The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Hans Zimmer Score thread

Anyone think we will have a hint of the classic Spider-Man song? Like a modernized version of it blending in with the rest of the score?

Hard to say, but I think probably not.

I'm only thinking of that because we're getting a post-rock score, and it reminded me of the 90s animated series.

If we ever so much as get a passing reference to the Spider-Man theme song (again), it better be the one for the PSX game.

I felt nobody ever addressed the idea that Peter Parker...is young, and that the music he would listen to, that would move him, would be different from the music Batman would listen to. And I thought there should be a playfulness about it.' - Hans Zimmer.

This is good concept by Zim. We know Peter listens to music while fighting crime in TASM2. So imagine this rock type of music but in instrumental form. I am very interested.

I think after we see the plane crashing, and the screen goes to black, we'll hear some music playing followed by Spider-Man falling from the sky. Then perhaps when he lands on one of the police cars, we see him changing the track to a different song. IDK, just an idea.

This was probably asked a while ago but I havent been keeping up with this movie much, but is there a reason Horner isnt returning from the 1st movie and why those themes have been dropped.

I didnt like the TASM score at 1st but it has grown on me hugely over the last couple of years.

Last couple of years? Has it been that long? I don't think it's been out even 2 years yet!

Anyways, I expect it's because Webb just wanted everything to be fresh - Horner's work, while incredible, divided fans. Zimmer has a more universal appeal and seems to be less divisive with critics. This movie will make or break the franchise, so it has to pay off. Webb's creative choices need to make the masses happy, so that I expect had a lot of impact in dropping Horner.

kinda bummed that horner isn't returning, i liked his spiderman theme for asm.

i'm hoping the music we hear on the asm2 website isn't the actual theme now. but it probably is. if it is, it doesn't sound like zimmer is even trying :csad:
dammit.

We don't know if its the main theme or just one of the tracks… I wouldn't say he isn't trying if that's the case though. I think that track he came up with was just "filler" music for website, but we'll see.

Looks like Steve Jablonsky was approached to do the ASM2 score before Zimmer came on board:

That's a good question. There was actually...I don't know if I'm supposed to say this but whatever, nobody told me not to. I did get a call months and months ago about the next SPIDER-MAN and that Marc [Webb], the director, was interested. He liked my work and that was terrific. I was all excited. I've never done a superhero movie and I know there are a lot of them out there, but it would be a great one to do. I literally woke up the next morning, sat up in bed and went, "Oh my God, I have Transformers 4 to do," right on top of each other. I called my agent and all I said was, "Transformers 4", and he said, "All right." We had to call Sony and said, "We're sorry." They were very respectful, "We don't want to interfere with your relationship with Michael". I was sad, but I do have to stick with Michael. They were two huge projects and they would be the same exact schedule and it would be impossible to do both, to do a good job on both if I was trying to do them at the same time.

^ Whoa. I'm gonna look up his work right now. But you know what. I'm so so glad we got Zimmer. I'm seriously getting everything I want with this series.

Ah yeah I keep thinking it was out 2011 but it was 2012. I love Zimmers scores the majority of the time, his MOS was brilliant, but I grew to love Horners TASM score and I much prefer when movies keep musical continuity between the movies like the Raimi trilogy and TDK trilogy.

For me personally it takes a little bit of magic when sequels have totally different scores to their originals.

in 5 days some lucky person will sit and listen and see clips of TASM2 and man am I jealous

The MGS games are beautiful. From the gameplay, cutscenes, or even the score… its just great. :D

But… ZIMMER! GIVE ME ZIMMER!

I don't know if this has already been answered but was there a reason why James Horner didn't return? Was it not a happy working relationship or was it a mutual thing?

Seems like they were looking for a new composer fairly early on so I assume Horner was the one who decided not to come back.

I think for Horner it was just a one-time thing with no commitment. TASM1 was testing the waters a little bit, and I think it was cheaper to hire him back then. For the sequel they probably wanted to get someone much better and pay more money.

They probably wanted something bigger and better than what Horner provided on the first film, so they decided to look for a different composer.
