The Avengers The "I Believe In Mark Ruffalo!" Support Thread

I guess you either LOVE Sal Buscema's work or you hate it. I LOVED his work and hated it when he left the title. I am not a fan of Al Milgrom's work at all, his style is more reminiscent of a poor man's John Buscema's compared to his brother's Sal.

Now back on to the topic at hand Ruffalo just got more cool points from me, not that he needed them -

Mark Ruffalo has RUN-DMC’s King of Rock as his ringtone…..:applaud:applaud:applaud

Talk’s about humor in the Avenger’s movie

These videos are great, Ruffalo is such a cool dude. Love his style and his reflections on Bruce Banner make me excited as all hell. Ruffalo with Whedon's dialogue? Oh god, oh god. :awesome:

He is what I'm looking forward to the most with this movie.
Also, loved how he reacted to that ring tone. Class act.

I believe Mark will channel Bill Bixby in the Avengers. He already has the look.

I not wild about the tv Hulk being more of an influence on these movies than the comic books.

I'm worried that Ruffalos Banner won't be as athletic as Norton made his Banner thus throwing some of the continuity out the window. The Favela chase in Brazil anyone? I'm sorry but i can't really picture Ruffalo in that same scene, being as agile as Norton was; i hope i'm wrong. Mark already said he's going to use Bixby as the source, who was a very non-physical and athletically awkward Dr. Banner.

As much as i'd like to change certain aspect of TIH (his origin, etc), i hope they leave everything intact for the sake of continuity.- including Liv Tyler who i hated as Betty Ross.

Liv Tyler is not needed back as Betty Ross.

A cameo from the general would be nice, especially considering that last scene in TIH.

Given the fact that they've know reworked that scene to be about Stark asking Ross for Blonsky to be released (as Coulson had hoped for, in hopes that with Stark Asking, Ross will say no), I don't think he'll be as need as much now.

I would still like to see that scene in the Avengers, but developed further with added context so we see how it plays out. It would be great for William Hurt to come back even for a small cameo. I really don't want the only "name" actors to be just the Avengers.

^The scene that's part of the Thor Blueray release with Coulson...

Why would Stark want Blonsky released?

It's not Stark, but Fury that wants Blonsky under SHIELD custody apparently. This was revealed in the One Shot Short film "The Consultant" that's scheduled to be released alongside Thor as a special feature.

^It was on the SHH front page a week ago...look under the Avengers or Thor section....

First, I wasn't that supportive of him playing the role of Banner, but now that I see it and even though I would've loved to see Norton in the upcoming Avengers movie, I think that Ruffalo would do great. Much faith to him!

Same here.

I just saw The Kids are Alright. Ruffalo was awesome in that. His character was a bit of a prick but still managed to be someone you liked. I think he's going to be a great Banner...maybe the best one yet. I might not even grumble this time if Banner gets more screentime than the Hulk. (ok...that's BS....I would never not grumble about that chronic problem that has plagued the Hulk since the TV show)

I think an unused key to making Banner interesting lies in him using his intelligence to get him out of jams.

I think alot of it is charm. I really didn't like plenty aspects of the TV show, but the main thing that they needed to get right, was Banner, and they did.

Bixby just had an inherent charm to him, he was extremely believable as someone real, going through these intense situations. But he also had charisma, and made it seem likely that someone like that could indeed wind up with another friend or love interest almost every episode.

Bixby made you feel for his plight, much moreso than I did Bana or even the great Norton, while still retaining a certain charisma & charm. The Pilot (along with the "Married" episodes) are some of the greatest portrayals of a superhero alter-ego in comic adaptation history IMO. If Ruffalo can approach any of that, even slightly, we'll be in store for the best portrayal on the big screen yet.

I disagree. There were many more episodes than just those two that showed off his brilliance. I would cite the whole series, but there are some which are real standouts.

I wish it were Bixby in this movie instead of Ruffalo. That would be magic. His name even looks better visually in the credits ("Bill Bixby") than Eric Bana, Ed Norton or Mark Ruffalo. It's practically a superhero alter ego name.

Alliteration has claimed another victim. :o

There were, but those two, for me personally, were the highwater mark. Easily.

You know who does look a bit like Bill Bixby? RDJ without his goatee. Maybe he could've played both Stark and Banner. :funny:

He'd have to give a very different performance for Banner though to contrast it with Stark.

I was never that big a fan of the Hulk television series as a kid. I appreciate Bixby gave a good performance and I liked some of the spin off films, but the series was a bit boring for me as a kid. It just seemed like he was only ever fighting some random goon and such. I really hope Del Toro's series can do the Hulk justice.
