The "I loved Spider-Man 3" Thread!

I liked a lot of it, but it just fell flat. Besides all the corny stuff, like the useless dance scene, the ramifications of connecting all of the villains to Spidey's personal life as Peter Parker didn't end well as far as I'm concerned. As long as it fits, and you don't have to squeeze it in where it shouldn't be, then it's cool. Peter's best friend becomes his enemy. That's fine, his enemy at the Bugle becomes his archenemy, that's fine too. Sandman becoming the killer of Uncle Ben, that's not fine. It ruined an entire part of the film for me(Sandman as a whole).

Venom was pretty useless too. But that's funny because Raimi has now screwed him over, and everyone will always yell, "a symbiote can't work on screen, just look at Spider-Man 3." We were not given what we wanted in the slightest. Then there was just flat out terrible scenes like the Butler and Harry scene. They couldn't think of any ideas so they just threw together some crap. Thanks Avi 'A-hole' Arad and Sam "I like Peter Parker more than Spider-Man" Raimi(yeah, I couldn't believe he actually said that either).

But on the other hand, Aunt May was great as usual. The fued between Harry and "New Goblin"(You have no idea how much I hate that name) went well. I liked the way they portrayed Spider-Man in the first half, as really caring for the people, actually likes being the Spider-Man, and has fun doing it. All of the scenes with JJ were hilarious, unlike the dancing. The sand effects were astounding, and the SFX as a whole were pretty good. The only thing that really looked CGI were the humans.

But, just so you know, we already have a "I hate SM3 thread". :cwink:
 
I really liked the movie, and I thought it was very in tune with the spirit of the comics, even more so than the previous two films. And I wouldn't be opposed to seeing the Director's Cut . . .

SM3 is not the reason symbiotes can't work (in any medium). Symbiotes are the reason symbiotes can't work. They're weak plot devices used to bring out even weaker characters designed solely to look (not act) like Spidey doppelgangers.

Raimi's Venom, despite being underdeveloped, is a hundred times better than 616 Venom if only because he's given a purpose and a significance in the movie. Whereas 616 Venom is just a series of piss poor motivations and character "growth" (see: any Venom mini).

Shame, I'd have been quite happy had Venom been the only terrible thing about this film.
 
Well I personally am more disappointed by the lack of pace and uneven flowing of scenes. I also think the dance scenes on their own are quite funny and work well, I do not mind seeing Parker portrayed that way. It's just while something lighter was needed in this point of the movie this montage was a little too light and fluffily absurd compared to the rest of the movie. It didn't feel right.

I also disliked the butler revelation (which could have been done much better, though it still would have been a bad piece of storytelling), the rushed team up and the climax crippling reporters.

But it still has many qualities as a piece of entertainment and popcorn fare. I cared about the three main characters (Peter, Harry and MJ), the story kept me interested. And the villains while underused I would say at least had some real presence, particularly Sandman who with far too limited screentime had the most pathos in the entire movie. And the ending was downright spectacular (I'm talking from after the final battle to the credits rolling). It had humanity.

And in a summer full of POTC3s and Transformers and FF2s and Ocean 13s, that makes it look much better than the competition. Albeit HP5 and Bourne Ultimatum far surpassed any summer extravaganza and Knocked Up and Ratoutille trumped all.

Just my opinion, though.

To get back on topic:

One thing that I can say that I "loved" about SM3 is Sandman. They had the perfect Sandman; he couldn't have been any better.
 
I agree, Church was fantastic as Sandman...

That above scene is one of the worst over the top death themes I have ever heard. If that scene has this music- then it would have been DRAMATICALLY [and i use the term loosely] improved.

Subtle and true to the previous films. A brilliant finish for Harry's character. Full circle both visually and musically.

Meh. It is the same basic theme, but with different arrangements and instrumentals.

Yes, it was sweeping in the movie and melodramatic, but ALL THREE FILMS ARE MELODRAMATIC Sam Raimi IS ove-the-top. The first two movies, like any RAimi movie, are about as sublte as a bag of hammers.

I like the first two movies (loving only particularly the second one) but people act like they are Oscar pieces. Raimi has always gone for the loud sweeping daramtic or loud sweeping silly in his movies. I just think Elfman is a better composer than YOung hence thwen Ock dies or walks away from Peter it is very noble but just as over the top as Harry's scene.

But I liked Young's music there because it worked for the scene well and branched off into the funeral scene (which was composed very nicely) well which led to the final scene in the jazz club perfectly. I think these three scenes were a very good ending that gets completely ignored because of a silly dance scene and Venom just not working.

Alas.
