I just thought this was cool and decided to share it.

Just did Silent Night Deadly Night as part of my Christmas Marathon, the deerhead on the wall kill has got to be my favorite from that franchise.

I liked that one too. I watched it on Netflix last summer. I thought it was a Danish movie though (Amsterdam is in Denmark, right?).

Anyway, worth watching if you can find it.

it might be danish. i had to do a quick google search to find the title. but i put in "dutch evil santa movie." and that turned up.

Halloween Night

An Asylum Pictures movie that despite the Halloween name and generic ripoff theme (masked murderer kills teens) is surprisingly better than their normal fare. It's still crap but it's high-grade crap. I think it was worth it just for the woman who took the initiative to beat the hell out of the killer before her own unfortunate death by his hands.

She was of course killed in a ridiculous fashion (coat hanger), a lesbian (who had been in bed with her girlfriend and had sex) and the entire fight was somewhat silly, but she didn't just play the helpless victim either.

Strange that of all the movies to have a female protaganist so progressively fight off her attacker in horror, it's an Asylum movie that does it.

A couple of things...

I watched Byzantium. It was one of my most anticipated movies of the year. I liked it, didn't love it. As far as modern vampire movies go, it was certainly above most of the pack (Kiss of the Damned, Twilight, Embrace of the Vampire etc) had the proper mood etc. I just think it was a tad predictable.

Also, JUST finished watching Curse of Chucky. This was MUCH better than I expected! It actually managed to create a true Horror mood, despite the franchise's inherent (and prior) silliness. Yes, it relied on some tried and true tricks...but so did The Conjuring...and...you know what...I think I liked this more. Maybe it was because I was expecting so little and got something good (while expecting something great from The Conjuring and getting something good).

EDITED TO SAY: I do wish that they had not included a few mentions of prior films, especially the latter films, which I think should just be washed away, but ended up playing heavily on this film. I'd rather it have been a vague sequel that happened at some point after Child's Play and leave it at that.

To be honest the nods to the latter sequels didn't bother me so much. Chucky got back to his roots and that's what mattered. I enjoyed all the films, just Seed a lot less, but I kinda hate when a series gets convoluted and tries to overwrite or ignore things, unless its a total remake/reboot. It's kinda like, I love the Halloween series but its a pretty big mess of continuity.

Um, I don't know if you're kidding, but Amsterdam is in The Netherlands. :cwink:

It's all the same thing up there isn't it? :hehe:

Definitely worth checking out, it explains a lot of the randomness that went on in the first one.

Tonight is the night, special showing of Black Christmas at our local Cult Movie Thursday at the local historic theater, can't wait.

Canada is apart of the US, it just doesn't realize it yet.

Same here.

I interviewed the second unit director who shot the scene, and I appreciate how they pulled it off successfully, especially considering the unfavorable conditions.

Micheal Spence: The biggest issue with shooting it was that it was in the snow, and it was cold. For me, Second Unit shooting involved a lot of night stuff: I remember shooting the scene when the girl lands on the antlers and flies through the window. I had to do some stuff outside, and it was at three or four o’clock in the morning, trying to get it done before the sun came up. A lot of the time, it was drinking a lot of coffee and stamping your feet a lot.

Saw Sightseers last night. It's being touted as one of the best Horror movies of the year. I really liked it, though it was only barely Horror.

A guy and his girlfriend go on a sightseeing tour in hopes that it will provide some inspiration for his writing. They aren't right in the head.

Since the whole movie follows them, and they are the "protagonists" in the film, it doesn't give a Horror vibe when they attack people etc. In fact, the movie is very funny. I laughed out loud a few times, so thats a winner for me.

i liked the trailer but have avoided this one. i might give a try because you mentioned the comedy angle. there hasn't been a good killer couple movie since 'Perfect Getaway.' :woot:

It's one of those dry, dark, british humor things. It's obviously not a straight up comedy like Scary Movie or something...but funny lines and situations show up occasionally during the course of the film.

I haven't watched any horror movies since my October Halloween Marathon. I think I'll watch Black Christmas. Are there any other Christmas related horror films out there?

And a follow up from the UK: Stalled, "A janitor gets trapped in a women's restroom and encounters an all-out attack by a horde of zombies."

What is going on Netflix?

Anyone up for a 2013 list of favorites...

Maniac
Frankensteins Army
John Dies at the End
The Conjuring
Your Next
