One of the things that I loved about Rhino in this show is how he fights Spidey. He throws him around, tries to squash his head, etc.

It was a great episode and and I think the series is on its way to surpassing TAS. There are some things I think TAS did better (character models excluding Peter and MJ's outfit, music, Norman Osborn, Curt Conners, Doc Ock and a few others) but in 6 episodes it is doing amazingly well and shows a lot more room to work than Fox censors allowed the '90s show.

However, one thing I do still prefer about TAS is the voice acting. I understand since they are in high school (as opposed to graduate school aged like in TAS) that they have to sound younger but I think TAS did MJ's intro better simply because of delivery:

The whole video thing is great nostalgia but skip ahead to 1:27 to get the MJ build up/intro.

Yeah...the censors on FOX wouldn't let them get away with alot. I just wasn't fond of some of the more ludicrous aspects of the 90's series. The "Neogenic" thing got old with Spidey having to get dosed with it every other episode. Also, Carnage being included was stupid, simply because he couldn't kill anyone...and he's Carnage. I understand it's a kid's show, but if you can't show a guy known ONLY for killing people dooing so, then it's best not to include him at all. Then again, I thought Carnage should have been left as a one storyline villian.

Either way, barring a catastrophe, this looks like it will surpass all Spidey series'.

True, but I still prefer the voices for Peter and MJ in TAS as well as the music. I also think it got Norman Osborn, Doc Ock and Connors better as well as character designs. But the new series feels more like the '70s comics (I'd say TAS felt like a watered down version of the '80s comics especially with the Kingpin/crime war and Hobgoblin heavy episodes).. It has much better and more fluid animation even if the character models are little too unrendered and I think did Rhino, Vulture and Sandman (over Hydroman) better. It also has the best take on Eddie Brock I've ever seen effortlessly intergrating him with the original characters, something SM3 struggled to do. And I also doubt in this series we'll see them have to create "alternate dimensions" to send characters when they want to kill them off and censors won't let them (looking at Venom, Carnage and of course GG and MJ. The only character TAS really killed off was Mysterio). I also hope to see no Madame Web. Though I do get a feeling that "Big Man" will be to this series what Kingpin was to TAS, but that is an element I'm glad to see return. I also personally liked the neogenic saga (the Morbius 5 parter was great), but when we went dimension hopping and so on, meh.

One other voicing thing, I'm not a fan of how they reworked JJJ. It is a bad impression of what JK Simmons did in the Spider-Man trilogy. I loved Simmons in the role and those movies, but it was a small role and was an actor taking all the elements of the comic book counterpart and recreating the character to suit him successfully. This show just takes the motor mouth aspect and leaves a lot of the rest. I really think next season they need to slow him down and make him a real character and just not a bafoon. I mean Ed Asner played JJJ for laughs, but JJJ was a fully developed character in TAS like in the comics. Since SSM is a series they don't have to make him a walking punch line like in the movies.

P.S. To be fair the entire first season of TAS was gold. I think this show will surpass TAS in later seasons when it can go further and kill off Gwen and do new things which TAS didn't (to be fair the use of disappearing MJ, the marriage, the Goblin saga and Black Cat were very cleverly implemented between the bad stories in the later seasons of TAS).

I loved seeing Spidey get b!tch slapped by Tombstone :hyper:

Awww, people are still not down with Spidey getting a 4 second beat down to Tombstone? While it was surprising to me that it happened, it wasn't surprising to me that Tombstone could do this to someone like Spider-Man.

The makers of this show have said that the them is "The education of Peter Parker." They said they are gonna take this kid to school and I honestly believe they are gonna do that both in and out of the suit.

Keep in mind that, although Spidey is strong, he's only been Spider-Man for 4 months. He's still new at this. Yes, he did underestimate Tombstone and he got owned for doing so. Tombstone on the other hand has been at his racket for a long time and he's very experienced at it.

And man, MJ did deliver her line with a hint of seduction in her voice. I liked. :yay:

'Nuff said. That whole scene with Tombstone was perfection.:word::up:

Now That Mary Jane Watson is offical been introduced into the series . I eagrly await to see

1. Spidey & MJ's first websling

2. The famous upside down Kiss

3. MJ calling Peter "Tiger"

She's already done #3. Though I don't expect Peter and MJ to become a couple right away.

Separated at birth?

HeeHee! :woot:

MJ and Peter will most likely just be friends after the formal, but I really have a feeling they will be more than friends.

I don't think so. Maybe in the second season--but they should leave that alone for this season.

The Gwen/Eddie thing is more than likely to advance the Venom subplot. He goes with her thinking Peter's sitting it out, but they find out he really went out with some new chick. So Gwen will be jealous and mad that Peter "lied" to her and is apparently seeing someone he never even mentioned to anyone else (well, Harry knew about MJ) and Eddie will be REALLY mad that Peter "lied" to Gwen so he could go out with someone else instead of just saying he was going with someone else.

And then with Gwen likely trying harder to get Peter's attention Brock will just be more angry and even jealous himself if he starts to develop real feelings for Gwen.

I like this, instead of having Brock hate Spider-Man, the relationship will be that he hates Peter instead. Like what they were trying to do in SM3 if Brock hadn't been a forced inclusion.

I have a feeling we won't be seeing Brock become Venom until the middle of the second season, which is a long way away. :cmad:
