The Infinity Gems

I just re-read the Thanos Quest, and was wondering what the other posters on the board would say to this question:

You get one, and only one gem. You may only have one gem in your position in any way. You cannot use the gem's power to gain access to any other gem. Which one would you choose?

Personally, I'd go a little tame compared to what you could get, with say, the Reality gem. I would take the Space Gem. I could be anywhere I want in less then an instant.

I think that my pick would be the time gem. Immortality and access to all the knowledge that has ever or will ever be accumulated anywhere would be sufficient.

I would either take the time gem or the reality gem. Probably the reality gem though. Both would give me the means to to as a please, but the Reality gem means I can just wish it as opposed to having to change the whole time continuum thing, and I bet that's tiring...

Dude. I never thought of that. With the Time jem, you could basically be immortal. Find yourself in a life threatening situation? Reverse time and make sure to avoid it. Find out about a life threatening illness too late? Reverse time and catch it early. That would be pretty cool.

Except that they established that you can't use the reality gem unless you also have both the space and time gems. Without them the reality gem can't be controlled.

Dude. I never thought of that. With the Time jem, you could basically be immortal. Find yourself in a life threatening situation? Reverse time and make sure to avoid it. Find out about a life threatening illness too late? Reverse time and catch it early. That would be pretty cool.

You could also boost technology from the future or from alien worlds. You could get yourself a star yacht from 5000 years in the future complete with all the entertainment forms such as holodeck/danger room.

I'd go for the time gem, too. Time control has always seemed like the best power to me. You can freeze time's passage on your cells to be immortal, warp time around yourself or others to grant yourself super-speed, age people, regress people, disguise yourself by aging or regressing your own appearance, slow time in a fight so you'll never be caught by surprise, etc. Lots of versatility.

You could keep people you approve of young and make women very grateful when they find that they are 18 years old again and still have all the wisdom they have accumulated since ( if any ). It would also be a great answer to sibling rivalry when the sibling you are quarreling with suddenly finds that he/she is 8 years old again and you are looming over them.

Glad to see you would use the power responsibly. Oh hell, who am I kidding, the first thing I would do was go back in time and win the lottery...twice.

To tell you the truth, with a power like that, money is worthless. You could go back in time, and set yourself up as a God. Be worshiped, beautiful half naked maidens feeding you grapes, a massive golden palace made from technology that hasn't even been conceived yet, I mean, the possibilities are truly endless here.

Right, but let's say you wanted a painting you saw in a museum. You could either just say "I want that, I'll give you a billion dollars for it." from all the money you've gained, or you can stop time, pry the damn painting off teh wall, carry it home, and hang it on your wall. While no time has passed for everyone else, you still had to do all that damn work, instead of just saying i"i want that" and letting your minions handle it for you.

Or you could just go back in time to the moment the artist finished painting it and swipe it while he's on the chamber pot.

Or you could reach back in time to when the painting was new create an alternate time line, remove the brand new painting from the timeline, isolate it from temporal change and delete the timeline. You now have a brand new intact version of the painting without spending an cent.

Don't forget the whole "if anything bad happens to you or is about to kill you, you go back in time and avoid it" thing. You'd be basically unkillable with the time gem.
