The Hip Hop/Rap Thread - Part 2

Cyhi's new song seemingly dissing Kanye was great. I keep wondering why Kanye keeps this guy on the bench

Sean price is the *****! He tried to sell an old potato on Pawnstars.

But idk man. There was always corny music. I mean I love the song but come on "all I wanna do zoom a zoom zoom zoom" "let me see you tootsie roll" there were and always will be stupid dance songs.
People whining and complaining about the state of hip hop are looking at things with rose tinted glasses. There was always corny, stupid stuff. Vanilla Ice? A lot of MC Hammer's output...come on

And there is so much good music out there and with the internet you can access it so damn easily. I wouldn't say hip hop is a better shape but it's still good

It's just a pet peeve of mine when people go "Man back in the day _____ was so much better. What is this nowadays"

QFT, bruh.

That's a pet peeve of mine too. People miss out on so much good music with that outlook.

However, I think I might understand where, in this case anyway, it's coming from. When I was a kid, the real popular rap, the stuff on MTV and the radio, the stuff that was easily accessible, was also really good. It was innovative, it was poignant, and it was commercially viable and accepted by the mainstream. Back in the day, to find an MC with something to say, you only had to scratch the surface. Today, if you only scratch the surface, you're gonna find a million people who sound alike, all rapping about the same things, yelling the same cliches, and chasing the same dream. So, if you don't do any digging, it seems like yesteryear was so much better.

Wow, R.I.P. Sean Price.

I still remember jamming out to Sean Price and Agallah on GTA3. It was my favorite song on the whole game.

Never listened to his music, but RIP Sean Price

Ruck a.k.a. Ruckus a.k.a. Tall Sean a.k.a. Sean P a.k.a...the list goes on dude had more aliases than the entire Wutang Clan, lol.

One of the best out of the whole Boot Camp Clique. R.I.P.

Can someone explain to me what's so great about Dilla beats? I mean I've listened to about 20 beats and have never been too impressed. To give some info my favorite producer ever is 9th wonder. I just find Dilla beats to be incredibly simple and boring. The only beat I really like is his sample of the Jackson 5 "All I do". That was beautifully done. I'm just curious what makes him so legendary.

If you don't like J Dilla, you should listen to Nujabes. He is, by far, my favorite producer in all of hip hop.

R.I.P.

:csad: :down

So sad, that production was so chill on every track. Listened to his stuff so often during high school.

Anyone check the new Rick Ross mixtape?

J Dilla was great because the quality of the beats he made were damn near immaculate in their layering. They were whimsical and other wordly at times even. Black Milk comes really close to Dilla in my view. Both of them have made beats for some of my favorite artists.

Slum Village's - Reunion for example is a damn great song.

Are there any battle rap fans here? When I say that I mean the battle leagues like King of The Dot, Smack/URL, and Dont Flop etc?

Well tonight Smack/URL's Summer Madness 5 will be main evented by Loaded Lux and Charlie Clips. There's a lot that has happened but I'd need five pages to go into detail on it lol

Yep. His first album is amazing. Every time I listen to it, I listen through every track. One of the few albums that can keep my attention from start to finish.

Came here to post Isaiah Rashad's new single, but glad to see someone beat me to the punch. His first album is amazing, one of my favorites from last year. Honestly, I'd rank it higher than any of Schoolboy Q's, Jay Rock's, or Ab-Soul's albums.

Anyone here listen to Martin Sky? Been loving his debut.

Martin $ky is okay, he's tried to make waves in the Midwest Circuit. His music has improved over the last three or so years, but his performance isn't the greatest and his offstage antics (i.e. attitude) have turned me away from his music.

Hmm, okay. Guess I'm behind on the times; I saw him live for the first time in August and thought he gave a solid performance for a relative newcomer.

What's his reputation offstage? Because unless he's a irrevocable prick, I doubt his attitude's much different than a lot of artists in the industry -- especially big names.
