The Huntsman: Winter's War

Well it's more or less because you need either a popular character/franchise or a popular actress to sell a movie. WW is an iconic character and Rey is linked to SW so they don't need a A-lister. The character/film will sell itself. Whereas for stuff like this one, they need a big/popular character to sell the film. With them taking out Snow White, there's really no popular character to sell the movie so they need to get A-listers.

What do you mean? They have Elsa. :o

Yeah, I know... but its still just disappointing. As hyped as I am for Star Wars and BvS/Wonder Woman, I'd be even more stoked if we had Emily Blunt or Jessica Chastain in those films.

Conversely, the combo of Chastain, Blunt and Theron still isn't enough to make me buy a ticket for this.

Well first of all, people are making the assumption that this will be "crap." Which we don't know yet. Second, people are acting shocked, SHOCKED that big name actors/actress sometimes take paycheck roles, or just want to have fun in a goofy genre film. Hint, it's not at all uncommon, and it's been going for a long time. How many times have we seen Sir Michael Caine, or Gary Oldman, or Liam Neeson, or Morgan Freeman, or Sir Ben Kingsley, etc turn up in awful movies, quite a bit actually.

Heck "having fun in a goofy genre film" would probably be why many of the big name actors who pop up in Marvel/DC films agree to do them.

Fanboys want unknowns in beloved franchises, and couldn't give two ****s if well known people are cast in stuff that's just original properties. That is how our brains work as of late. I'm starting to see Jackman more as Jackman and less as Wolverine these days for that reason.

I think we have to remember not to lose sight of the fact men and women are different in many ways, we are often wired quite differently. For instance girls dance together, they are very tactile with each other when out, they do each others hair and nails, we as guys simply don't have that kind of intimacy with our buddies, just like how if a girl throws on jeans and her guys hockey jersey it's not unusual, however most guys are not gonna suddenly wear items of her girlier clothing.

I disagree there, to me actor or actress, when you are paid millions to lead a huge picture part of the job is to promote that film, it's why someone like Joaquin Phoenix wont be hit up for a lead in an expensive blockbuster anytime soon, social skills are part of being a big name on the poster star IMO.

I mean sure we are in some aspects but I think there are a number of surprising things that we just make up as concepts and don't really think about. I think we're a lot similar than we seem to put ourselves into at times. I do think those things are taught in some way. We could sit here and talk about the finer intricacies of who wears what and why, but it also just comes down to the individual and their interests too. I can't speak for every guy but I'll admit, women's clothes are sometimes cooler than men's clothes (designs and patterns and styles) and I kind of wish we had things that were more tailored from them for us. Not everything, but we should just be free to wear what we want and not worry how we'll be seen by others.

I think as long as they aren't being an ******* or making people uncomfortable in a negative or harmful way it really shouldn't be that big of a deal. Stewart I haven't seen in much interviews because I have no interest but I just hear she's more quiet and awkward. I just don't like the idea of putting on a fake face to appease people for the sake of promoting something. I get you need to promote and I'm not saying be half awake and stand offish, it's just even more disingenuous to appear as something else.

They should have called this THE HUNTSMAN AND WHITE SNOW.

My disappointment is that it seems very few people are raising this issue. I've seen essays written all throughout the web about MCU's diversity problem or whatever. This seems to be a major talking point these days.

This is a very valid example of a choice for a franchise that is not very progressive. And no one is saying a peep except some posters at the Hype.
Honestly, I think it's just because nobody cares enough about this "franchise" to complain about it. People actually care about the MCU and the choices they make regarding it.

Just in the trailer tease, Charlize looks more amazing than she did in the first one.

I also notice that Universal is playing up the 'producer of Maleficent' angle on this second set of posters and teaser trailer. Maybe it is more female-centric and Hemsworth's character plays second fiddle to Chastain, Theron and Blunt?

I hope this receives a mediocre response at the box office but does well on DVD so that the studio greenlights a direct-to-video sequel starring Liam Hemsworth.

I have to ask this again. Losing Kristen Stewart and gaining Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain? How is that a bad thing?

I don't know. It seems like much ado about nothing to me, at least in regards to this film.

I mean, yeah, I'll agree that the aftermath of the whole Rupert Sanders/Kristen Stewart thing is shady, but it's not like Universal decided to drop her and funnel all their money into a movie starring Hemsworth and some actress/former supermodel with two credits to her name. They're surrounding him with some substantial actresses here. And from the looks of it, they've been given equal/larger roles than Hemsworth.

I'm not gonna say there's not a woman problem in Hollywood, because there clearly is, but I just don't think this film is the colossal problem everyone seems to be making it out to be.

Catwoman, Captain Marvel and Mera in the same movie. This is amazing.

I find that very prejudicial. But it annoys me that the people who are raising this issue are not targeting this at all when it is a case that is completely valid.

Maybe, but that's the way people work - we expect crap to be crap and make crap choices, and don't look twice at it for doing so because it's expected. The first movie never gave us a reason to care about it at all (and no one asked for this sequel), so nobody's even paying attention now. But people expect better of the things they actually care about and want to enjoy, hence the constant scrutiny of the MCU/DCEU.

Decent-ish trailer.

Charlize looks like she had a blast on this.

Waiting for the inevitable porn parody, The Huntsman: Winter ****e.

It writes itself, really.

Sorry Thor. Totally Team Sisters here. :hrt: Charlize and Blunt look like they had so much fun trolling in the movie. :awesome:
