Stewart & Mortenson Joining Snow White?

Source: Variety
January 26, 2011

Viggo Mortensen looks likely to sign on for Snow White and the Huntsman opposite Charlize Theron, Variety reports.

The film, designed as a new take on the classic fairy tale, will feature an expanded role for the part of the Huntsman. In the Brothers Grimm version, he is ordered to take Snow White into the woods and kill her, but instead lets her go. In the new take, the Huntsman is not a love interest but, instead, serves as a mentor, teaching Snow White (who currently remains uncast) to fight and survive against the evil queen (Theron).

Snow White and the Huntsman should enter production soon with a release date of December 21, 2012.

UPDATE: Heat Vision adds that "The Twilight Star" Kristen Stewart is being courted for the role of Snow White.

Surprised there wasn't already a thread on this, I think it sounds a potentially cool take on the classic fairytale.

Kristen Stewart for Snow White? :(

Emily Browning auditioned. Poor Emily. POUTY LIPS FOR THE WIN>

Browning probably got a better role somewhere else.

There's a part of me who is interested due to Charlize and Viggo's casting. Heck, I like Kirsten Stewart as an actress too. But I don't know..the director is BRAND new. He's done the Halo commercials which was awesome but usually it's hard to gauge first time directors. Some make it big and continue to live the Hollywood dream, some do not.

There's another Snow White project in the works, but usually in a case like this (and with the various 'OZ' projects out there) the first one that gets greenlit will pretty much destroy the chances of the other competing films getting made.

Kristen Stewart for Snow White? :(

It was sounding really cool up until that point. It's still an interesting premise. I wonder if they are going to leave out the dwarves

Im pretty sure aside from the Twilight movies, Kristen Stewart isnt much of a draw.

If the studio is thinking that she could bring in an audience then I dont think its gonna work out too well for them.

Does that mean Viggo is doing Zod for Superman?!

Viggo to Studio - Fire Kristen Stewart or I walk

Studio - Your fired

Viggo - I Walk

Does that mean Viggo is doing Zod for Superman?!

Viggo Mortensen Talks Break Down for ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ (Exclusive)

Looks like Snow White needs to go on the hunt for another Huntsman—at least for now.

Viggo Mortensen, who has been in protracted negotiations for the part in Universal’s high-flying Snow White and the Huntsman picture, has fallen out of talks to join the project.

The movie is one of several Snow White projects in active development—and, with star Kristen Stewart and other cast members locked, the one furthest out of the gate.

Commercials helmer Rupert Sanders is making his directorial debut on the Joe Roth-produced pic, which has Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen.

Negotiations with Mortensen have been contentious since the beginning, with insiders claiming the actor asked for $8 million as well as gross participation. The two sides were so far apart that the dealmaking collapsed at one point, allowing the actor to flirt with playing the villain role in Warner Bros’ new Superman movie.

Talks resumed, but sources now say the deal frayed away overnight. Insiders don’t know if the latest development is a death knell for Mortensen’s involvement or simply a negotiating tactic. But as of now, Universal is moving on.

The project amps up the action quotient from the fairy tale and plays up the relationship between White and the Huntsman. In the new scenario, when she is banished and on the run by the evil queen, the Huntsman takes her under his wing to protect her, and she becomes his protege, learning how to fight and defend herself.

I just hope this is nothing like Red Riding Hood.

After seeing Kristen in the Runaways, I kinda dig her as an actress. Definitely better than her boyfriend.

Chris Hemsworth Up for 'Snow White and the Huntsman'

Talk about striking while the hammer is hot! After weeks of seeking an A-list male lead for "Snow White and the Huntsman," Universal is zeroing in on Chris Hemsworth, the God of Thunder himself in this coming weekend's "Thor," Variety's Justin Kroll (@krolljvar) exclusively reports. Hemsworth is the current frontrunner to take the role opposite Kristen Stewart, who for two months has been locked to play the iconic fairy tale character, along with Charleze Theron as the evil queen. There are major issues to be worked out with Hemsworth's shooting schedule on "Marvel's The Avengers," and no official offer is on the table just yet, but nabbing Hemsworth now -- just days before "Thor" premieres in the U.S. -- would be a coup for the Universal project, which comes out Dec. 21, 2012.

Hemsworth should defintiely stay away from this. Plus it's just hilarious to keep seeing actors passing this role, Universal just can't secure an actor for the part. :funny:

Not only that, but Singh's Snow White project will surely kick this ass.

Sam Clafin Cast as the Prince in 'Snow White and the Huntsman'

Universal Pictures is setting Sam Claflin to play the role of the prince in Snow White and the Huntsman, the Rupert Sanders-directed re-imagining of the fairy tale that stars Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the evil queen.

Claflin just starred in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and he has just been offered the title role opposite Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore in the Warner Bros/Legendary supernatural thriller The Seventh Son.

Meh, Armie Hammer is a much better casting choice as the prince than Clafin. Though maybe that's not fair since I haven't seen him in anything. :oldrazz:

Yeah, Clafin is a much better choice than Hammer.

But I just wrote that Hammer is way more talented than this Calfin guy and a much better fit as the prince.

I'm so glad that Singh got Hammer for his Snow White project.

Yeah, I heard he was pretty good in that. I'm probably going to watch that later.

Mighty Thor's Chris Hemsworth Closes 'Huntsman' Role In Universal's Snow White Saga

EXCLUSIVE: Now that 'Thor' opened strongly around the world, its star Chris Hemsworth is one hot Aussie hunk. He's just closed a deal for the good guy role as the Huntsman opposite Twilight Saga starlet Kristen Stewart as Snow White in Snow White And The Huntsman which is Universal's version of the fairy tale that also stars Charlize Theron. Rupert Sanders is directing. Newcomer Hemsworth and his good looks allowed for heavy PR to drum up appeal for Thor among women with his shirtless clip a popular choice for talk shows with large female audiences. He's repped by WME and ROAR management partner and co-founder William Ward who talent-spotted Chris during one of the manager's many scouting trips to Australia. Ward brought him to Los Angeles and really put him out there to casting directors and production executives. Chris read for the part of Thor but wasn't given a test because a casting director had nixed him early on. Chris' younger brother Liam (who's also a ROAR client) then tested for the role of Thor, but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige passed. Then, after a conversation with Ward ("You've got to reconsider Chris, he's your guy"), Feige decided to let Chris read again. And once Marvel put him on tape, it was "Oh my god". Hemsworth is in Joss Whedon's UA-orphaned Cabin In The Woods which just got picked up by Lionsgate, is the lead in that Red Dawn remake, and played "George Kirk" in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot. Down under, he played "Kim Hyde" on 171 episodes of Home and Away, the successful Oz TV series where Heath Ledger started.
