Different strokes indeed :woot:

If HR had been an entire movie about those first 15 mins, Laurie in a mental asylum it would have been a much more interesting film.

That'd still be an interesting idea to explore, imo. But instead of the brother/sister nonsense, have it be a surviving victim of the Shape that he goes after again in an asylum. Would be perfect.

This isn't a bad idea, but since we were talking about Resurrection, the set up was there for a good send off (not including the fact H20 was a perfect ending), but it got pushed into the first 15 minutes instead for the stupid reality-TV premise.

So great horror broadcastings for tomorrow night...

...In the news channels.

HA!

:(

Each to their own, to this day RZHII is the biggest piece of **** I've ever sat through at the cinema.

Oh I've seen FAR worse. And there's more interesting, or potentially interesting stuff in H2 than in those other POS films.

agree, and that goes for most if not all Zombie stuff, no offense to RZ fans. I really enjoy everything Halloween up until The Curse of Michaeal Myers

I thought the hospital scene was pretty well done. The rest of the movie got progressively worse until it turned into straight garbage.

Yeah that was scene was alright, stick some classic John Carpenter score there and I would probably like that scene more.

Ok....can someone explain to me why everyone is so gaga over It Follows? My goodness, the movie was a CHORE to get through. See, I dont mind slowly paced films, but if you're gonna be slow paced then the actors onscreen better be damn compelling enough for me to wanna watch and follow them. Every actor in this movie was wooden and talked like stilted robots, so i couldnt get invested in them. If they had actually acted like real people, I might have enjoyed watching these characters but damn, the plank wood acting coupled with the pacing made this rough for me.

The score was awesome though. Lol

people like me like it because of the 80s feel to it (and the score, for course). how real a character is depends entirely on your perspective. I've met people who acted exactly like the young people in this movie. and I've met the opposite of that. if I were to speculate, the personalities of the friends were muted to make the main character seem even more on her own. something really awful was happening to her. but no one really worked up the energy to care (unless they were trying to get into her pants).

If Follows has other qualities but there are a lot of indie horror movies that skate by on synth score. People have a Pavlovian nostalgia response and a lot of very lazy movies get a lot of praise.

THANK YOU. I mean, yeah i love 80s synth too and It Follows has a GREAT score but the movie was giving me nothing to work with. Like I said, slow paced films are fine so long as the characters and dialogue are engaging (see: pretty much every Tarantino film). But these actors were literally giving me nothing to make me care about them. Have people become so jaded by modern "jump scare" horror films that they grasp onto literay anything that deviates from it?

you definitely sound jaded. I had no problem with the characters in IT Follows. sure, the movie could be better. but i'll take it over something like 'Annabelle.' if you look up 'wooden' in the dictionary, you'll find a picture of the Annabelle couple.

Lol, maybe I am a little jaded. I guess I'm finding, more often than not, whenever a movie is praised to the high heavens and touted as the best thing since sliced bread, I go in expecting to have my mind blown apart and end up vastly disappointed. Perhaps its my own fault for letting reviews and fan reaction inflate my expectations (then again, it was those very same things that got me to watch the movie to begin with).

But both critics and audience response to It Follows were through the roof and its proclaimed as one of the best horror films in decades so naturally I expected something incredible and I just plain dont see it, which makes me think that maybe people are just so tired of traditional horror that they see this semi-throwback as angelic. The movie has a great concept, I just think the snail's pace and actors who seem like they don't even wanna be on the set ruin the concept.

I saw It Follows in theaters...and damned if if I don't remember a thing about it besides the basic premise. I liked it, I really should watch again, but I've forgotten most of it.

I'm commenting on RZ's Halloween while drunk, this makes this movie so much much much better.

I was massively disapointed with It Follows, I think for me the worst thing was the lack of consistency with whatever 'IT' was. Like if it can disguise itself as anyone why doesn't it always disguise itself as a relative or friend? Or why it doesn't go after that one guy for like a week? Also why does the first guy who has 'IT' following him go on a date to the cinema ? He'd be trapped there, etc. I also found the CG in the film to be some of the wurst I've seen. I'm often quite forgiving of poor effects but I honestly think I could have done some better CG than what they did. Lastly too I was mostly bored, I am all for a slower paced movies but at least give us interesting characters. I didn't see a single interesting character in the film so the slow pace didn't work for me.

Call it weird, but I saw It Follows in a theater, and despite its flaws, enjoyed it. Maybe it was that openness, but it really unsettled me. Not sure home can replicate that feeling.

Of course, everyone gets something diffent from a film. I do think there was a good idea there just not sure for me it was executed very well. I feel the same way about Lights Out and Clown. Both had such great concepts but both really poorly executed.

Both Lights Out and Clown felt like TV movies, the acting in both was subpar and the scripts lacking. In both you have characters acting really unrealistically which seems kind of silly given the concepts but the characters should still act is if what is happening is truly terrifying. In Clown we see him go after a child whose home alone and this kid isn't exactly scared he says something along the lines of "oh ****" as the Clown comes for him. It's like really? In Lights Out the characters stop been scared to delve into the mystery and much like It Follows there is a lack of consistency to the villain.

Speaking of which, did anyone here bring up the fact that he's said that he's involved in making the next one?

Yeah it's been discussed quite abit in the Halloween thread. It's really the only news we've gotten so far but it seems Blumhouse don't really know what to do with the next one. I think JC is just doing it for a pay cheque.

I disagree. I think outside of the original, Rob's H2 is the best of the series. I liked that he did something new with Michael that didn't involve cults and reality shows.

People try to say Zombie watered down Myers but he was already watered down the minute he was made to be the brother of Laurie Strode, the moment he cried in front of Jamie Lloyd, and the moment he raped that same girl (who is also his niece) to produce a baby that he was going to kill. Oh and the moment Busta Rhymes karate kicked him out that window.

The remake is by no means perfect and neither is the sequel, but they're far superior when compared to about half the series.

But, different strokes of course.

Any fans of Creepshow 2 here? I know it's inferior to the original but it's a cult classic and I think the films issues (which come down to budget) are a part of its charm.

I watch it at least once a year. remember the "thanks for the ride lady" guy? he's in the opening story in 'Tales from the Hood'; riding on the hood of a car. I've always thought that was funny. to be honest, I enjoy the sequel a little more; simply because I've watched Creepshow so many times.

It's been a while, but I always found it pretty close to the original. The Raft is such a good story, because its simple, but scary. And since I imagine it as some giant amoeba or something similar, it feels unlikely and yet real.

What about Silent Night, Deadly Night? Any fans?

Admittedly, I really like the first despite all of it's overly obvious flaws but the second is completely useless, especially considering literally half the film is just scenes plucked right from the first movie.
