The Horror Thread - Part 3

finished 'Dead Girl' a little while ago. wow...that was disturbing. i've rarely seen so many casual rape scenes in a horror movie. besides that, there's also a lot of zombie grossness. i'm really not sure how i feel about this movie. it was well-acted. the movie had a decent enough story and message. but both were just sooo dark. there was basically no one to root for, in this film. reminded me of Cabin Fever (which makes sense because the main villain was also the villain in Cabin Fever 2).

Trailer for Jinn

It's about time we get a slice of that demon horror pie.

Just watched The Conjuring. You guys were right...unexpectedly great horror flick. Loved it. Little gore, tons of suspense.

Nice!

Anyone else find Insidious 2 to be a really good follow up to the first film? I just watched it a few nights ago and felt it was definitely one of the better horror movie sequels.

Watched FROM BEYOND last night. It was awesome. Same director as The Re-Animator, so it's very close to that in style.

Stuart Gordon also did another Lovecraft based film, Dagon. It's not that great but kind of fun.

I loved From Beyond, it makes for a great double feature with Re-Animator. Also...dat Barbara Crampton.

Dead of Night (1945) is one of the best horror movies I have seen. Yeah, it's old, but
when I lay in bed after I saw it, I couldn't stop thinking about it...freaky stuff!

i caved in and purchased this last month; wanting something to watch during the snowstorm. yeah, it was worth it; especially for the ventriloquist dummy.

I liked all parts of it, even the golf sequence:hehe: a special edition of it was just released on blu-ray and DVD in the UK.

A movie that reminds me a bit of Dead of Night is "Three Cases of Murder". It's also scary, but not like today's horror movies. Orson Welles plays the badguy in the third and final story...he's suffering from nightmares. Some of them are pretty funny:woot:

The best (and scariest) story is the first, about a guy that walks into a painting. I won't spoil it...:woot:

I wish more movies could be like Dead of Night and Three Cases of Murder. Ugly guys jumping at the screen and buckets of blood doesn't scare me. I try to stay away from movies like that, because they always disappoint me. I prefer strange and nightmarish tales of the supernatural...I'm not afraid of inbred cannibals when I take a walk in the woods, but the Blair Witch. The thing in my attic isn't a zombie, but a Japanese ghost lady.

My favorite ventriloquist tale with "Magic."

Heard of it, but haven't seen it. Looks interesting!:yay:
I think you might like it, none of that "Ugly guys jumping at the screen and buckets of blood" stuff:cwink:. Think Hitchcock's "Psycho" but with a ventriloquist dummy.

Magic is damn good
If they ever portray The Ventriloquist in a Batman film, I hope they take some inspiration from Dead of Night and Magic, instead of using a gangster dummy with a speech impediment.
