Welling refused to put on the suit is why.
Oh, I am well(ing) aware but it's still what happened in the show and I think it's what brought it down a whole lot. If they had stopped having him face all of his rogues while as Clark and actually put Superman in much earlier and moving into when he was working at the Daily Planet we might have seen the show go for longer... rather than always watching "The Blur and Lois"Welling refused to put on the suit is why.
Not a knock on welling, but he didn't want to be typecast as Superman. I can think of much much worse things.
Where is he now?
If can't remember if this is a true story, but when Nicholas Cage was cast as Superman, I understood that he originally read for the role of Lex. Maybe true, maybe not, if anyone else remembers the story.
There is a certain texture to Cage being a very good Lex, he can play creepy charming as well as crazy evil. Don't know if he would do it, but I think he could be great.
For Lex? That bonkers, dude is prime for a superhero of some kind.Best suggestion I've heard so far has been Alan Ritchson.

Alan Ritchson lol
Honestly thought that was a typo.
For Superman you mean?
You went so far out of the box you ended up in a different box for a different film! :PLuthor being the human representation of Superman. Physically and intellectually the same. Except one is an all powerful god using his abilities for the betterment of mankind. Hence the jealously of the other.
Ritchson could play that.
It's also a way of mixing it up onscreen.
One needs to look beyond an actor automatically looking the part to determine them perfect. That logic would have in fact prevented Christopher Reeve from getting cast back in '77. Everyone seems to have forgotten this.
Respectfully sometimes you guys need to think outside the box.

Problem is to do outside the box casting like that you need, most of all, a good actor.Luthor being the human representation of Superman. Physically and intellectually the same. Except one is an all powerful god using his abilities for the betterment of mankind. Hence the jealously of the other.

Yeh I'm for him also. I'm unsure of his age but he has very mature look to him and he can be quite menacing.Im really on the Jesse Plemons train, he’s not the tall shredded Lex some people want but his look exudes power, he’s so classically villain looking he’d be a striking Lex.
