The Avengers The "I Believe In Mark Ruffalo!" Support Thread

My support will not be easily bought. I am still in Norton's camp all the way.

They are booing at someone who is just doing his job and that is to keep profits up at Marvel Studios. When it comes down to it, this is all business and I doubt Feige or any other Marvel executive actually care (to great extent) what the fans think. They want to see that return on investment, they want to see their profits climb, and they most importantly just care about the bottom line. These are what most businesses care about.

Again, I, personally, would not boo anyone (well...maybe Tom Rothman...:oldrazz:), but I can understand why others would. It is a way for those fans dissatisfied with the situation to get their point across. There is a difference in reading the dissatisfaction of fans on the internet and witnessing it first hand, albeit, in a somewhat rude way.

But, we will just have to agree to disagree about how the whole thing has transpired.

BTW, I was kidding about booing Tom Rothman, although, I have to say, he would be the one to truly deserve such a thing. :woot:

True. Studios are all about money and thinking of what the next big money maker is for them. They will always put that first. But I always felt Marvel kind of goes to extra mile to please the comic book fans. All these easter eggs and leading up to The Avengers. And I do feel that bringing out the entire Avengers cast was for us. Yeah, CC is for promotion, but Marvel understands that the people who are passionate about this sutff deserves to see it. Of course it's greta puliblicity though. That never hurts. Call me naive for believing in this but that's how I feel. So I guess The Avengers had to come eventually. But I don't think none of us expect it to be this soon. Not that I'm complaining.

I'm just saying, if you want to hate on Feige, go ahead, but not to his face. The internet is fine. People usually feel satisfied when they hate on the internet, because somehow they think people are listening or it makes them feel better.

Yeah, dude no problem, I wasn't talking about you anyway. I wouldn't expect anyone here to boo him.

I just feel bad for Ruffalo. :csad: He just seems to be getting the raw end here. It's not his fault. I'm glad we have a good replacement. Could have been a bad one.

But if you keep having this attitude, it could deter the enjoyment of a potentially great film. You have a right to be mad, but having this attitude all throughout won't make things any better. It'll make you even more mad. I say give it a chance.

I just think people will still be bummed that Norton won' be back, but when the Avengers hits and it looks awesome and it does prove itself, Norton won't be much of an issue.

I hope your not comparing TIH to Batman and Robin...:o TIH is a masterpiece compared to that pile of crap.

And it's hard to forget a movie that was as good as TIH was. Heck, I think I've watched TIH more often than Iron Man.

I haven't watched Iron Man in over 2 years. Can't say the same for TIH. I watch it at least 1-2 times per week.

BTW, what question did someone ask at the panel about Norton? I hope it was in the guise of defense for the man, because this switch still stinks to high freaking h*ll.

I truly hate this recast but Ruffalo has my full support. Let's hope he does something special with the role.

Guys if Ed Norton had really wanted to do this film he would have signed a multi picture deal with the first Hulk.

I'm not blaming anyone, and I'm not saying Marvel didn't mishandle the situation, but Ed placed a dollar sign contingent on his being in the films and Marvel was not willing to pay that price.

This is no different from a sports team who let's a star player go because they don't want to pay him a huge contract bonus. Life goes on.

Even Norton said that the Hulk is bigger than any one actor. Give Ruffallo a shot.

I'd prefer Norton, but atleast they picked a good actor for Banner. NOW KEEP THIS GUY MARVEL! If they recast Ruffalo, I'm done with Hulk in the movies.

I agree! Marvel has one more chance, Ruffalo better have some Hulk movies post-Avengers!

this is exactly what Kevin Feige wants dont you all see?! he knew fans would give in and accept anything they decide... this is an outrage! who cares if Mark Ruffalo is a good actor, it's all about continuity damnit! why wasnt Kevin Feige booed off stage! WHY?!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Hold on a sec, how does Ruffalo's casting affect continuity? TIH is a story in the Marvel universe that already references the Avengers. How is this changed? The only thing that changes is the aesthetic "continuity". Hey, I didn't like Marvel dropping Norton either, but TIH still exists in the universe they have created. The actor playing Banner has changed, not the story. I just hope that Ruffalo is understanding to the situation. I think that most people are upset at how everything transpired and how arrogant Marvel (Feige) seems to be. If anyone "booed" Ruffalo at CC, that person is an immature brat.

If I had the opportunity to meet Ruffalo at the Con or at the Marvel panel session, I would take that opportunity to welcome him to the Marvel universe, welcome to the Avengers, and wish him the very best at depicting an iconic character.

Multi-picture deals don't mean much with Marvel, you just have to look at the Howard-Cheadle switch with IM2.

I am not saying I won't give the film a chance. I am however saying that now that Norton is gone they've got something to prove. This is a much bigger deal than Terrance Howard being replaced by Don Cheadle in Iron Man. Terrance Howard was not what made Iron Man good, but Norton is what made The Incredible Hulk good. Even with Don Cheadle as Rhodey, it did end up being a distraction because it felt like a different character.

It's going to be very difficult for them to establish any ties between TIH and The Avengers when they're not even using the same actor. What guarantee do we have that Hulk himself will even look consistent between TIH and Avengers?

I'm more concerned about Ruffalo's performance and how they'll manage to fit him in. The consistancy of the Hulk's look doesn't bother me that much.

Norton was a great Banner, but he didn't own the role to the point where we can't see anyone else playing him. He wasn't revolutionary, he was just right and he was good. The role can be played by someone else. There will always be that thought in the back of our heads that it's someone else, but Ruffalo and Whedon and Marvel are going to have to prove that this wasn't for nothing.

That was because his agent demanded a raise, and he was fired for breach of contract. Norton wouldn't even sign a multi picture deal, meaning he was ambiguous about doing another Hulk movie to begin with.

Don't get me wrong here... I like Ruffalo and I WANT to support him... but I just have a lot of trouble picturing him as a brilliant scientist. He's always come off kind-of slow-witted in everything I've seen him in. Maybe that's just how I've perceived him, though. I just can't picture him as Bruce Banner. However, I do hope he knocks it out of the park.

Still, I wanted Norton.

And Kevin Feige is a *****e.

Gale Anne Hurd said that Norton did sign a multi picture deal.

Personally I loved Norton in the role and actually watched Ang Lee's Hulk last night for the first time in quite a long time and enjoyed Bana as well but not nearly as much.

As of right now though, i'm over it. I was wishing so much to have everyone stay so when all these films come out on home video I could have a big marathon watching them all in order. It will feel weird watching TIH then see Ruffalo in The Avengers but i'm sure his role won't be too huge since we should hopefully get a lot of the Hulk.

I'm giving Ruffalo a chance and having seen him in Zodiac and Shutter Island I think he's a very capable actor and should do a great job. I like what Whedon(or was it Feige)said about Banner in The Avengers. That he just wants to focus on his lab work and doesn't want to be bothered really. Should cause some good banter and ball busting from Tony Stark. :hehe:

This dude came up to the mic and said, "Now Kevin, I don't want to be mean. But... EDWARD NORTON!" Not angry, but in an excited and need to know sort of voice.

I hope there's some ball busting from Stark. In Zodiac the two were funny berating eachother.

"Go **** yourself."

"Happily."

:hehe:

Although Ruffalo wouldn't be my first choice for Banner, the dude is just so damn likeable. Maybe he can succeed in making Banner as interesting a character as the Hulk this time.

No matter how good the movie is, Feige is going to come out of this looking like a *****e. He's the one who is primarily responsible for cutting Norton loose, and he was the one who made thinly veiled insults at him in his press release. Norton at least kept things classy when he spoke his opinion on the matter, even though Feige deserves much worse.

Well, I guess at this point, the only thing to do is wish Ruffalo (and crew) the best of luck.

Ruffalo in and of himself doesn't worry me too much (even though I hoped beyond hope that Norton would return), what worries me is that Marvel Studios will do yet another redesign of the Hulk.

The design for The Incredible Hulk (2008) was fantastic! Don't change it! It was the quintessential Hulk look!

If they redo Hulk's appearance then we might as well just assume that TIH is being completely retconned out of continuity. :cmad:

Does anyone know what Feige responded with?

:hehe:

It was great and also reminded me of Alec Baldwin and Wahlberg's banter in The Departed.

Ellerby: "Go **** yourself"
Dignam: "I'm tired from ****ing your wife"
Ellerby: "How's your mother?"
Dignam: "Good, she's tired from ****ing my father"

Ellerby: "I’m gonna go have a smoke right now. You want a smoke? You don’t smoke, do ya, right? What are ya, one of those fitness freaks, huh? Go **** yourself." :hehe:

Fiege responded: (I'm paraphrasing here)"We love continuity, and we wish Edward could be with us, but like Edward said, the Hulk is bigger than all of us."

I say just move on from it all. Because all this flaming against who's never gonna stop. Stop trying to figure out who's fault it is. I don't want to hear this "**** Fiege" **** for two more years.

And yeah, The Departed's dialogue was fantasic. :awesome:

"He coulda been a bookie or something, I don't know what the **** he is."

"Well, you do know what a bookie does don't ya?"

They should at least tweak it to make it look more like Ruffalo.
