The Hype's Ask a Black Dude!

Why whenever a famous black person says something about black the community is he or she taken suddenly as the spokes person for the entire black race like we have a collective hive mind and are not all individuals.

I don't see it happen for asians or mexicans but if its a black person people are like "It must be true because he or she speaks forr all black people".

As a white person, I may be qualified to answer this, c-m. It's because people are stupid, by and large. It's sad to realize, but the vast majority of our populace will believe whatever the media tells them to, are horribly naive about people of other races, have terrible taste in clothes, music, art, furniture, cars, food and generally every other facet of culture. They aren't intelligent enough to understand that everyone is an individual and should be understood and judged by their individual merits as a person; the fact that most people spend the lion's share of their lives trying to conform and fit in with everyone else makes the grasp of individualism that much further from their fingertips. This is not a racial phenomenon; people of all races, religions, sexual preferences and creeds have stupid people among them, often in overwhelming numbers. There is a reason the term "lowest common denominator" exists, after all. So, when someone from the lowest common denominator of one race says something stupid, the members of the lowest common denominator class of another race jump on it and immediately generalize it and take it to mean that what that person said applies to all people of their race. They do it because they are stupid.

Well said, sir. I hate conformists; why can't everyone feel that way?! :)

C-M: I ask you the same question that I had in my previous post.

Why must you stake claim in everyone who's even partially black?

why affirmative action?
I once didn't get a job because I was white.
do you think the time has come to end this??

I mean it looks to me the next president is going to be black and I'm voting for him.

because he's the best for the job,... not because he's black.

how come black people call people lil whiteboys to take the piss out of them

How come you guys don't like Hockey?
I played street hockey when I was a kid. Black people don't like the cold , have you not seen cool runnings :cwink:

I think one of the big reasons it's so difficult to start a dialog about race in this country is because interaction between white and black has become so politicized. I'm sure many African-Americans here can understand what I mean: the careful construction of character that so many blacks feel forced to put up to appease to the other side, the difficultly in attaining legitimacy without seeming "whiny", and so on and so forth.

As a white man, I think it's difficult too. Most whites, when trying to start a dialog, come off as tokenizing, or assimilationist. Others try to ignore the problem, hoping that by not acknowledging race, racism will be defeated. This, of course, encourages white apathy.

For a lot of whites, it seems impossible to reach out since every act comes attached with a political subtext. I have friends who are black, but heaven help me if I ever think of them my black friends.

So given this, how do you think whites can best reach out?
I'm not American so can't really judge african american relations. Politcal correctness is a bit crazy. I think most people can use common sense to tell when they are being offensive or not although some people are a tad over sensitive.

I think people tend to get to caught up in race aspects of people a little. Being black is a part of who you are but not all your about. We are people and not a completely different species.

I personally would hate to be treated differently because of my race. Having people tip toe around you in fear of offending you is not an ideal situation.

Dave Chappelle draft
Seriously though, If someone has black in them then society will generally see them as black e.g Barack Obama, Halle Berry, ect. Thus they are usually identified with the black community.

If they can pass for white like Wentworth Miller, Rashida jones, ect they tend to not be.

if you had to choose , who would you save, samuel L jackson or wesley snipes

Why are many black men so unmotivated when it comes to furthuring education?

Why do black people like menthol cigarettes?

Is there some rule that if you're young and black you automatically have to like hip hop/rap?

How DARE you insult Hammer like that. At least EVERYONE could stomach more than ONE MC Hammer song.

I think it would be Samuel personally. I know I'd vote for Samuel. Maybe we'd have them duel in a Samuel as Mace Windu, Snipes as Blade battle :)... kinda white of me to say that but oh well

Why are many black men so unmotivated when it comes to furthuring education?

Because those that are unmotivated believe that they can make a life without out. I'm kind inbetween that phase now because I dont want to come back to my current university next year. But in the end we'll all come to the realization that we could have made it farther if we had tried the first time. Some black men just dont have the means to further it, so they say **** it.

Why would money for reparations be fair?

What are you going to do with that tax refund when you get it? Same thing. Varies, I think most people are going to buy new swanky homes, clothes, and try to either give back to the community, or leave the community, or stay, buy some status and show it off in the community. Me personally, depending on how much I would receive, I'd leave to Arizona.

So, is it the shoes or what???

Its the genetics I hear.

Dear Black Dude, Why don't you like "returning the favor" after a female is done "providing the favor"?
