The Horror Thread - Part 5

I watched "Zombeavers" last month, a great flick to drink to with friends (or if you dont drink, you can still laugh and make fun of it). Never takes itself seriously, I'll recommend it for your dvd collection.

I dunno, it was definitely better than Rec 3, but not quite up to par with Rec 1 & 2.

I was hoping Rec 1 and 2 level but it wasn't as good as those two.

I love the premise for it and everything in those first two acts. For me it fell apart when they got to the final part of the movie, I was expecting a really good conclusion and what we got was a cliffhanger.

Caught American Mary on Netflix.

It started out interesting, telling the story of a med school student pulled into the world of extreme body modification but completely lost steam and just kind of faffed about for the last two thirds introducing a few different plot threads that never really go anywhere or pay off. What started off stylish and interesting just became film #12389 with an unnecessary rape-revenge plot. 4/10

Fans of horror comedy should check out Housebound and What We Do in the Shadows.

Both movies are set in New Zealand and they are amazing, especially the latter which is absolutely hilarious.

Watched Tusk last night. Honestly, it got a lot of bad reviews, but I didn't think it was that bad. The transformation was actually shocking to me at first. The surprise character was a bit annoying, but a lot of people said he ruined the film, and I really didn't feel that way.

I watched Maniac (the remake). The eerie mood was interesting, and the fp po was well made. Wood was great in the role. There was something special in this one, I don't know, maybe the 80's synthe music, anyway I liked it way more than I thought I would.

I also watched Alien for the first time ever.

I watched Ouija and it wasn't that bad. I saw some reviews call it the worst movie of the year which seemed a bit strong.

I watched half of Jesabelle which is pretty good so far.

It's one of the few times where a horror remake was as good if not better than the original. And yeah the music was incredible and it's so overlooked whenever great horror scores get brought up.

So what horror movies are you guys/gals looking forward to in 2015?

It Follows is my most anticipated so far, and also, Krampus which is out at the end of the year.

The Dark Half (1993)
Directed by George A. Romero
Based on the Novel by Stephen King
Starring Timothy Hutton

Just watched this for the first time, and you know what? I thought it was actually one of the better King adaptations ever... and it never seems to be praised or even brought up in any discussion. I was pleasantly surprised, and there were some genuinely scary bits in it.

8/10

I'm looking forward to

Victor Frankenstein , It's the story of Igor played by Daniel Radcliffe.

It Follows

Krampus

Cooties

What We Do in the Shadows , hasn't been released in the U.S. yet

Crimson Peak , Del Toro

Cub

31 , Rob Zombie's new horror film

and most of all Unfriended.

So bad it's good I hope. I haven't laughed that much at a trailer in a long time.

I want to see The Lazarus Effect. The film looks generic but I like the random cast of Oliva Wilde, Donald Glover, Evan Peters and Sarah Bolger

They gave way too much away in the trailer , but the premise does seem interesting.

I donated to 31, so, I'm looking forward to it. And Crimson Peak. As much as I am happy Dougherty is going Krampus, I wish he had done Trick or Treat 2.

So is T'RT2 not happening now? It got formally announced and everything. Surely its still going to happen.

Any other people love the original Fright Night?

What they did to Chris Sarandon was far more terrifying than any modern day vampire make-up I've seen, especially that scene when he first turns in front of Charlie.

I'd like to see a new good Hellraiser. I loved the first two, watched a few of the sequels and they just got worse.

Sad because "The Babadook" might never arrive to my country's silver screens.

(By the way, if you don't know the name of this movie you can google "that horror movie about an evil children's book" and the answer will appear in the fourth link.)
