The Gifted The Gifted General Discussion

I don't know man I think I'd rather take Ps2 graphics than have them showcase these short action sequences that look restricted because its under the TV budget.

And since this is getting a 13 episode order for the 1st season, I feel like it should havea shorter order, as you could squeeze the first five episodes in a 2 hour episode and would have improved the pacing much more.

I have to say that this show has really surprised me. Wasn’t expecting much but this show is pretty good. I hope it gets renewed.

this show is to enjoy the characters and their dynamics, not to have a fast paced project like Ratner's X3 lol.

if after 5 episodes, viewers/fans cant connect with the characters, then nothing will change that

The CW shows actually pull off alot when it comes to effects

Although not always super high quality but they get the job done.

Hmm.. After 5 episodes, I don't know what's so groundbreaking about these characters. So far, its been little action here there and talking, maybe a little flashback and repeat. I haven't really felt their journey compare that to X1 when Rogue and Wolverine met each other and how they met the X-Men afterwards and that was in a span of less than 2 hours. I don't know Blink's backstory whatsoever. Thunderbird is cool I guess, the actor is likable but he has no depth so far. Polaris has been stealing the show though for me I guess since Polaris is one of my favorite characters from the comics, that is just an expected reaction for me but other than being Eclipse's girlfriend, being abducted and one of the faces of the mutant underground group, I don't really know her as a person. Also her power displays could have been longer, I just watch the action scenes and can't help but notice how tamed they are compare to the X-Men movies.

Given that this show showcases X-Men characters, they have an opportunity to I guess make this as a second coming of Heroes season 1 since that show was compared to the X-Men a lot. And unlike the movies, they have more time to develop key X-Men characters. But this isn't even close to the first season of Heroes or the good X-Men films.

And they can do something for the viewers who aren't connecting to this show yet. Improve the writing and production values.

Cast: Stephen Moyer as Reed Strucker; Amy Acker as Caitlin Strucker; Sean Teale as Eclipse/Marcos Diaz; Jamie Chung as Blink/Clarice Fong aka Clarice Ferguson; Coby Bell as Jace Turner; Emma Dumont as Polaris/Lorna Dane; Blair Redford as Thunderbird/John Proudstar; Natalie Alyn Lind as Lauren Strucker; Percy Hynes White as Andy Strucker

It has good moments for the family, particularly with what human mom (Caitlin) has to do to keep her kids in one piece. We've never seen a human character pull all those stops in the X-Men universe before, which is why right now she's my fave, along with Agent Turner who, on the other hand, already lost his kids and is out for revenge.

Now, I don't feel so vested in most of the other characters for where they've been. But when you mention Heroes, I think Micah and his mom, the Japanese duo, the brothers in NY, Isaac the artist, and the cheerleader's family and how they started out in different parts of the world. They told their stories separately and we grew fond of them separately. Eventually they came together in the end of Season 1 and we couldn't help but feel chills over it. It's the same thing with Game of Thrones, except they took seven seasons to do it. But the Gifted is a different kind of show. To me, it gives us context and maybe continuity to the Logan timeline. And I wouldn't be surprised if we had a familiar X-Men team member cameo. It would really tie the season together nicely.

I'm enjoying watching Blink and Polaris. A couple more recognisable names would boost the show now I think.

How about Sage? She seems like an extra here which IMO is such a waste.

Sage doesn't even seem like herself. A girl with dark hair that spouts statistics isn't the same. :(

They turned her into a regular girl. Sage in the comics has presence, a Claremont creation and believe it or not, has been a X-Woman longer than Thunderbird and blink. And in this show, she's an extra only billed when the end credits role. What a fail, Matt Nix.

Came across a clip of Dumont saying she loves Ricochet Rita. Not sure from the clip if it's about the show or the comics (guess the latter), but either way, she does know her stuff!

Makes you wonder what the point is in having named mutants like that if you arent even going to have them be themseves. :(

To me, this show has a lot of misses.

Like its nice to see Blink again but I can't stand Jamie Chung in the role, such a downgrade from Fan Bingbing and the pink skin is gone and now she spents most of her time whining about the thoughts that Dreamer planted. Where was she in the hide the truck mission?

Then Dreamer, I really like the actress. She stands out from the cast so I hope they upgrade her to a series regular. But Dreamer, she exists in the comics but girl, she's nowhere in the comics I've read. She could have played a c list character instead of a g list. And also, they made the character bad by Blink's attitude towards her. See comments from YouTube. People want her out!

Its nice to see Thunderbird get the leader role especially he was killed so early in the comics and here, they are utilizing him and giving these little action moments but the character has no personality flaw which makes him boring and 1 dimensional.

Then Polaris, they turned her into Magneto 2.0 and I would see her energy blasts, instead of just controlling the metals around her surroundings.

Shatter hasn't done anything so that nice make up is wasted when he's not even part of the action.

Then going back to Sage, five episodes in and they have yet to showcase HeR mutant powers. I read Uncanny and xtreme and its just really disappointing to see her like this. Like they got a mini X-Men here with Blink, Polaris, Thunderbird and Sage and I feel like this should have been the mutant squad getting in the action but no, more role should be given to the Strucker kids.

I don't have anything positive to say about the made up for TV characters. Though Wes is really cute. Eclipse, I keep forgetting about him. I just have zero investment and interest to a character that didn't exist in the comics and this is supposed to be a X-Men show.

I'm slowly catching up with the show, and I'm enjoying it, I can't help but feel there might be too much and the show can't decide if it's the family on the run, or the Mutant Resistance. Those two items just haven't blended seamlessly, with part of it being such a large cast.

I don't mind the made for tv characters, buts its a bit of a disservice for any existing comic characters to be basically a glorified extra, as it has been mentioned.

You can't have Polaris without Havok. I'm thinking Pulse will probably take his place, who knows on this. Havok should be on the show, they barely use him in the movies.

Like I said, they should have focused on the mutants from the comics.

I find it insulting that in the DVd cover and the main poster, the made up for TV characters are plastered but not the characters based from the comics.

Huh?
Why Pulse?
Eclipse is already a Havok proxy.

True, but he was in three of the movies, which ironically would make him the biggest character on the show by far. :woot:

You take this a bit too much personally. I'm saying for your sake. :woot:

since show not in counity of films and havok died in films they could have havok.problem is for those whow ant it does nix want to use him.because havok could have had havok from beigning and chooce not to.

Ive known Sage, Polaris, Thunderbird and Blink for years. And ideally, for a X-Men show the lead characters should be the X-Men from the comics, not characters that didn't even exist in the comics.
