The Horror Thread - Part 6

Huh, the Project Almanac director is doing Power Rangers, so maybe I'll enjoy it. :woot:

I thought the original Paranormal Activity film was decent. I can't recall any found footage I absolutely loved though. As for the spin-off film, Siren is not found footage, so take what you will if it'll be better or worse.

Oh I didn't realise it wss him (or I'd forgotten) lol

Ah well that's something, are they bringing the actress back?

Also whilst I'm on the subject of 'Amateur Night', did anyone else find it weird that the guys didn't notice her feet? Or the way her spine was rigid, or the line down her hairs, enlarged eyes, black tongue etc. That for me was the daftest part of it.

To me, found footage films are great if you watch them under the right circumstances. Kind of get a group of people together, maybe involve some beers, turn off the lights, and react together.

I wouldn't just sit down and start playing Paranormal Activity by myself during the day with the lights on. So boring.

These found footage films are more about the experience.

My problem with found footage films is that about ninety percent of them end with the camera falling over.

Well Curse of Chucky was surprisingly, pretty darn good. In fact, I'd go so far as to call it the best one since the original.

I liked 2 a bit better than Curse.

I don't just because of how freaking stupid everyone (including Chucky) is in that movie. It's one of the most blatant cases of "everyone acts like an idiot, just because the plot needs them to," that I've ever seen.

Heck Nica from Curse is far better than all of the characters in #2 combined (although Andy comes close TBF).

That's not really true. Part two was pretty well written, imo, and there aren't really any cases of the characters being overly stupid. Everything fit well together. That sounds more like part three than two.

The more I think of it, there aren't really any strong examples of the characters being idiotic solely because the plot dictated it in part two.

And it's no surprise there's going to be another sequel since COC since it got strong reviews and made a lot of money. All in all, I just hope it's as good or better than COC. As long as we stay away from Seed of Chucky territory, we're good.

What examples are there of people being overly stupid in part 2?

I actually can barely remember 2, is that the one where it ends in the toy making place and he ends up with all sorts of doll arms and such stuck to him? Or was that some ****ed up dream I had? :funny:

No, that happened. The showdown was in the Good Guys doll factory.

I love Curse  When it comes to this series my favorites (in no particular order, just listing) are 1&2, Bride and Curse. Love those four. 3 is alright nothing special but nothing horrible, Seed is pretty horrible though.

Well for one thing, Chucky has like 10 different chances to do his soul transfer thing. But chooses not to over and over again because, they plot demands that he run out of time in the end. Instead, he wastes time killing random people, waiting until Andy has left to then try and go a get him, and just messing with people for no real reason.

The whole explanation for remaking the doll is, dumb as heck.

The foster sister short-lived escape.

The whole climax.

Can you name the times when he has these chances to get Andy alone to do it uninterrupted?

What random people does he kill?

Rebuilding the doll to prove nothing was wrong with it was plausible, especially in the realm of a horror movie where we are being asked to buy a serial killer's soul being in a doll in the first place.

What do you mean foster sister short lived escape?

The climax was great. I loved it.

Thank you. Reading that post, I kept thinking "did we watch the same movie?" :funny:

In fact, I'd go as far as to say CP 2 is one of the few examples of a sequel being just as good as the original. Actually, I find the ending of part two more gratifying than the first.

I've never seen Curse of Chucky... is that worthwhile?

The last Chucky film I saw was Seed of Chucky and that film was atrocious.

Yes, it's definitely worthwhile. Returns the series to where it needs to be: suspenseful, brings the story full circle by tying up loose ends from part one, etc.

I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

Yes, they are bringing the actress back. Just double checked, and yep, so it may be good.

You know, i've been on an 80's horror kick lately and I'm in the middle of watching Re-Animator. I've never seen this movie before and hadn't even heard about it until recently. This movie is a freaking blast man.

What was it about the 80's that they produced such consistently good material?

Are there any good horror movies to check out on Netflix?

A lot of people suggested The Babadook, and I hated it. It was not scary, and the annoying kid in the film was more horrifying than the monster.

It's definitely worthwhile. Takes Chucky back to his scary roots.

You seen Hush yet? It's more of a thriller but its really good

I did see Hush. More of a thriller for sure, but entertaining. I still find myself scrolling through the horror category being unable to find something.

The Invitation was pretty good. Not sure I'd classify it as horror either, but it has a very unsettling tone and it's pretty good overall.

We Are Still Here is a pretty good haunted house film, and it's short at about 75 minutes.

Candyman: Farewell to Flesh is actually a pretty good sequel.

Troll Hunter is a great found footage film, it's Norwegian so be prepared to read subtitles.

Deathgasm is awesome if you're a fan of heavy metal.
