The Horror Thread - Part 5

Just got done watching "We Are Still Here" on demand from Amazon. Its a pretty well put together film about a couple who recently lost their son being essentially offered as sacrifice to the spirits that haunt their new house.

Pretty good acting, just enough story and a lot of good monster effects and gore.

7/10 worth checking out.

I saw that a few months ago. Pretty good.

The spirits in the house reminded me of the ghost pirates in The Fog.

Beats whatever cult crap the sequels came up with. There never should have been more than one film about Michael Myers

I agree that the Cult of Thorn stuff was crap, but not necessarily that they should have stopped at the first one.

John Carpenter's Halloween II was really good for a sequel. H20 was the perfect way to end the franchise. And I must admit, The Return Of Michael Myers is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine.

But that's my opinion.

I'll take his two Halloween films over the films that followed Halloween III any day.

I'll take the original H1 & 2 over all those. Both suck. I have more fun watching the cheesy ass original sequels (4 and beyond) than I ever did with RZ's though

If we had to have Halloween 2, I wish it was made after Season of the Witch so that the the originally intended anthology like series could have taken place.

I tweeted Halloween Returns director Marcus Dunstan for an update, unfortunately nothing but was glad he replied.

@stebob1984 Not just yet! Still in "top secret" mode. Cheers!

On the whole Zombie Hallowen films thing, I hated his movies I mean the first one when it actually hit remake terroritory did some cool things like the updated mask, the tone of the night etc but all in all his films just don't feel like Halloween films. I wish he'd never been involved in the series also people saying they'd take his 2 films over any post III on the original series fine your entitled to your opinion but given that Halloween IV: The Return of Michael Myers and Halloween H20 are two of the best in the series I strongly disagree. Infact for me Zombie's H2 is the biggest piece of **** I've ever seen, no it's not the worst film ever made but it's the only film that's ever left me feeling pissed off to this day. I would take any of the so called bad Halloween films over that piece of trash.

Yeah I like Halloween 2 a lot.
I've always thought that it was a perfect end for Michael and Loomis too.
That should have been the end of it.
Loomis sacrificing himself stop Michael.

Bringing them back in part 4 with a few not so bad burns was so ****ing lame. :funny:

But noooo
The world needed the curse of thorn, all those awful masks, and teary eyes Michael.

That's what makes Part IV a GUILTY pleasure :cwink:

Halloween 4 & 5 got Danielle Harris started in the horror genre though and I'm pretty thankful for that....
:sly:

Too bad she had plastic surgery and at such a young age too.

Looks like she's got one eyebrow permanently raised.

Anyone check out shudder.tv?

It's a new service that just launched and is essentially Netflix streaming...but all horror movies! It's in the beta stage, and only 5 bucks a month (or $50 a year). While the selection is currently limited, the more people sign up the more money they'll have to expand the library.

But, as it stands, there is a solid selection of both old and new, I was impressed by what I saw. The front page of the website always has a movie streaming for free. Currently, the search function is kinda weird as you can't type in a movie to search for (this is supposed to change as the service develops). But you can search by genre, monster, and also look through curated selections, which is really neat.

Either way, check it out and sign up. It's gonna be rad for any self proclaimed gorehound!

I have. It's an average, well acted possession movie.
Kind of similar to The Last Exorcism minus the cult.

Agreed. John Carpenter purposefully didn't give an explanation as to why Michael felt compelled to kill, at least nothing more in depth than "What was behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply evil." That was all that was needed.

Not only did Rob Zombie take away everything about Michael Myers that made him scary, he heaped on every psychological torture that would turn an average kid into a psycho killer.

Dead parent? Check. (His dad was dead)

Physically/emotionally/psychologically abusive parent/guardian? Check. (His stepfather)

Neglectful guardian? Check. (His sister abandoned her babysitting duties to have sex)

Bullied at school? Check.

Early exposure to sex warping his perspective on things of a sexual nature? Check. (His mother was a stripper, and possibly a prostitute, and his sister has a reputation for being the school harlot)

Torture, kill, and mutilate animals? Check.

Hell, I'm surprised RZ didn't make Michael and Judith's dad their mom's brother or first cousin. Or showed scenes of Michael wetting his bed and setting fire to his neighbors' garage. That's about the only thing missing from his redneck piece of trash of a movie.

Wow, when you list all the points as you did Thundarr, its amazing the studio even gave this a green light after reading all of that trash.

Having Michael survive at the end of the original, just adds to the mystery of how a perceived ordinary man is yet still alive.

It also leaves you with that creepy feeling that The Shape could be anywhere. Walking behind you as you walk to your car. Laying in wait for you in the back seat of your vehicle. Hiding in your closet. Anywhere.

The end of RZ's Halloween just made me leave feeling kinda ill.

I saw Grave Encounters for the first time the other day. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

First one was pretty great, but the 2nd one was trying too hard.

The first and second of what? There are like two or three conversations going on here at once. Do you mean the original Halloween and Halloween II? RZ's Halloween and Halloween II? Some other movies?

Just finished watching Sinister. I was thinking of maybe going to see Sinister 2 tonight, but thought I should watch the first movie first.

I normally don't care much for supernatural horror films, as I find it hard to suspend disbelief with movies about demons, pagan gods, monsters, etc. I will admit, however, that there were some nice creepy moments in this film, and a couple of jump scares that legitimately made me jump (which is always refreshing since I usually see them coming from a mile away). While not a great movie, it wasn't bad. I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10.

Is there any definitive news regarding any new Halloween movie?
I hope R. Zombie isnt attached to it if so.

The Feast/Collector guys are doing it. It's called Halloween Returns. It's following the original two movies with Michael on death row after Loomis blew up the hospital.
