The Greatest Criminal Mind of Our Time: Nicholas Hoult IS Lex Luthor

I think we're being a bit too literal with the age thing again.

No one except Jeff Sneider said the early 20s thing though to be fair. THR said something like that about Superman being 25 but Gunn immediately shut it down. DCEUleaks I remember said they were looking at actors in their early 30s too.

@SwordOfMorning and @Boom were talking about him in the Bruce Wayne thread, but what about Benjamin Walker as Luthor?

He's 6'3 so he matches the height of everyone else in the shortlist we have (Hoult and the Skarsgards), he just turned 40 so he's juuuust outside the age range, he has a strong enough presence to imagine him being taken as seriously as Luthor should as an intimidating figure overall, and well, he seems to be good at playing a sociopath by his American Psycho Broadway performance.

If shaved bald I can imagine him looking identical to comic Luthor too, which I imagine will play well with Gunn and matches the rest of the cast.

It’s funny that people are talking height with lex because I kind of love him with little man syndrome

Me too but when the descriptions we've seen for Lex so far are "looks like he can go toe to toe with Superman, imposing" and when the 3 actors shortlisted so far just happen to be around 6'3-6'5 there is reason to think that height might be something Gunn is really taking into consideration and he really wants the visual of Lex head to head with Superman for some reason.

I have no control over it, but I'd prefer Lex be a well known actor who's bald, imposing, charismatic, and in his late 30's early 40's.

I don't have problems with any of that. But as with Batman, there are hardly any well-known actors around that I'd be especially enthusiastic about in the role. Certainly none of the names I regularly see thrown about in connection, at least. From my vantage point, Hoult is an intriguing prospect, but that's about it. And I have my doubts that he's a contender anyway.

Didn't he already confirm he offered it to Cooper but he had to turn it down due to scheduling with the Stephen Spielberg movie?

Nah no one confirmed it. Kroll said he offered the role to a GoTG star but then we never got confirmation on who it was. My Time To Shine said it was Cooper but she's a known embarrassing liar.

Man we have had a bunch of sh***y Lex Luthor’s.

Michael Rosenbaum (Goated, but still could be improved)

decent:
John Shea (pretty solid for a 90s Lex tbh)
Gene Hackman (too goofy but very classic)
Kevin Spacey (hard to watch any of his work anymore but he did a decent job with what he was given. **** that stupid movie though)

the rest are all pretty terrible:
Jon Cryer (not remotely threatening and I hate the beard)
Michael Cudlitz (Too threatening, felt more like Kingpin…and I hate the beard)
Jesse Eisenberg (not remotely threatening, feels more like Riddler)
Titus Welliver (what even was this version? Nothing about this felt like Lex, and Titus kind of sucked which is not like him)
Sherman Howard (too goofy)
Scott James Wells (way too goofy and not a talented actor sorry!)

The only satisfactory Lex we have gotten in live action is Rosenbaum. Clancy Brown is the best overall even though he’s only the voice.
Haven’t seen Lyle Talbot as Lex but George Reeves is still one of my top 5 Superman so I’m hoping he’s at least decent!

it really is a shame that Cooper was rumored to have passed on the role, he is at the very top of my list.

interesting suggestion, as its funny to think of someone who we were discussing as Bruce for Lex (as I wouldn't think of those 2 as interchangeable) perhaps his window of opportunity of still pulling off the "traditional hero" look for someone like Bruce, has past... but, the idea of a more imposing Lex with a classic look is intriguing (I feel like his version of Lex would be more fitting for the "President Lex" type)

he does have a certain intensity to his acting that could work for the character....

-quick bald mock-up (excuse the rush job) not perfect, but, just to get the idea of how he might look

Can you make one of Oliver Jackson Cohen? I'm curious as to how he'd look.

On the older side but maybe Josh Hartnett:

Or Tom Pelphrey:

Maybe even Boyd Holbrook:

I’m quite interested to see what Gunn would want for Lex.

Five Nights at Freddy's has convinced me that Josh Hutcherson is perfect. :o
