The Green Lantern movie thread

No. Jamie Fox wouldn't be a good choice for John. There are better out there.

I'd want the JLU animated version where John is an ex-marine and very rigid. I don't think Fox can play that.

How about Kirk Jones - the actor who played Blade on the cable series? (Not the movie)

Or Henry Simmons?

Jamie Foxx can play rigid, that said, the comics version of John isn't. There are better out there, but there's no need to say actors can't do things that they clearly can.

Richard T. Jones would be fun, but he's a bit to round, both in face and physique to really portray John for me.

Hi All

Well one thing is for certain things will get done RIGHT! decision wise hopefully this summer at Comic Con in July http://www.comic-con.org just hope I can win some $$$ & crash downtown. but I digress & I'm sorry to have to be the one to do this again but folks who worship a certain young actor don't leave me any other choice but to state for the record THAT THERE IS NO WAY IN THE MILKY WAY THAT THE YOUNG MAN (Leo D.) IS RIGHT FOR THE ROLE. sorry all you LEO WORSHIPPERS but it's NOT GONNA HAPPEN! so deal/live with it 'cause this talk Re: that one is just making me a bit so drop it. can lieve with someone like Ben Kingsley as Abin though along with starting at the beginning. at least the good news is so far was unable to get through to the guy (afficiondo) on late night radio but WAS able to relay message Re: Jack B issue to creator of Ghostbusters Logo, Legal Eagle(s) throughout CA Re: entertainment division. am 'workin on the rest

Yesterday, while I was watching the Justice League: New Frontier on Netflix on my Windows Media Player. David Boreanez did a good job doing the voice of the Golden Age "Green Lantern" and I really enjoy watching the animated movie. This Justice League movie is based on the secret origins of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, & Flash who fought their enemies during the Pentagon War during War World II ?

Its a thrill to watch this animated movie and this hero Hal Jordan who transform himself into a Green Guardian has 100% defended off his arch enemies. So I'm getting ready to see a Green Lantern movie.

Paul Newman was also mentioned in the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hal_Jordan that he was created in the Image of Hal Jordan's appearances.

What do everyone think of Paul Newman star in this movie ?

I got a better character role for him to play an Injured Green Lantern called Abin-Sur who was on a mission to earth to search for a Human being to become, the newest hero to take his place.

Actually, Hal is the Silver Age Green Lantern. The Golden Age Green Lantern was Alan Scott.

Nevertheless, the idea of Paul Newman having a role in a live action Green Lantern film intrigues me.

David Boreanaz should play the live action Hal Jordan, no question.

Jamie Bamber (Apollo on Battlestar Galactica) as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern
Kate Beckinsale as Carol Ferris/Star Sapphire
Hugo Weaving as Sinestro

Kilowog, Salaak, Tomar-Re and other members of the GLC should be put on screen using CGI, animatronics and/or makeup effects - whatever looks best in each case.

The story should be Hal's origin wherein he's drafted into the GLC, visits Oa for the first time, goes through training, etc. Sinestro should be the main villain, with the twist that Sinestro at some point, wanting to throw Hal off his trail and keep him busy, uses Zamaron tech to transform Carol Ferris into Star Sapphire.

Jesse Bradford - Kyle Rayner
Common - John Stewart
Nathan Fillion - Hal Jordan
Bradley Cooper - Guy Gardner
Dennis Haysbert - Kilowog
Clive Owen - Sinestro
Amanda Righetti - Alex DeWitt
Jennifer Connelly - Carol Ferris

My idea for a Green Lantern movie involves all of the earth GLs. When it comes down to it, Green Lantern isn't going to be getting a whole mess of sequels. In my opinion, the best way to do the opening film is to make it a popcorn flick. I know this idea isn't going to be received well here but whatever.

The basic plotline is that Kyle Rayner is given the last GL ring by Ganthet with the message to report to Oa in two days. When Kyle reaches Oa he finds the planet in rubble, along with the bodies of hundreds of Green Lanterns. Ganthet reveals that the former Green Lantern Sinestro escaped from his cell by unknown means and began destroying the GLC. Kyle is given as much training as he can from the wounded Kilowog and then sent to find the three other Earth GLs. It is revealed that Sinestro has again taken over Korugar and is going to publicly execute the Earth GLs who captured him. When Kyle arrives on Korugar he finds Sinestro waiting for him and begins beating and taunting him. During the fight Kyle is thrown through a wall and ends up in the jail cell of the Earth GLs, Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Garnder. Kyles ring then splits into 4 rings which then go to each of the GLs. It is revealed that Sinestro was infected by Parallax. However, due to Sinestro's tremendous will, he had been able to maintain some measure of control. As the battle rages on Sinestro begins losing control of his actions and Parallax ends up taking control. Cue a Rebirth style final fight with the rest of the remaining Lanterns coming to help.

Jim Caviezel - Hal Jordan :gl:
Christopher Eccleston- Sinestro
Jennifer Connelly - Carol Ferris
Michael Clarke Duncan- Kilowog
Jill ''Cowngirl'' Pearlman - Melissa George
Gill ''Rocket-Man'' anderson - Ben Browder
General Willis - Harvey Keitel
Chummuck - Ron Pearlman
Tomar-Tu - Doug Jones
Abin Sur - Doug Jones
Ganthet - CG/Christopher Lambert

The story should be like the the "Secret Origin" story arc. It can be as evolving Hal Jordan's life from a test pilot to one of the bravest Green Lanterns who's ever lived. Think of it as a "Year One" movie, as Hal's character is very similar to Christian Bale's Batman from "Batman Begins".

I think Henry Simmons would be a great choice for John Stewart....or Morris Chestnut.

He'd be good but Hollywood has quite a few actors I'd like to see get the role.

Ben Browder, Nathan Fillion and Jamie Bamber come to mind.

When it comes down to it, Green Lantern isn't going to be getting a whole mess of sequels.

Which would be a huge mistake.

They could make literally dozens of films on the franchise without running out of good ideas.

I agree...once again if films like FF and IM can get sequels...a kick arse GL film can definitely get sequels.

I mean more then a trilogy.

Trilogies only work if the franchise only has limited ideas. Most super-hero comic franchises can support dozens of films. That's due to their serial nature.

And many spin-offs.

A trilogy and a movie with 2 sequels is different.

By setting up a trilogy, you can forshadow the future more, making promises and allusions to things that have a better chance of coming true.

True.

I can understand that. It's just the movies don't need to end with a single trilogy if the franchise can still generate good ideas to put in film.

Who do you think should direct?

After seeing what Favreua could do with Iron Man, I think David Dobkin is a good choice for Flash or GL. I'm not so sure about this 'Broken Hearts Club' guy though. Dobkin has done action, with Shanghai Knights, but this guy hasn't.

If

is the villain, do you think he'll look like that or do you think they'll change it.

Who do you think should direct?

Danny Boyle. A lot of his films deal with the full emotional spectrum especially fear. A lot of his movies are genre movies 28 Days Later, Sunshine, and Shallow Grave. His scope also tends to be really small scope and id like to see him try something bigger

Except for Caviezel (doesn't look like Hal or fit his persona) I pretty much agree.

Anyone want to read a GREEN LANTERN script I wrote in two days a few years back? It's kind of cheesy and lighthearted (in appropriate ways), and I never went back and made all the themes and so forth work quite right, and some of the dialogue is "placeholder", but...it's kinda fun.

Featured Hal Jordan learning to be GL with Sinestro, Carol Ferris, Tom Kalmaku, and appearances by the Corps. It's very GREEN LANTERN BEGINS. Except for the ones who have been around for a long time.

Like in The Flash thread, I must respond by saying, WB can't afford to be thinking long-term franchise for Green Lantern. If a Green Lantern film is highly successful, it may get a sequel. But to get even that, the filmmakers would have to ensure part 1 was as complete and compelling a stand-alone film as possible. I've seen so many would-be franchises crash and burn on the first film, because they're more occupied with setting up the mythology for hypothetical sequels than they are with telling a good story in the current film.
