TIH showed more Bruce Banner than Hulk. But Norton is such a talented actor that it didn't matter to me.

Eh whatever. There's never a summer these days that isn't crowded. Despite this crowded summer a lot of movies did very well. A ton of movies hit it big this year. So I mean, that excuse doesn't really fly.

The movie was the biggest movie that weekend, and it didn't open THAT big. And it dropped significantly the following week. So I mean, I'm not sure how 2009 could change that.

Granted that is somewhat true. But I have never seen a summer as jammed packed with good stuff as this summer. It was as if a new blockbuster came out every weekend. TiH suffered from other things besides this. Everyone was looking forward to TDK and IM, while most of the GA was "eh" toward TiH. Why else would people say "Why are they making another one?" As of right now, I don't think summer '09 is going to be as "big" as this summer. Because Marvel doesn't have anything going next year, it may have been wise to take some additional time to make the movie better and the public more aware (including the fact that it isn't a sequel; I still see people talking about how this is a sequel).

Uh Wolverine. It might be produced by 20th Century Fox, but Marvel still has their hands in it.

So let's see next year you have Wolverine, Hannah Montana, Bruno, Angels and Demons, Terminator 4, and Night At The Museum 2 all in May. That's just for May alone.

June will have Year One (new Apatow comedy) and Transformers 2. July has a new Michael Mann film starring Depp and Bale. It also has Ice Age 3 and Land of The Lost. August has GI JOE which is a big one. So its not like it isn't crowded, especially May.

The other point is, I believe Marvel is obligated to do two of their studio produced films every summer. So they needed both Hulk and Iron Man for 07. the only thing is because of the strike they couldn't really gear anything up for 09. I think then we would've seen Ant-man and Thor.

And you're right that all summers are now crowded. I think next year they should make it easier by cancelling GI Joe and buring all evidence of the film.

Yeah, they are obligated (from what I understand) under the deal with the financial institution (Merril Lynch, I think).

I honestly didn't know all those movies were coming out next summer. Perhaps Marvel should consider spreading out the releases, but I'm not sure if they are obligated to release the movies within a certain time frame, ie May to Aug for example. I could see Hulk coming out in October to coincide with Halloween.

Shareholders and investors. Marvel is a publically traded company, or have you forgotten? If the movies were to ever fail, reports have stated that Marvel could risk losing the theatrical rights to some of their characters.

Just remember that this isn't all Marvel's money paying for these movies. It was done through a credit deal with Merrill Lynch. So these movies are essentially independently financed. And the investors will want something back when a lot of money is being spent on all these films.

Now its my understanding that Marvel is obligated to do two of their own studio movies every summer. So this year it was Iron Man and Hulk. Currently next year they don't have any of their own self-done studio films ready to go because of the strike. But 2010 they want Thor and Iron Man 2, and 2111 they want Cap and Avengers.
