The Hype TV Club Discussion Thread

Just a heads up. Firefly and Buffy are expiring on Netflix April 1. They probably will work out something by then so that it'll be on there, but if anyone joins the Hype TV Club without Netflix or Amazon Prime access then you can always ask the man with the hyphen for a hook up. I'll provide you with some good, legal sources besides Hulu. Hopefully they fix it by the time we inevitably get to Buffy. I'm too lazy to do anything besides Netflixing.

Dutch Netflix has the first season of Bates Motel up, so that's how I'll be watching the first couple episodes before I'll have an opportunity to purchase the DVDs.

Despite the joke on Toonth earlier I think that this show could be a good display of why we started this tv watching thing together. Bates Motel is a show that's said to be really good by many people. I haven't been interested in it, but it could be something that I really enjoy. Having it picked at random from a tv show list that a friend suggested gives me a reason to watch it and experience it. If the show if good then I'll have a new show to watch since season 3 is going on right now. If it doesn't then I'll at least know I hate it, and after only ten episodes I'll move on to Daredevil since that lines up perfectly. These ones with ten episode seasons really give us a good chance to move on perfectly to whatever we want. Firefly's short season has allowed me to go back and finish up Fringe.

I was just checking out the forum the other day to see if there was a new TV Club show for this month. Won't be able to join for a while because of technological complications but I 'm still on board and will catch up once I get my stuff sorted out.

So the show for May is Hemlock Grove, eh? Hadn't heard of that one until now. I'll purchase the DVD of season one and watch it once I'll get a new player. So I'll sit this thread out and join the June TV Club later on. Happy viewing, guys!

Wooo Nikita! Underrated gem, imo. But it does take a while to get going, as I recall. It wasn't one of those "hook me right away" shows, but once it did, those hooks were never coming out. Thankfully, it never tanked like Alias, so that wasn't a bad thing.

So with Nikita two of my shows have been picked along with Fringe earlier. Two of Toonth's shows have been picked, and two of CC's shows have been picked so far. Hopefully at the end of the year this same type of balance keeps up.

It's been six months since we've done this thing, and I figure I'd just rank the shows in terms of my personal favorites so far.

1. Nikita
2. Bates Motel
3. Fringe
4. Firefly
5. Game of Thrones
6. Hemlock Grove

The only real hard one for me is Firefly vs. Fringe. Fringe has two great early seasons, a good third season, and then seasons four and five ran out of steam. Firefly on the other hand never got that chance. So it's basically one good season vs. three. I picked Fringe though because at it's best in the early seasons I liked it better than Firefly.

So far there are only two shows that I didn't like. Hopefully the next six months goes as well. Nikita is one of my all time favorite shows, and Bates Motel is a really good watch that I know will have a definitive ending in the next two years. I'm hoping that we get Buffy, Farscape, Person of Interest, Twin Peaks, Warehouse 13, and Hannibal for the rest of the year.
