Can't really be bothered to read through the whole thread, but my idea for a Green Lantern film/film series goes ROUGHLY something like this:
* Sinestro is the main villain and Abin Sur opposed his rule of Qward (sp?). Abin was mortally injured by Sinestro when he discovered the tyrant had his sights set on Earth
* Abin crashlands on Earth, seeking out a new Green Lantern for the Earth sector after the previous Lantern, Alan Scott, retired the honour (though, unknown to the Corps, still possesses his power ring). Abin passes his ring on to Hal Jordan, warning of Sinestro, and promptly dies
* Finding the ring's power beyond his comprehension, and drawing media attention as Green Lantern, Jordan brings Alan Scott out of hiding and he becomes Jordan's mentor, providing exposition about the Lantern's abilities and Sinestro's menace.
* Jordan proves himself against Sinestro, sending him packing, and winning the day, perhaps with assistance from a revived Alan Scott Green Lantern
If the film proved successful enough, bring on the sequel, in which:
* On a mission for the Green Lantern Corps, Hal Jordan and Alan Scott are presumed killed by someone/something (with the assumption that, if Scott becomes GL again, he returns to duty as Jordan's mentor, or something). Thus, two new Green lantern's are assigned to Earth duty: the wiseass, cocky Guy Gardener and the straight-lace, ex-army guy John Stewart (a perfect "odd couple")
* Drawn to Oa, we are introduced to the entire scope of the Corps, and Guy and John are shown the ropes and assisted by Killowog in uncovering the truth behind the disappearance of Jordan and Alan (sci-fi mystery, with lots of action depending on who the villain is...Mongul, maybe, or a returning Sinestro)
* At the conclusion, Jordan and Alan are rescued. Jordan remains on Oa (for whatever reason) while Stewart becomes the new GL of Earth, Guy manages to smuggle his ring back with him and Alan officially retires once more, though also keeps his ring
The final film would probably be something like:
* An average, struggling artist Kyle Rayner has everyday problems: lack of money, no one's interested in his comic strips and his girfriend Jade just left him, when out of the blue he discovers a Green Lantern power ring and is transformed into Green Lantern
* Endowned with powers limited only by his imagination, he begins fighting crime and getting endorsments. However, just as he is beginning to enjoy his newfound lease of life, Alan Scott seeks him out and reveals to him that he is in fact probably the last Green Lantern in existance
* Alan introduces Kyle to John and Guy, both now powerless and lacking their rings, and they provide expostion about a powerful force known as Parallax that wiped out the Green Lantern Corps some time ago. They identify Kyle's ring as Jordan's and that Hal hasn't been seen since he chose to remain on Oa.
* Kyle, against their wishes, travels to oa to investigate and finds the planet in ruins. There he teams up with Killowog to deduce to cause of the carnage and find the Central Battery destroyed
* At some point, Sinestro and his own ring-weilding forces attack the two and surround them, joined by another figure: Hall Jordan, baked in the corruption of Qward energy and brainwashed into Parallax. Sinestro details his ultimate revenge in shaming and disgracing Jordan's reputation and using him to destroy the Green Lantern Corps
* A brief fight ensues, but it is a fleeting effort. With his dying breath, caused by Parallax, Killowog launches Kyle into the central battery and there he undergoes a transformation into Ion and resurrects the entire Corps as Green energy spirits, who drive off Sinestro's forces. Ion and Parallax clash, with the will-power of Kyle over-riding Sinestro's influence and purging Jordan of his infestation
* Enraged, Sinestro reabsorbs this energy into himself and attempts to kill Kyle, but Jordan intervenes producing two different paths: either Jordan intervenes and, together, they defeat Sinestro and use Ion's power to resurrect the entire Corps or, the same thing happens, except Jordan drives himself and Sinestro into the sun and sacrfices his life for this end to happen.
In this way, we get a legacy hero, with all the Lantern's we know getting screen time, exposure and roles similar to their comic countrparts. We start with a localised story on Earth, then branch out to the universe in the second and end on a dark, climactic chapter that ultimately restores the status quo.
