It's so mainstream to hate on Nickelback. They're talented and have a ton of great songs. I don't understand people...

I can't wait to hear the new theme, especially from this group of people. I am now expecting a complete overhaul of Horner's theme, which I am fine with.

If it's gone, I'll miss it for sure, but definitely looking forward to a new theme as well.

This score is something to be pretty stoked about, I liked Horner's score but I didn't like it enough to buy the score. I can already tell you I'm buying this when it comes out. :woot:

Johnny freaking Marr! Yes pleeease. I can't wait to hear what these guys come up with. :word:

I liked Horner's score. I hope they keep the core of it.

You don't assemble these musicians to riff on the score of someone they didn't bring back in the first place. It would be ridiculous. Maybe a few cues at most, but this thing will be 99.9% new at least. If it isn't I'll be shocked. Marr for the win.

wow. how crazy is this news?
i can't wait to see this.

Exciting. Johnny Marr is excellent. His guitar work on Inception really elevated that score.

I'm so excited about this now. Zimmer, man. The man's an innovator.

Agreed.

I want them to keep nothing from ASM.

James Horner, honestly, did a really bad job. And despite the one cue that recurred and that everyone loved, the score should be completely revamped.

I'm actually really excited as well! Zimmer has done nothing but top quality work, so this is nothing but good news for me. James Horners score is, for me, on par with Christopher Young's SM3 score. It didn't feel like it had much personality to it (for lack of a better word at the moment).

In a recent interview concerning his score for Nolan's Interstellar, he noted that his signature bombastic horns (popularized by Inception) have become so immitated that he's looking to try something different now. Can't wait to see what he's got in store.

Maybe he forgot the word "best" in there somewhere.

People hate nickelback because theyre the definition of sellouts. They're original music was actually pretty good, and then they essentially turned into pop singers. I still love "hero" from SM1 tho

regarding the 'supergroup' news... i'm so freakin pumped to hear what they come up with. Music and score is actually my favorite part of film. I think we're in for an incredible and unique soundtrack for this

They could do wonders with the upcoming trailer... However I think the score will be fairly basic. They'll save the good stuff for the theatrical one.

How exactly? His action music was great, and his romantic music was gorgeous. Especially the cue where Peter visits Gwen for dinner.

I'm extremely pumped for what we get in TASM2, but I really never understood the hate for Horner's music. I could buy that the action music maybe could've been better, but everything else what absolute magic imo. Even the action music, it wasn't your typical/normal action score, but watching each fight with that music felt like watching the action of a comic book ripped right off the page to me. So that right there makes it good to me, even though its not your regular 'action' type score

I agree. It felt like it was just music for the sake of music. For the majority of TASM, the score was just rolling along without taking into consideration what was going on in the film. And the lack of layers in the score was disappointing because I know Horner can pull together a large ensemble and make use of most of the instruments at once. We did get some nice trumpets and brassy sounds, but that's about it.

Horner's work on ASM was imo remarkably brilliant. Most blockbuster scores in the past decade are all muscle and brawn. Here Horner creates something that is organic, dynamic, colorful, and heartfelt. The overall scope of the music is massive in scale yet it is dramatically intimate.

Having gone back to hear it, my main gripe with Horner's score is the trumpet cue he uses on the main theme. It's awfully generic and sounds like your hero du jour cue, it feels bland. You can hear these kinds of sounds in your basic WWII movie...

Spider-man needs to sound unique. Elfman captured the right feel on his own take on the theme. You feel a sense of speed in it. We could argue a bit about the main chords after it develops but I think the intro to this piece is simply amazing.
