The Hunger Games

I just don't think ppl should say this movie won't be any good because "the violence will be dumbed down for American audiences". I never found the first book overly violent in the first place.

And it's unfair that all these Battle Royal comparisons are trying to discredit the Hunger Games. I guess because Star Wars and Star Trek both take place in space they're both the same story.

I think the Battle Royal comparison are fair but I don't need to see blood spraying across the screen for me to enjoy this. This is obviously not going to go as far as that film, it should be expected they'll shy away from showing some things. There's ways to do it without being overly gratuitous and if the story is good, then it shouldn't matter.

Not I. I thought Jennifer Lawrence was terrific. Definitely has the ability to play a character of this weight.

Some are complaining about her age, but in reality, I feel that circumstances should have made her more mature (emotionally at least), and there are definitely teenagers who look as grown up as she. So that's not really an issue for me.

She did strike me as a lot more mature looking/sounding than Peeta, but we'll wait to see how it looks in the film.

Sorry I should have been more specific. The character not the actress. I don't know much about the actress, but she looks the part.

In the trailer we didn't see enough to be annoyed, not that I would have, are you talking about the book?

Katniss in general strikes me as kind of overly-mature, slightly bitter/sullen, chip-on-her shoulder type, which could certainly strike some as annoying. The fact is that she's reluctant about a lot of the stuff that happens to her-- she didn't want any of it. I would be peeved, also perhaps annoying.

Katniss annoyed me at times throughout the trilogy. Overall, I liked her a lot but there are times where she becomes very annoying.

Since I haven't read the books, can you guys tell me what this scene is supposed to be happening?

You can put it in spoiler tag.

I think she was so wrong about what she thought about things a lot of the time, that it made her a little hard to take sometimes. She would just get all worked up and determined about something she wound up not knowing as well as she thought she did.

I never thought she was flat-out annoying, though. Just young and stubborn.

She could be annoying at times I just tried to understand her situation.

Yeah that has been bothering me, what violence are people expecting? Sure it is violent AT TIMES but overall it is not that bad. It's the idea that these are Children, though some are clearly teens in the book, killing each other for the amusement of the ones that have enslaved them in the districts. This is a story about overcoming all odds and proving that human will and determination will prevent souls from being crushed.

Agreed. The books weren't about the violence. Yes, it was brutal, shockingly so at times...but I would put what we see in the books about at more of an Indiana Jones-movie violence level then say, a Zack Snyder movie violence level.

Is Effie Trinket supposed to look like a Tim Burton character? Because what little I've read hasn't made her seem that way.

Before the tributes are presented to the Capitol, they must be primped, plucked, and transformed so that they look as fabulous as possible in order to get as many sponsors as they can. It's a pretty awful scene in the book, like part of Katniss' humanity is being taken from her

only just saw the trailer, i've never read the books, but i want to see this

Thanks! No wonder I saw someone was combing Katniss' hair, like in a beauty salon.

In the book she has pink hair and wears a green suit. But the fashion in the Capitol is sorta like Tim Burton and other crazy things. Stanley Tucci's character has blue hair.

Both-ish. In the first, District 12 does it to her after the reaping. Then District 11 (Whatever Rue's is) does it to her in the second. She does it in the first but we don't see the people do it back because she's in the games. I guess in the film we do.

i'm actually hoping, per something Babs said, that we see District 11 give the salute, but Katniss doesnt. I hope like she said, that we'll actually get to see how the districts view/see the Games

That was one thing I thought the books were missing to be honest.

Yeah thats what I've been trying to say from the beginning, there isn't much violence and there isn't much action. It's all about the intense chase, its definitely more of a thriller than it is an action movie. When the action hits, its very fast. Many of the kills happen offscreen as well which may bum some people out but its a character story that is all about Katniss and Peeta.

the second and third books have much more violence in them than the first imo

i mean
11 people die on day 1 of the Games, i kinda expect a rapid violent scene to shock us all

that's how i felt about Harry Potter too

i hope they have the scene where
Peeta explains the little things about breads and stuff so when Katniss receives the donation from district 11, she's able to realize who she is getting it from and what it means. that will be a poignant important scene for the rest of the trilogy if done right. may seem small but it is the stepping stone to the revolution imo

Perhaps it was just my state of mind at the time, or the fact that I really didn't care about the love triangle that caused me to lose patience with her. I know the books are from her perspective, and having the triangle added depth, but honestly I was much more interested in what was happening around her, and listening to her whine constantly about Peta and Gail started to grate on me.

Haha yeah that was grating on my boyfriend too when he read it.

I figure being inside most teenage girls heads might be grating. I'm not sure that annoyingness will come through when we don't get to hear her every though :)

In the movie Battle Royale, there were alot of shocking things happening that made you shake your head, so I hope this movie will have the guts to show them as well.

Me too . I really dont want this to be like twilight and more like harry potter.

Rue is going to be so hard to pull off and I hope they dont go all watered down on us and show her death off camera. I wish they would have shown more in the trailer tho.
