it would be a to big risk to film all movies before the first one is realesed.

It worked for Lord of the Rings. But Catching Fire and Mockingjay should have a similar shooting schedule to the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels.

Yes and that was a huge risk and The Hunger Games is not Lord of the Rings.

but why risk it? with LOTR they had expensive sets and all the cgi. with Hunger games they dont need it. they dont need to rush the movie.

is'nt mockinjay kind of bad i have heard so many fans say they hated mockinjay and hated the ending

And LOTR's are old books that are classics....something The Hunger Games books are not.

I heard its the most divisive out of the books but just not sure to what extent. Same situation for the last Twilight book but that hasn't effected anything.

I was just about to write this post. If the audience loves the series they will stick around even for a disappointing ending.

For all the crazed Twilight haters:

No I'm not saying the books are alike I'm comparing it because it appeals to a similar audience and it's the hot teen book series of the moment. Don't take it so literally when people compare the two book series.

Jennifer Lawrence is like the perfect casting for me. I actually imagined a dark haired version of the character she plays in Winter's Bone when I read the book. :)

She's both cute and badass. And most of all a great actress. The scene in the teaser when she fires the bow, the expression on her face is perfect. Especially since we all know what that scene probably is...

It's pretty much a guarantee the first Hunger Game film will be a success at this point. It's gotten so much publicity riding the Potter/Twilight wave that came before as the next big thing in the book to film translation people will see it just to find out what the big fuss is about.

It won't end up a failure like some of the other adaptation's (Eragon, Percy Jackson, Golden Compass) but if people are disappointed by the first film it could go the way of the Narnia films which started big but couldn't keep peoples interest.

Agreed. It's super important that the audience likes the film or it's going to be a one movie wonder.

Rated PG-13 "for intense violent thematic material and disturbing images - all involving teens."

3 weeks to go. i think i will stop watching tv spots and footage. i saw enough to buy a ticket

On the Hunger Games Facebook Collins wrote a review of the movie praising the films saying that it added another dimension of the story while stayig true to the book.

Not really. Many authors hate the movies based on their books. King has stated he hates the Shinning and the guy who wrote Percy Jackson won't even see the movie. In fact I think the majority of authors hate the film adaptations.

Yeah, but have they ever badmouthed a movie based on their book before its release? The truth normally comes out afterwards. Not saying I think this movie will be bad, but I'm not surprised that she's praising it.

Exactly. I'm no Twilight fan, but it's got an undeniably huge fanbase, and you want that type of crowd to be into this series (and hopefully, prefer it). It's a good thing that it's appealing to the Twilight crowd, that's huge business right there.

Absolutely nothing is being revealed in the trailers, and I literally mean that, so watch away, it doesn't matter.

Well, she was one of two writers on the screenplay and has final approval on a number of things concerning the film, I think.

Here's the full letter from Suzanne Collins:

http://www.dailyblam.com/news/2012/...e-collins-offers-praise-for-the-upcoming-film

Dear Readers,

I’ve just had the opportunity to see the finished film of The Hunger Games. I’m really happy with how it turned out. I feel like the book and the film are individual yet complementary pieces that enhance one another. The film opens up the world beyond Katniss’ point of view, allowing the audience access to the happenings of places like the Hunger Games control room and President Snow’s rose garden, thereby adding a new dimension to the story.

Director Gary Ross has created an adaptation that is faithful in both narrative and theme, but he’s also brought a rich and powerful vision of Panem, its brutality and excesses, to the film as well. His world building’s fantastic, whether it be the Seam or the Capitol. It’s amazing to see things that are suggested in the book fully developed and so brilliantly realized through the artistry of the designers.

And, my God, the actors. The cast, led by the extraordinary Jennifer Lawrence, is absolutely wonderful across the board. It’s such a pleasure to see how they’ve embodied the characters and brought them to life.

So I’d like to sincerely thank all the many people who devoted their time and talents to the film, especially producers Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik, and the excellent teams at Color Force, Larger Than Life, and Lionsgate.

I hope you enjoy the film!

Suzanne Collins

I don't understand how you can say the marketing for this film has been bad but the marketing of John Carter hasn't?

That's just the opposite of reality. Games is posed to open with 60+mil if all goes well give or take 5 mil. Carter will be lucky to do Tron: Legacy's 44mil with such a horrible campaign.

I think that The Hunger Games marketing has been pretty good, not groundbreaking but pretty good.

This being sold in a more friendly-family way is quite evident. I mean if they mention that these kids need to kill each other in a survival game, will turn off quite a bit of people. Somewhat similar to Hit Girl in Kick-Ass but not really since these guys appear so much older. Even the comedy/parody like tone of Kick-Ass didn't make a difference.

I was talking to a friend last night - she has three kids, ages 4, 6, and 8. Her 8-year-old is just finishing up the Harry Potter books (and he started them in January :wow: ), and she was looking for another book series for him to start.

So we were going through books like The Hobbit and the Narnia books, but I said he was probably a little too young for Hunger Games.

Her reaction: "He's definitely not reading those yet. Have you seen those commercials? They scared the hell out of me..."

And she had never heard of Hunger Games before she saw the ads - I had to explain the story to her last night. She said it was the stuff with the little girl "being picked for something" and that someone had to carry her off screaming that bothered her.

She definitely knew it wasn't for kids as young as hers, though.
