Annabelle 2 - Teaser Trailer

Found footage needs to die.

Even in the few movies I like that include it, I see no reason why it's needed. Take the Visit (yes, M. Night Shymalan actually made a decent movie again) for example. Why is it found footage? Could we not just see it through conventional means? Does it really add anything?

It's a gimmick that has run its course.

when done right they are brilliant [REC] for example

I think the original Blair Witch Project is my favorite found footage movie followed by Rec and then Paranormal Activity

Some found footage films are good/great. So no, they do not need to die.

Or Afflicted

I put off watching Afflicted for a long time because I dislike found footage. and, lo and behold, I had trouble getting through the movie. but I had high hopes; simply because it well regarded by people on the internet. I think I'm just not the target audience. I rarely look at my phone or record anything. anectdotally (is that even a word), I did see the first Blair Witch in the theater. my friends had to wake me up, to see the ending. but we had a lot of fun visiting a supposedly haunted house/condemned building, afterwards.

You mentioned A Christmas Horror Story above. That actually turned out to be a really solid movie. The only story I didn't like is the one with the kids under the school, as it felt like a slightly Christmas-y/religious take on a ghost story and nothing really happened. The rest were all pretty good to me. Along with Krampus, I think this is going to be a holiday tradition for me.

I came away with pretty much the same feeling about it. I found the school lock-in story to be the weakest. i liked the idea of the changeling. i liked the look of the krampus. and the wraparound story was pretty creative.

The fact the Santa story was awesome was already a plus, but man, the way incorporated the wraparound actually made me really impressed. Even a film like Trick 'R Treat, one of my favorite horror films ever, pretty much resolved all it's stories in their own, with a nice end to everything that tied it all up, and yet this movie managed to actually surprised me with it's ending. Especially in horror, that's a pretty hard thing to these days.

So is The Bye Bye Man just Slenderman? Because the first bit of the trailer is pretty much exactly Slenderman with a different design.

WOW i just Seen I Saw The Devil this film was freaking amazing ,very disturbing and quite nightmarish with a very chilling finale highly recommended 9/10

Man nothing about this movie looked remotely interesting. Every scene looked like it was taken from a previous film.

It's funny every 5-10 yrs or so someone will make a horror movie with some new scares and tricks which gets me excited and then for the next 5-10 yrs there are a bunch of copy cat directors pulling the same tricks but with poor execution. I guess this could be said about most genres though.

Adam Wingard an Simon Barret, who made the new Blair Witch are remaking this.

Much of the character work in that film wouldn't be available in a conventional film. Monologues about your past trauma or feelings are ridiculous in a standard narrative but are very much the way people make video diaries and things. The under the house game of tag was very effective I. The first person POV. Very little about that film works without limiting the perspective.

It's funny how much this film made me think of other things. The Slenderman thing I mentioned of course, but the whole "Don't think about it" thing is surprisingly similar to an R.L. Stine film called The Haunting Hour. Plus most of the jump scares reminded me of other films, like the shadow in the jacket made me think of the picture in The Conjuring 2, and them getting rid of it with the light made me think of Lights Out.

love adam's work but i dont think he's the right filmmaker for the remake his strengths are in making his films very fun ,stylistic and entertaining like your next and the guest

i saw the devil is very bleak, chilling, depressing revenge horror

The Nostalgia Critic has a pretty good editorial video on the pros and cons of found footage films.

Per Slender Man, if creepypasta is going to be made into films I'd see The Elevator Ritual.

The paranormal/supernatural genre of horror is really kicking ass...I thought it would've died out years ago and slashers would've took center stage again. How very wrong I was...

Anyone gonna check out Rob Zombie's 31? Just went up on VOD today. I watched it and I enjoyed it. Wasn't great and it really felt like he was shackled by his budget. There were a few too many elements that were too derivative of his past movies, like H1KC or TDR, but it was a decent afternoon horror flick.

I'll check out 31 soon.

The $9.99 rental was a bit steep a price for me, but I really wanted to see it. Probably should have waited and spent that money on the theatrical. I really don't like VOD. Same price as a theater but I get to watch it on my small TV and use my AC instead of the cinema's.

Maybe it was the recycled elements that made me like it as much as I died. I'm very much not a fan of either of his Halloween films, or Lords of Salem, although with LoS I at least admire he tried something new. I guess 31 was simple enough that it was decent and didn't do too much new, so it kept up with my low expectations.

I think there's room for all types of horror movies, I just wish movie studios would stop forcing the latest fad on a film because it's popular. Some films don't work as found footage ideas etc.

Some interesting reactions during the screening of "Raw" at the TIFF.

Personally I can't even imagine reacting like that to a movie. I've been grossed out and even disgusted, but never physically ill.

Who doesn't like a good cannibal movie:

"When a young vegetarian undergoes a carnivorous hazing ritual at vet school, an unbidden taste for meat begins to grow in her."

I actually really do want to check it out, just haven't gotten around to it.

And I heard about the Raw reactions, doesn't surprise me. People barfed at screenings of the Exorcist and the original TCM, didn't they? I also remember one person telling me years ago a girl threw up while watching Zombie's H2. Couldn't handle the gore.

Bound to happen every once and a while. :oldrazz:

What are the odds those people who got physically ill during the screening were plants?
