Iron Man 3 The Iron Man 3 Box Office Prediction Thread

Skyfall was sold brilliantly. A lot of hype that started at the beginning of 2012.

Honestly the real reason why i think it made so much money over here in the UK (other than the adele song and great critical reaction) is that Sky tv over here had drilled every single bond film in viewers minds for an entire month and got everyone in the proper mood for it. That's one very effective way of marketing a movie.

I'm predicting MOS will do max of 750-800, and that's being pretty optimistic.

Bond is a huge, established franchise that has had several recent successful movies. So it's tough to really compare that and Superman, who hasn't had a decent outing on the big screen in 33 years.

explain quantum of solace then which had hardly any improvement over Casino Royale. I believe Skyfall earnt it's billion, rather than hitting it just because it's Bond.

Haha when you talk about 'terrible photoshopped poster' I immediately thought you were referring to the Avengers and their pretty lackluster poster lol. My bad.

I'd take that over the crap we got for TDKR.

Yeah that's why i said ill be really ecstatic if it hits a billion, but if marketing hits the right spots....there is no reason why it shouldn't make Inception money.

Really and truly it's a mixture of both the quality of the film and the fact that it's an established franchise. You can't have one without the other; Quantam of solace made close to 600 million and that is widely regarded as a pretty lackluster film compared to the other two recent Bond movies.

Like I said, marketed brilliantly. It made crazy money even here in the States. They did the job everywhere.

I agree with you here, I think it can make Inception money. Like I said earlier, that's the ceiling though - I can't picture it going any higher.

Well every film is breaking a billion, there isn't a reason that MoS couldn't, especially if the hype reaches molten levels.

No, every film is not breaking a billion, and there are plenty of reasons. Superman is my favorite and MoS is my most hyped movie in forever, but you are letting your fanboy show. Can you be at least a little objective? You are just throwing stuff out there because you want it to do well.

You have resorted to, "Well I say it can".

True but if IM3 gets a 20 m shortage in the domestic market it could miss 1.2 billion without taking a hit overseas.

But yeah Star Trek is going to get steamrolled overseas.

It will but I imagine it will do far better overseas than the 09 film did. They've been very smartly centering their overseas marketing around Cumberbatch, who is pretty huge outside of the states.

I'm sure they own a lot of things that never start with their castle opening. Wouldn't it feel a little jarring if every MCU film opened with that?

They'll probably treat Marvel Studios the same way they do Touchstone.

Oscars mean crap all, Ledger deserved his Oscar but he still won purely because he died...it's all politics and backstage tomfoolery. RDJ doesn't need it when he's a proven box office behemoth.

:whatever:X10000000

There was Oscar talk months before he died. What did you think RDJ was going to win for Tropic Thunder?

I think MoS with the perfect storm hits Inception money, and the sequel grows to $1 B, which would put it on track for the biggest superhero solo trilogy ever.

Considering he died right before the 2007 Oscars, no it's not an outrageous thought. And no since RDJ already had an Oscar, and Heath had died no one thought RDJ would win for Tropic Thunder.

No one is saying it wasn't a terrific performance, and no one is saying he didn't deserve it. His death pretty much guaranteed he'd win it.

This thread is the last bastion of positivity on the iron man boards. :p

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Although I was very disappointed with IM3, I wish nothing but success for the film, both with fans and the box office. I'm happy to see others enjoyed it, and I hope Downey doesn't hang up the suit just yet.

RDJ doesn't have an Oscar; he was nominated for Chaplin but lost to Pacino's Scent of a Woman role.

Haha..crazy eh. I've given up on the hopes that all fanboys will one day cheer up on every CB movies doing this good. It's only good for the future of the genre.

One word: Olympics.

That section with the Queen in the opening ceremony is the best marketing any film would crave for, especially with the worldwide viewers. That started the ball rolling which escalated with SkyMovies 007 channel.

Don't say that! You'll jinx us. :cwink:

Isn't it sad, though? Iron Man 3 has garnered general acclaim and has a realistic shot at making $1 Billion worldwide, yet the forum here is in disaster mode. It's a given that not everyone will be please with every film, but sometimes I wonder if fans aren't their own worst enemies.

I don't think it's that bad so far. The worst is when the fervor dies down from tremendous hype, and just devolves to a buyers remorse of sorts. I could be wrong, but I foresee the opposite happening here when all is said and done -We'll see some initial backlash, mainly due to a certain point of contention I don't care to bring up again, that I think will eventually subside and people will reflect upon the movie favorably.

They are sometimes. There is a difference between being disappointed and going insane with hate. And many have crossed the line. :p

Like the poster who said he hated everything about the movie when in reality he was probably just upset [BLACKOUT]about the Mandarin twist.[/BLACKOUT]

Correct, my mistake. He did win the BAFTA for Chaplin that year, I think I must have mixed that up.

But there's more actual action in the movie than in the previous Iron Man films combined. I doubt it'll be an issue.

True. However, a lot of those action scenes feature Tony,Rhody, and (at the end of the movie) Pepper kicking butt.

Well, considering the oscars like to reward those who really like to take risks, RDJ pretty much took one of the most outlandish and hysterical risks in movie history. I can't think of no one right now that could have done his role in Tropic Thunder and gotten away with it, without a scratch!
