The Gifted The Gifted General Discussion

Natalie Alyn Lind hinting at an episode NINE action setpiece for Lauren.
Lind proudly notes that the cast does all of their own stunts on the show. And fans should look out for her two months of parkour training ("The coolest thing," she enthuses) to be put to work in Episode 9.
She's absolutely going to be [BLACKOUT]walking and/or jumping on her shields, Invisible Woman and Gwen Tennyson style.[/BLACKOUT] Calling it now. She also gives another [BLACKOUT]Fenris related[/BLACKOUT] hint (most likely) with:
As for what's ultimately in store for Lauren at the end of the season, Lind is tightlipped but for one enticing hint."My character is not the person you thought she was," the actor says ominously. Brightening instantly, she adds with a laugh, "So, whatever that means to you."

Interesting stuff, looking forward to seeing how it all turns out.

Amy Acker was asked who her favorite mutant on the show was and then said she couldn't answer that because it would be a spoiler. ;)

So either one of the normals is revealed as a mutie or one of the X-men show, I suppose?

I'm hoping they bring someone else in from the comics that we haven't seen before. On the X-Men appearing, Matt Nix said this though:
“When we say the X-Men and the Brotherhood are gone, we mean it. They're not 'fake gone.' It's a huge question we're exploring in the show. Does that mean you would never see anyone associated with the X-Men or the Brotherhood? Possibly you would, but you're not going to see those marquee characters because in this universe those characters are gone and that's part of our story,” he said.
The way he says gone almost makes it seems like the X-Men just up and left and jumped back to the timeline of movies. :woot:

Edit:
Emma Dumont: "Who is your favorite mutant, besides Polaris? On the show... I dunno, I really like... hmm... it's a character we haven't met yet."
So it seems like she agrees with Amy. ;)

Emma also confirmed that the season will run for 13 episodes, rather than 10. \o/

The gifted has a concept that would fit perfectly with pre-Dofp.
surprised Fox, Matt and producers didnt just confirm it, it would get more fans excited for the show imo, and would be directly connected to the movie universe, while having freedom at the same time, since it will be a long journey to actually get to Dofp years. A lot of room to grown and exploring plenty of characters, deaths and concepts.

Because it fits so well I take the approach with this (and all my fanon ideas) that the events in all of the x-men films/shows have a probability happening in some fashion in each of the different timelines so for me the gifted can be used to get an idea of some of the events of the OT timeline by figuring out what would happen after divorcing the elements that conflict with the OT timeline (namely the struckers and the influence they and their family exert on the plot). For Example Warpath and Sunspot are put ino the roles of Thunderbird and Eclipse as they fill almost identical role and instead of Dreamer being forced to incept Polaris because of the Struckers she is allowed to develop her powers naturally and whatever drama comes of Dreamer won't happen.

seems like x-men will never appear on the gifted and based on newspaper
article it's fair to say the gifted is set in seperate timeline from both ones in films.

No is saying otherwise, I just think apart from a few elements it would fit nicely into the original timeline so why not use some of the events of the show to make up a history for the OT until we are given an official one.

Of course none of the X-Men and the Brotherhood will appear in this. Its a side project for Fox.

I think the real issue with this show is how they're trying to sell us on "Sentinel Services" posing any threat... any threat at all... to the mutant side in an open fight.

Last episode? Polaris could've murdered every single human on the scene. No sweat. Andy could've buried them in an avalanche.

That's true, but maybe this is just the local arm of Sentinal Services and as a result theyare fairly low on the food chain. So create enough noise and maybe they attract the attention of the big guns, I'd really love to see some of the human shaped sentinals, start with some large human sized ones so that it is cheaper to do them by making them a mix of suits on big stuntmen and cgi, then eventually get to the full size ones.

Also after this recent humiliation by the Mutant Underground, the lead agent will definitely reach out to that scientist (Ahab?) and probably get a threat level boost from his resources.

Yeah, well, it's just, you know...

See, this is why I call superhero shows "fantasy" rather than "science fiction". They use "powers" as a storytelling crutch, rather than actually honestly exploring them. They all only have "the power to do what's needed for the story."

Again, all the mutie-hating punks in this episode. Dead if only Polaris wanted to. And it's not like she doesn't want to. Those people from Sentinel should be ****ting their pants even thinking about taking them on. But oh no, the "Mutant Underground" is super-scared of them. Because they're people. With guns.

This article actually makes me think, for the first time, that there would be some potential in tying this to the original timeline. Though I'm not sure if that's possible. Blink supposedly is younger than her DOFP counterpart, the situation in DOFP seemed to be worse already, and the incident doesn't sound like the attack on the monastery in DOFP either. If anything this would be set pre-DOFP, but then it wouldn't make sense for the X-Men to be gone yet. I think that everything we learn about this incident will eventually decide how Gifted fits in. On the other hand, I still want this to be pretty much standalone because of the freedom it would give. Either way, Rachel Summers might be a good fit for the show. I don't really see the movies bringing her in.

Well, they could develop this like in some issues of Uncanny: that mutantkind is endangered exactly because they are unjustly feared and they, to not escalate things further, do not fight back full force, actually unwittingly prolonging the issue.
At least Magneto would put it this way, what with half measures...

I already posted this in the Eclipse thread but it is a relatively low traffic one.
Maybe any eventual response could be taken there.

I'm unhappy they went with the cartel storyline.
I'm not saying they should never make a minority have a criminal past, those are stories still worthy of telling in the right hands.
Just that here it seemed really stereotypical, and for good measures they made him pray with a rosary, I think.
Can't have people miss he's "brown and illegal", can't we?
I get all that X-Men as minorities but not every and each one of them has to have all the trappings of a hard life.
This goes for most television yet, I know.

i think rachel is possiblty for show especilly with hounds on show but i don't think gifted in timeline with original films

the big problem is newspaper article from 1963 mentioning mutants when in original trilogy was relative recent to public.though i guess possable wiggle room is fitting gifted with origins and original trilogy and say mutants were known for years but things went into full hystery in early 2000's

but to have rachel on show has to mean they ignore her parentage or set show in whole different timeline where cyclops and jean had child.with x-men suspose to be gone it's hard to do the rachel comes from possable future

didnt think about it that way, but yeah, you made a solid point, and I have to agree. They are playing a bit with stereotypes. They should really explore more unique and out-of-the-norm characters, with less predictable pasts and subplots.

I mean.... Eclipse had that, Polaris is becoming a bit the female Magneto (with her attitude)..... they should try more new things. What about Sage? we dont know anything about her yet, so there they have new stuff to explore.

I think you are just ignoring the metaphor.

We have also seen only a few of their toys. I get the feeling that deploying Sentinels are not used all the time. That Jace went off the book using them against the Struckers. I mean, even in the episode, Lorna explained that that there were limits to her powers.

And yes, Lorna could handle that team. But what about a bigger one? Double the size? Triple? That's the kind of threat Sentinel Services poses, more than anything.

But he's clean now! And then there's the fact the cartel is being run by a powerful female, Carmen. Also, that's what's popular nowadays, you really can't blame them for riding the wave a bit.

Best live action as in very live action promotion of The Gifted on the World Series tonight. Guess who showed up at the World Series?

Video below.

They are raising their game and pulling out the stops to get things going in the right direction momentum wise for ep 5 and I have been responding to people on twitter tonight who just heard about it often via the World Series that yes they should watch it and why.

This is the chance to change the momentum and of course getting another season and it won’t take much.

Just started this today and im currently on episode 3,Honestly if they stick to their guns with the XMen being gone and/or this being an alternate timeline I'd really like to see a surviving A-lister show up and help somehow.

Particularly someone like Rogue(who the movies never did that well and also likely won't be in another anytime soon.)
