I've often heard it said Claudius was the master at avvies, the Kane of his day, if you will.

It's the one facet I think that Derek Jacobi missed in his portrayal. But they glossed over a lot in that version... Like how Capt. Picard ended up a Centurion.

:yay:
Did you try just conversing with the person or are they just above reproach?

Yes. Roose puts it best, but this guy... He just HAS to be an asshat. Maybe he's the type that likes to test people for what ever reason... I don't know? I find that kind of behavior tedious. Offline, if you act like that you are asking for more choice words than are allowed here on the hype to be thrown your way, AT BEST.

Now we come down to the 65 thousand dollar question: Kirk or Picard?

Now we come down to the 65 thousand dollar question: Kirk or Picard?

Don't do this to me Roose...

I grew up raised by a TOS fan, my mom. She was so into the show, when it originally aired she watched it in the furniture store she lived over because they sold color sets. We had the series on VHS when I was growing up and I watched it constantly. On the other hand I was into NG from the start. I wasn't one of the old school fans that just couldn't open up to it (My mom actually ended up liking Next Geb too btw). I just finished up a rewatch of all of TOS and am in the middle of doing the same for Next Gen.

I LOVE Shatner's Kirk. I know people talk about his over acting, I mean, I do a mean impression of him myself, and sure, there are some inadvertently funny moments looking at his performance in hindsight, but... Damn is he still great to me. You watch it and you'll follow that guy straight into the heart of the sun, and dramatically I think he's a lot better than most give him credit for.

Now Stewart as Picard? Jeez... As good as the cast around him is in their parts, I am just not sure that Next Gen lasts more than two seasons without Stewart as Picard. He really is the beating heart of that show and what he does over those 7 seasons is brilliant. He takes a key aspect from those first two season, "Picard is academic and stuffy", and runs with it to great places drama/character wise.

So with both fresh in my mind... Gun to my head... Picard by a smidge.

I'm something of a Picard loyalist myself.

Picard, cause he's the one I think of when the name Star Trek is brought up.

I guess for a lot of younger people they won't even have a frame of reference to Stewart's Picard. He'll be Prof. X to them.

Picard for me, though I did like Chris Pine's Kirk better than Shatners. :)

What's interesting to me is that Hunter's Pike, though we see so little of him, is a good character as well. There's some dove tailing with the writing of him and Kirk that you can see in THE CAGE and MENAGERIE, but there's also differences. Who knows how things would have evolved had he stayed on as Pike?

i like Pickard... but while KHAN is blasting everybody including your cute little dog spot!Pickard would be reading Shakespeare and &*( trying to get him to surrender peacefully! KIRK would Judo chop that fool and get that dude in a running scissor lock( i always tried that as a kid..never worked though!) and Knock the dude Flat OUT and then "interfere" with his Hench BABE!!(chicks willing interfered with him too!)

All valid points Vulcan. Has anyone here ever seen when Shatner backed up Bret The Hitman Hart on RAW back in the early 90's? It's hilarious and awesome at the same time. I wasn't a big wrestling fan past my early childhood, but as a teen one night I'm flipping channels and BOOM, there is Shatner in the ring whoopin ass! I immediately called my friend Chris and told him "Stop what ever you are doing right now and turn on USA... Shatner is fighting a wrestler!" It's one of my fondest teen memories.

Not many things in this world can top a BLT. It's simple yet so damn good
