The Avengers The "I Believe In Mark Ruffalo!" Support Thread

For those who have followed with the recent interpretations of this, does anyone know why Nick Fury would allow someone as unpredictable, let alone, uncontrollable as the Hulk be a part of the Avengers team when he could provide to be more harmful than helpful if he loses himself in his own rage?

Which has gotten me to wondering, that if Nick Fury wants to recruit the Hulk persona for the group, what makes him think that the Hulk would be more useful than disastrous given the mess that it's made prior to its fight with the abomination?

This is a great question and I've definitely thought about it before.
Here's how I see it.....I highly doubt Fury will say, "Call the Hulk, I'd like to invite him down for a chat to discuss options." My assumption has been that Hulk will show up in the midst of battle and a choice will be made. He'll choose to fight on the side of the heroes and earn instant cred as an "Avenger". I mean it's not like Fury's going to walk up and say, "Absolutely not, get Hulk out of here...he's not welcome."

Well we know that SHIELD/Fury is obviously aware of the Hulk's presence, and have been keeping an eye on his movements.

The question as to what purpose and intent does Fury have for Bruce Banner/Hulk is still a mystery at this point though.

The way I see it, Iron Man, CA, Hawkeye, and BW are probably the only avengers that Fury had intended from the ending of IM1 to be a part of the Avengers.

Thor and Hulk will probably be something that he ends up contemplating about as the HUGE threat reveals itself in the Avengers.

Tony Stark's appearance at the end of The Incredible Hulk seems to indicate that they already are considering Hulk for the team...or maybe when he says "We're putting a team together" he means they are thinking about using the team to track Hulk down. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

He did stop the Abomination afterall. As Banner put in the film, if he can 'aim' the Hulk, he's a much better weapon for SHIELD than Ross's attempt to make supersoldiers.

I doubt he would go to Ross if he were talking about adding the Hulk to that team. Ross is somebody who's devoted his career tot racking down banner and killing him.

That'd be like Reed Richards calmly approaching J. Jonah Jameson and saying "Hey, so you know that Spider-Man guy? I think I'm gonna hang out with him this weekend and talk to him about joining the Fantastic Four. How do you feel about that?"

I think the team means the Avengers when he tells Ross. But that leads to the question why would he be telling Ross this? Ross wants to take Hulk himself.

I don't know. I think Ross somewhat gave up hunting Banner and Hulk at the end of the film. It seemed pretty evident/clear for me when Ross lowered one of his soldiers guns from aiming at the Hulk after it had defeated the Abomination.

MAYBE.... Shield wants to get their hands on Banner to recruit his mind... and the Hulk showing up in the Avengers is because Banner was with Shield and made the conscious decision to "aim" the Hulk at the villians.

thats pretty much what i was thinking. Banner may be considered as a valuable teammate because of his science skills and the Hulk is just an added, kind of uncontroleable bonus. lol.

That sounds like a good idea. I always assumed it was because he could turn into the Hulk and they needed his strength. But Banner and his science skills is also a good reason. Plus maybe they want to get to him before a potential enemy or Ross can.

I like the sound of that. Would work well, IMO.

I think it's presumptuous to know exactly what shield's intentions are regarding the hulk but as indicated in TIH and IM2, shield are very much keeping an eye on him and rightfully so. Hulk is a freak of nature that Shield would be crazy to not monitor or keep tabs on.

thats why were speculating Ajendo. cus its fun! anyways Hulks outbursts seem to be pretty public. id imagine the whole world knows he exists after the fight with Abomination.

Assuming of course that one of the Final Scenes for CA:TFA features Steve walking around in Modern day New York, I wonder if they'll actually reference on the fact that the Hulk and Abomination had nearly leveled the city while fighting each other. I doubt that MUCH TIME would have passed between the fight and Steve waking up to walk in New York to the point where people could have reconstructed everything that was destroyed.

^^ Considering of course that all of these events such as Thor, Iron Man ,etc have all happened in a very short period of time.

Well, if we go by what we saw at the end of Iron Man 2, the attack on Culver University (TIH) took place not that long before the final battle that Tony had with Whiplash.

And Thor's hammer supposedly made its presence known in New Mexico before the final fight as well since Coulson was shown leaving for that place while tony was working on his new reactor.

If CA:TFA takes place in a similar timeframe that Thor and TIH did in terms of its modern day scenes, then it could very well be a possibility.

I wouldn't say they nearly leveled the city. Wasn't the fight in TIH confined to mostly one street and a small area? It wasn't as if it took place all across Manhattan.

True, but it would be considered big enough to result in seeing news articles and news broadcasts all over New York, talking about the event in the manner that they did with the Culver University incident.

Good point.

No I don't think he was considering Hulk for the team at that point. If you notice Tony said "I hear you have an unusual problem". The problem here i believe he is referencing is the Hulk. So therefore I believe the "team" was his proposal to Ross to help him with his problem.

I don't believe the Hulk is going to start off as a member of the Avengers. I believe in the first act the rest of the avengers are going to go after the Hulk and somehow capture him and once he is captured (I'm speculating here) maybe Banner will try to convince the team that the Hulk is not really that big of a threat and that he can be "aimed" and he would point to the Abom fight as prove.

Then later on when they are losing the battle they might ask Banner "I don't really like asking you this but I have no choice. Do you think you can aim the Hulk again like you did with the monster in NY?"

I'm obviously over simplifying but I believe it would be something along those lines

Then again I don't think they would ask Banner. I believe the Hulk would choose to Help. And when the rest of the team sees this choice they would be convince that the Hulk is in fact a Hero at heart

That's true. Even though Ruffalo even said Hulk will be a hero in this film than a threat. Although I do think to bring Hulk to the team, they'll have to take him down and capture him. I'm predicting SHIELD and maybe Thor and IM will corner him and he'll transform.
