The Greatest Criminal Mind of Our Time: Nicholas Hoult IS Lex Luthor

While I do like DB, he is far too big for what I'd want as Lex.
Now, I could see him as mongul or Darkseid tho.
I pictured Darkseid as more calculative and cunning alongside of being a force.

Ok, don't laugh: After seeing James Gunn's comment the other day about how he would like to work with the Guardians cast at his 'other job', it gave me an idea. Dave Bautista as Lex. Not only does he have the acting chops to play the highly intelligent cerebral Lex but he also has the size to make Lex even more of an egomaniac.

He could be both the smartest & strongest guy around. A shining example of the future... until Superman shows up. He spent all his life to reach this point and then he is, in a flash, no longer the most important man in Metropolis. He sees this alien that is so powerful just because as a threat to humanity (and more importantly himself). I think Bautista could definitely sell it.

Plus, he has the look

I think having a super jacked Lex is a valid direction for sure. It’s been written that way before, and Bautista-sized is just updating it for ridiculous 2023 standards.

And Id get a kick out of him kinda doing a riff on Dwayne Johnson. You know, a symbol of hard work, achieving physical perfection, building up a successful brand and persona, loved by everyone, posting cheesy inspirational content for billions of followers, but also kinda fake with a fragile-ego underneath.

You could also do all this with Brainiac instead. Bautista’s Brainiac serving as the ridiculous and monstrous end conclusion of what Lex aims to be.

I guess I don’t understand, because my understanding of Braniac is that he is terrifying in that he is a cold and calculating presence that is virtually unstoppable. He is the villain to all in the universe the way that the person in the white lab coat and the clipboard is the villain to all of the lab rats. I don’t see Braniac as having a fragile ego.

I would say no to Weaving simply because (if I remember correctly) he really hated the prosthetics that came with playing the Red Skull and said he hoped he’d never have to play the role again. Brainiac would presumably require a lot of prosthetics as well, so best to cast an actor who isn’t against it. Especially if the plan is to have Brainy appear in multiple films.

Well I was thinking more Lex for that bit, but even for Brainiac, it could be that his present day emotionless robotic self is not same as the fallible man he once was as Vril Dox.

There are rumors in some sites that New DCEU Luthor will be Older than Superman i prefer Luthor to be in Superman Age but for now i dont believe in any rumors

If they go with CEO Luthor (which is what I hope) he would presumably be at least a few years older than Clark. I’m fine with that. What I don’t want is a Luthor old enough to be his father. Conversely, I don’t want an Eisenlex type who looks like a college kid either.

I was thinking about why I don't like a young Lex and I think its because when everyone is around the same age it feels more like a young adult "teen drama' rather than a mixed bag of ages.

I sincerely don't believe any rumor circulating right now, like basically none of them leading up to this week have panned out.

if it's gonna be a gunn alum, bradley cooper makes the most sense imo. hackman, spacey and eisenberg were all oscar nominated/winning actors, so if gunn wants to continue that tradition then getting a guy with 9 nominations would make sense. licorice pizza already showed he can be intimidating and kill it (granted that was a lot more comedic), so I think he could absolutely do great here.
also, he looks a lot like the lee bermejo lex

I'd be ok with him but I'd love Matthew McConaughey as Lex.

Alexander Joseph Luthor

I really hope Lex is treated more seriously with a bit more introspection on his intelligence and savy business experience similar to Superman: TAS and Smallville. I don't know wtf Synder wad think regarding Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in BVS but he was certainly not the right candidate for Superman's archenemy.

Part of the genius of the redesign of Lex from mad scientists to tycoon business mogul of Metropolis is the misconception he's actually a good benefactor to the city. But in reality he's the architect of many of the crimes around the city and only a handful of people suspected the truth but without proof he's able to continue his Ramage of the city, while Superman watches not able to actually defeat him hand to hand yet.

I loved that run! And Bradley intrigues me in a way that the same old actors who get suggested for every villain role doesn’t

Yeah, Cooper could make an interesting Lex. And it doesn’t hurt that he already has a working relationship with Gunn. The good thing about it too is that he’s not immediately associated with Marvel because it’s a voice role (and he doesn’t even sound like himself when doing Rocket).

I'd be down with Cooper, but my #1 choice is McConaughey.
There are several actors I'd be fine with as Lex.
Pitt
Cooper
Fassbender
Elba
Bana
Urban. ( he'd kill it )

Urban would be a great Batman for the brave and the bold I reckon

He's one of those actors that would own any role you put him in.
He's one of my favorites. Very underrated.

What if we just go with Ralph Fiennes? Maybe not the more out-of-the-box, but at 60 I think could still nail the role:

Here’s a left field choice. Wouldn’t it be fun if John Travolta got a Brendan Fraser type renaissance

Well Brendan's not part of a cult that protected a rapist, so...

Fiennes is awesome but idk about Superman fighting someone who will be like 75 by the time the franchise is chugging along
