The Horror Thread - Part 7

Thanks to HBO Max, I'm watching through the Leprechaun series, which I haven't seen before.

I'd like to know how this franchise made it to 8 movies. I mean, the first movie was passable entertainment, but it's all been going downhill from there. How and why did they keep making these? Was there actually a fanbase for these movies in the 90s?

Also there's like no continuity between the movies. The titular leprechaun got properly killed at the end of both 2 and 3, yet he's brought back at the beginning of the next movie with no explanation of how he survived.

Btw Leprechaun 4 is such a shameful rip-off of Aliens. :o

It were the 90s and slasher movies where pretty popular...especially when they did silly stuff.
But yeah, that this got so many is beyond my understanding.
I could understand 3 maybe 4...but 8? Jesus.

I mean the idea of it is not the worst, but the execution most of the time was more trashy than anything else.
Maybe thats the fun in it, being a over the top trashy slasher...a bit like sharknado or so.

The later Leprechaun films are not supposed to really be taken seriously. Seems fairly obvious to me anyway. They’re just over the top. So bad that they’re good kinda thing. Super dumb fun you can laugh at and enjoy. I’m in it for the creative kills and Warwick’s performance

I'm not often swayed by modern horror films, but some I pleasantly enjoyed recently include Anything For Jackson (on Shudder) and Possessor, directed by Cronenberg's son.

So,I'm sure I'm biased, but the 80's is probably tied with the 1930's as the most influential decade of horror.

A cheap plug...but its for a good cause and I've been a member here a long time...so, I'm not a random spammer...

A little over a year ago I almost killed myself. I got treatment and have dedicated myself to helping others like me. I'm now running an official 501c3 mental health nonprofit for horror and sci fi fans!

Our 2021 convention initiative is Horror Heals: A Tribute to Child's Play's John Lafia. We'll pay tribute to Chucky's co-creator (and the director of Child's Play 2)...with the blessing of his family and help from some of the celebs he worked with! We'll also have a psychologist who will blend a discussion of our favorite Horror movies with evidence-based treatment concepts. And, we'll have a vendor table with local (in each city) mental health resource info for anyone in need.

In addition, we'll be doing HEROES ASSEMBLE, a local (in Virginia) initiative where superheroes and sci-fi characters will visit geeky kids who are in the hospital or otherwise getting treatment for life-threatening illnesses (and yes, we're handling this with approval and following COVID safety protocols). And of course...the heroes will bring geeky toys and comics for the kids as well to help brighten what may be a traumatic time in their lives.

So...if you can donate...please help us out. I've spent THOUSANDS of my own dollars on getting the ball rolling so every little bit helps. Even if you can't, it'd be appreciated if you shared the link on your social media etc.

I saw the movie The Stylist, which is coming out in March.

It's about a lonely, socially anxious hairdresser who...when she gets a one off client...will drug and scalp them in order to wear their hair and "become" them briefly in an attempt to escape her own mind. When a regular customer actually reaches out to involve her in her life etc...things get real obsessive.

I REALLY enjoyed this.I'm a big fan of the star, Najarra Townsend. The movie is an extension of a short from the same writer/director and star that came out a few years ago...so check that out if you haven't.

I just saw the new Wrong Turn and I liked it quite a bit. Almost nothing to do with the original Wrong Turn though. They could've easily called it something else. But as far as 'horror in the woods' go, it was actually good.

I dont think I posted about this when I watched it...but Psycho Gorman is a lot of fun. It's kind of like if Power Rangers was done by Gwar or Troma. It did start to drag for me near the end...I was ready for it to end before the final fight even started...but I'd recomend watching it. It's kind of a riot.

You can count the number of good space horror films not called Alien on one hand so I get the love for Event Horizon.

Anyone seen Russian body horror film Superdeep?
A small research team went down below the surface to find out what secret the world's deepest borehole was hiding. What they have found turned out to be the greatest threat in history. And the future of humanity is in their hands.
The film is like a combination of John Carpenter's The Thing, nineties comic book movie Virus, Resident Evil and Annihilation.

This is the second Ted Bundy film we’re getting this year! When will it stop?

This 2020 movie released on Shutter with a Tomato rating over 90% looks like a return to form horror wise reminiscent of Night of the Living Dead or Pet Cemetary:

Edit: It's a re-make of this Asian film I beleive:

Another recent film I found while browsing online that seems like a fantasy that may or may not be good I'm going to rent:
