The Guns thread - Part 1

Being sexual identity/gay marriage was NOT a 'right' (as per the scotus) at the time, how were they breaking the law?
AND How is it being an immoral bigot to say "Sorry, but my religion says i can't do X">> OR are muslim bakeries who refuse to sell pork also 'immoral bigots'??

Wow, that is a serious stretch. I have been in hundreds of convenience stores that are owned by Muslims, and every single one of them sells something with pork in it. Their religion forbids them from eating it, not selling it. And if by chance they did own a bakery or restaurant, they would probably not have anything with pork on the menu to begin with.

Yeah, you can't refuse to sell something if it's not in your store/restaurant to begin with. What a non-issue :funny:

Guys, lets give our opinions thoughtfully, and without personal jabs to other posters.

They also sell guns at their Fred Meyer stores here on the West Coast, but that's about it and I can't remember the last time I've heard anyone buying a gun from them. All that these 21-and-over policies and semi-auto bans by the big box stores do is just make people go to their local gun shops or the big box sporting goods stores that do sell them.

Steps.....one step at a time.

I had never heard of Kroger selling them either until the other day......I just heard that it was in their Marketplace stores. I shop at one of the Kroger Marketplace stores, but I've never seen any guns being sold there...I don't go to that part of the store, I'm there for groceries.

And the NRA and Pence yelled at Trump this evening. We will see if any of it sticks in his tweets tomorrow.

He changed his mind again......it seems that with each group he morphs into that group for a time, until he meets with another group, and then all of that goes out the window. I believe he has his A+ rating from the NRA once again. Bless his heart....

He tends to agree with whoever spoke to him last. He can't form actual opinions of his own. :(

Aaaand another school shooting. Central Michigan University. A little close to home, for me.

I just saw that. So stupid. :cmad: It's never ending.

His little stage show to look good in front of the cameras is his routine now. He does it, then just walks it back later. Its getting boring, or would be if it wasn't hurting the country.

LTuser, you really are pretty out-there man.

Extremes on either side are never helpful, left of right. Don't be as bad as the "ban ban ban!" types with your "no anything, ever" crap.

inaction because of the pro gun lobby and its bought and paid for politicians will bring about a backlash

a whole generation of kids who want NOTHING to do with firearms will be voting soon, maybe not this cycle or next, but there is going to be a big shift regarding gun culture in the US

some reports say this was a domestic issue

I am getting tired of reading about these incidents where someone gets divorced or breaks up with somebody and the sorry ass jilted ex (usually a white guy) decides to go on a spree and shoot her, maybe her family, kids (if there are any) then himself

That situation actually happened at Central Michigan when I was there, at a local bar, the Cabin. I had some friends who witnessed the shooting. This was back in 2011 or 10.

Not sure what this situation was, but it seems to be similar. Luckily no one that I know who still going to CMU was involved.

Somehow excusing it as a domestic rather than a crazed lunatic doesn't make the shooting sound any less scary. :(

no it does not

as someone who grew up in an abusive household, domestic violence (on its own) freaks me out

so when I hear these awful stories, it affects me differently and usually a bit worse

You do realize most firearms were BASED ON MILITARY WEAPONRY first.. So by that logic, "Cause its used by the military"< lets ban all .306's, 9mm and M1911 .45 pistols etc..

Well no, that's not the logic I was using at all, the logic I was using is that no civilian should be able to own a rifle capable of inflicting the sort of damage detailed in that article.

The point I was making regarding the military using a variant of an AR-15 was that the US military uses the most technologically advanced & best weapon available to them at the time. I'm sure that any civilian would be capable of buying one, then with all legal aftermarket modifications available such as stocks, foregrips, bipods, sights/scopes, muzzles etc that it could be made to feel & handle nearly identical to the one the military is using.. except maybe being semi-automatic only & firing different type of ammunition.

Are you suggesting it is not against US law to discriminate against people for being gay or bisexual? Refusing someone a service because they are gay or bisexual is no different then refusing them service because of the color of their skin. Using your religion to justify that does not change it.

Not selling pork to everyone is not the same to not selling cakes to people because of who they sleep with.

A) several of those bakers were fully willing to BAKE a cake, just not cater weddings. AND
B) since at the time, LBGTQ was not a protected 'class', how was it wrong at the time"??

Also, would you have an issue if a business said "Since most drivers who die from texting and driving are kids, i am not going to sell a car to anyone under 23"??
Deflection is all this movement has left in their arsenal of disingenuous rhetoric.

How is it being disingenuous?? IF one is being done for 'safety reasons' (gun age restrictions) WHY NOT make all things that way for 'safety reasons"??

Steps.....one step at a time.

Same here. Two years ago, i had to get rid of old 'recliner chairs' cause the levers to raise the footrests finally broke (though they did last me 5+ years).. I shopped around and the local kroger marketplace down in Pickrington had the best value.. YET i don't remember seeing any guns (other than some Nerf stuff in the toys section) on offer..

a whole generation of kids who want NOTHING to do with firearms will be voting soon, maybe not this cycle or next, but there is going to be a big shift regarding gun culture in the US

Then i truly pity our military and police readiness in the future, if they want NOTHING To do with guns period..

AND while yes, inaction will bring a backlash, SO WILL MAKING stupid do nothing laws, just to 'appear to be doing something'..

Well no, that's not the logic I was using at all, the logic I was using is that no civilian should be able to own a rifle capable of inflicting the sort of damage detailed in that article.

So what about all those people who've bought desert eagles (.50 cal pistols) or civilian versions of Barret .50 cals?? Should they not be allowed to own them "cause of the damage they can cause"??

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you are in a safe place now. :(

You know why. You're just being obtuse. There has to be line drawn somewhere. Some of those lines move up and down every once in a while based on societal shifts. Right now, guns are a hot topic because of a string of terrible events so new regulations are on the table.
