The Greatest Criminal Mind of Our Time: Nicholas Hoult IS Lex Luthor

I’ve realized this unfortunate trend of bearded Lex Luthors is directly tied to the fact that they keep casting Lex Luthors with weak jawlines and so use beards to compensate, so I hereby officially request a Lex Luthor with a strong jawline for this movie. :o

I wouldn't mind a Lex with a decent jawline, but a chiseled Lex isn't as required for me as a chiseled Superman is. For Clark, I feel the actor's physical appearance and his acting skills are equally important. For Lex, the actor's acting skills are far more important than his physical appearance to me. I'm good with Lex's look as long as I feel like a mere insect when I look into his eyes.

Why not both?

I'm not overtly picky on actors for Lex, but like I said on the other thread, my only request for this Lex is that he's not a nepo baby like Eisenberg.

Self-made rags to riches Lex makes the most sense for the character, he thinks he has "earned" people's admiration with his hard work, while Superman has done nothing of such.

You want Luthor to become Daniel Plainview?

Ehh not exactly, that's already Lex's origin in the comics and the DCAU, it's other adaptations like Smallville and the DCEU that are dead set on making him a heir for some reason.

I'd be over the moon with Isaac.

@Kane52630 @flickchick85

Yeah, when watching that flick I actually thought: Isaac, damn it. That would be an interesting Lex.

When it comes to the Skarsgård brothers, I think Alexander remains me a slight more of his dad (who could've been a good Lex as well in the right age/era) when he was younger in all his domestic films I grew up with over here. Young Stellan still always had more range than any of his sons, but Alexander would feel like a better suited Lex than Bill. If that makes any sense lol.

Now that we have a Julliard graduate playing Supes and an Emmy award winner playing Lois, that really raises the bar for who should play Lex and they need an actor who can portray ALL the facets of the infinitely complex Lex Luthor.

It's probably a long shot, but I hope against hope that Dan Stevens ends up as Lex. I can't find any clips that show him acting Lex-like, but these 2 definitely show his versatility and range. He's my top choice right now.

Slimy, corporate, politcal

Frightening, Intimidating

As much as I love Dan Stevens, not sure I can see him as Luthor (but not apposed to it either). But I definitely would love to see him in some great intimidating villian role. He's excellent in e.g. The Guest and Legion.

A common thing all 3 actors mentioned so far have is that they're all really tall, which I don't think it's a coincidence since Gunn does like to cast around height quite a bit and I have to imagine he doesn't want Lex to look tiny next to Clark. So that's kinda making me consider which other tall actors could be on the shortlist (if there are any more at all, it came down to 3 with Lois and Clark after all)

Every time someone mentions Dan Stevens, a @Kane52630 gets his wings. :o

Gunn is kinda weird and *****y about height so you're probably onto something there.

Don't think it's a coincidence that all the Supermen in his shortlist were over 6'2 either. And the first tweet he liked in regards to Corenswet casting was one over him being 6'4 lmao

Somewhere Anson Mount (who was totally in the right in their twitter slapfest, imo, even though I get the logistics of what Gunn was saying) hurls another knife into the photo of James Gunn on his wall.

Bosch and Michael Cudlitz have a fine jawline, though, so it sounds like you’ve just got a beef with Jon Cryer. :o

-Matthew Goode. (6'1)
-Bradley Cooper. (6'1)
-Oliver Jackson Cohen (6'3)
-Lee Pace (6'4) But he better ****ing not since he'd be better used as Batman...
-
Richard Armitage (6'2)

Another thing that I'm considering is the fact that the shortlist so far kinda signals to me he's going for a Luthor that's at least somewhat offputting, maybe even slightly annoying. I could see Matthew Goode and Oliver Jackson Cohen playing that.

Assuming we're getting the vain, smug d-bag Grant Morrison Lex. Probably more comedic than people want, tbh, but Gunn would nail that version so I don't mind.

The fact that Rosenbaum is his favorite Lex might signal something too? Maybe he wants something closer to that, than he does the Clancy Brown take that I think pretty much the entire fandom thinks of when thinking Luthor.
