposedly wastes the world's major cities.

Not really.

Manhattan quits working for the US government and takes off for Mars before he supposedly wastes the world's major cities.

So? That changes the history that Manhattan has as an attack dog for the US that did they will whenever against whoever?

There's a reason that a dog's owner is charged when it attacks someone... as in it wouldn't have been an attack dog without the owner.

What happens when you no longer own a dog and it attacks somebody?

This isn't like he leaves and then comes back decades later, he stops working for the US for about a day then 'comes back and attacks'... and also like I said, they were the ones that suddenly disowned him, which in the comic happens before the event...

So that's two HUGE things that would cause the world to turn on America... and why that change is ******ed.

Yeah but wasn't it known worldwide(it would have been a major issue in the news all over)when America basically gives him the boot/disowns him due to the lies about him giving people cancer?

If the other countries of the world had even half a brain they would realize that when he does 'his' attack it's not sanctioned by the USA. He would basically be a rogue to everyone.

Yeah the foreigners could still blame us because Dr. Manhattan was American but that would be ignorant since America gets hit in her biggest/most famous city too.

Gilpesh you should be more appreciative towards Watchmen and Snyder. So should other fanboys that are complaining about the changes.

Think about what Snyder had to fight for that is still in the film in which was an uphill battle. Think about all the other directors that changed much more things than that. That I think not everyone else would of done. I think this could be the closest thing to what we can get to Watchmen.

If someone says they want a new version or if they do another one in 20 years they shouldn't. Like LOTR, which shouldn't happen. Nothing will change in the business now or then in how you adapt to film. How some things are compromized. It'll be the same film.

And if the spirit of it is still there, that's all that will matter.

I agree Doctor Jones, not to mention I really can't wait for Snyder's fully uncut version when it comes to DVD/Blu Ray. Black freighter AND the journal scenes filmed...that's going to be a very long but epic film.

Pot? Kettle? Black? Or did you just mean the Watchmen MOVIE?

Not really. If they just changed it back to ALIEN attack... not necessarily the squid. That would be the closest thing to Watchmen in a movie.

Seeing as I've used too many facepalms this year... I'll skip that and just go to my sarcastic remark:

Yes, Batman 89 and The Dark Knight. Same film.

And if the spirit of it is still there, that's all that will matter.

But this random change affects the spirit... this world is supposed to be SO CLOSE to nuclear holocaust that the only thing that snapped them out of it was a F**KING ALIEN showing up and killing almost all of New York... I doubt that Russia and their allies wouldn't jump at the chance and still blame America for Manhattan even if Manhattan attacks America.

To go back to the attack dog metaphor... just cause the owner also gets bit after it mauls someone else... does that mean the owner is blameless?

Here is a short update on the wolverine movie.

"**** the fans. We already have their money." Tom Rothman.

I was never that excited about this film when it was first announced two years ago. My opinion changed a little after seeing the comiccon trailer in July but, the new trailer released in December didn't impress me. If the rumored budget is only 100 million then I guess that explains why the recent trailer looks so weak in comparison to Watchmen, Star Trek, and Terminator.

Is Gavin Hood ashamed to promote this film? He and Stephen Sommers are the only directors of the 2009 potential blockbuster films who aren't promoting their movies. Zack Synder, J.J. Abrahms, McG, David Yates, and Micheal Bay have taken time to talk to the press about their projects. Even James Cameron has been interviewed about Avatar.

seriously... what the **** is this guy doing in charge of a movie company... '**** the fans, we already have their money'????? My God. My. God.

whats the best legal option we fans have that can get this turd away from Fox?

I'm sure that kind of attitude is more common than you think. Everyone knows that a built-in fanbase means guaranteed earnings. But Rothman feels strongly enough (or is stupid enough :funny: ) to say it out loud, especially in front of a reporter.

I don't think there's any legal option, unless it's discovered he's been embezzling millions of dollars. Or something. Best way is for Fox to start really losing money, but obviously they haven't done so yet. Or maybe they'd be stupid enough to keep him on board nonetheless. You never know. :lmao:

It's always entertaining to have someone to poke fun at. Too bad for the X-men fans out there though...

Did he seriously say those exact words?

I meant the Watchmen film.

And this is an ADAPTION of one piece of literature. There's only one. No ***** B89 and TDK are two different films. They draw from different sources for God's sake you didn't think I knew that? As long as that theme is retained in the story then it's fine. Squid or no squid. Do you seriously think that an alien is the only way to unite the world? There's other ways, and this explosion is a good example. Millions still die, they unite, what's problem? I understand how it's an outside creature, but I even thought the squid was a little silly in the GN. All of a sudden this squid pops out? Or even aliens? People will be like WTF? And be drawn out of the film.

If complaining about the removal of the squid stops you form liking the film than that's a sad case for you.

But why don't you hold out your judgement first and actually see the film? Instead of passing judgement beforehand? Why don't you give it a chance first? Go in with an open mind, though people complaining at this stage proabaly won't.
