The Jared Leto is The Joker(?) Thread

Joker was as much failure as Lex. :csad:

I disagree here. While I think Jesse could improve later on, he failed to be intimidating & he talked just a little too much. I remember for both showings I went to a great many people being annoyed that he just went on and on and on.

It's all subject to personal opinion, but I think Leto's Joker manages to at least be intimidating in the short time he has & seem like an actual villain and not someone desperately trying to be evil.

And then there's Lex's hair...say what you will about the grillz & tattoos, but all of that was better than Lex's hair. Talk about a travesty. :funny:

lex was horribly portrayed in my opinion. All I saw was Heath's joker, and a poor version at that. I didn't see enough of Leto's joker to really form an opinion.

Yeah, it's obvious that's the route he tried and he failed miserably. Lex is going to take massive tweaking to be able to be taken seriously moving forward. Otherwise he'll just be remembered as a piss poor caricature of Heath's Joker.

The main problem was probably the fact that Zack Snyder was handling the character. He did a good job with Zod but he didn't really know what to do with Lex. And it showed.

They were both horrible renditions of their characters. Two of DC's best villains horribly butchered. But Luthor was the worse of the two because Leto at least delivered some competent acting.

Another problem is that one (Leto) can simply be taken far more seriously than the other (Eisenberg) as a villain. Even though Jesse had a few good scenes, it's just so hard to see him as intimidating.

The fact that Joker is more serious than Luthor says it all.

Luthor is terrible and i liked Joker but didn't love him. I liked him while i was watching him and felt he needed more to chew on. Some scenes were forced, some were really good. But 3 months later and all i want to do is watch Heath or Jack again. It's just not very memorable. It could be the movie and size of the role though. I'm looking forward to watching the extended cut of Suicide Squad and see what he brings to The Batman.

I do find this Batman and Joker to be one-dimensional and a bit dull. It's really too bad.

Maybe Joker, sure, but I wouldn't consider this Batman one-dimensional. But there's certainly a lot of legwork to be done and a lot of ground to cover.

I think that we'll know how good or bad Leto's Joker is when they put him in a movie where he can have the spotlight. Not an ensemble movie but a solo movie where we can really see him go to work in Gotham.

The problem here has always been that SS was a team film, and as much as I hate to admit it, now that I think about it, this was almost always going to be what it came down to. There was no way Leto's Joker was going to get the appropriate screen-time as long as he wasn't the main focus, and he wasn't.

This is why I'm hoping the solo film will have Joker as the main villain & not Deathstroke.

Letto's Joker left no impression on me whatsoever, neither good nor bad. For me this version was like some tv version that just came and went, like , for example, Joker in Birds of Prey. I dont dislike it tho, I understand the need to get a different take. They wanted to go for a gangsta/modern thug feel, its ok with me, they have to adapt and change. The Joker (the user) does have some valid points on how many Joker essentials are lost in this version tho, then again to be fair, weve seen very little of him, but perhaps enough to get a taste of it. My knowledge for the comic books post 2010 is a bit lacking so I cant tell if this Joker matches any incarnations or behavioral traits of the post 2010 Joker

.

Has Leto been confirmed to reprise The Joker in the upcoming Batman movie? I've only heard Deathstroke mentioned as the villain...

No confirmation but it would make no sense not to use Joker in at least one scene (im sure there will be more than one).

No confirmation, but it's pretty obvious at this point.

Yeah, I doubt Ben's going to neglect throwing him in there somewhere. There's still always that possibility of him having a big part in the film too.

It wouldn't surprise me one single bit if he's the main baddie pulling strings.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same. And after the SS cut scenes fiasco, he deserves that much. If nothing more, I'm anxious to see if the chemistry is there for Affleck and Leto the way it was for Keaton/Nicholson and Bale/Ledger.

To be fair, there was a chance to showcase that in SS but they chose a car chase instead of something more one-on-one that would've involved dialogue between the two.

Which to me was a tease until we get the actual showdown in "The Batman". Even the way Joker escaped before Batman can catch him, it was a major tease and i'm pretty sure Affleck is having a blast (and pulling his hair out at the same time) writing their confrontation.

I'd hope it's more of the former than the latter. But yeah, I know they want to tease us leading up to actually showing their world more in depth but I'm just anxious.

First time we'll actually have a chance to have the Joker in a more fantastical setting that feels like the comics. We got that with Nicholson in '89...and then they killed him.

Fantastical setting though? I'm sure Affleck will make it grittier than Snyder.

Fantastical in the sense that it's not grounded like Nolan's universe. We actually have Killer Croc, meaning there's potential to see other villains like Man-Bat, Clayface, etc. Joker supposedly died in SS & then popped back up like it was nothing. That's what I mean by it being more fantastical. Just because it'll be gritty doesn't negate that. The moment metahumans and magic gets introduced, it's instantly more fantastical.

Sure but that doesn't mean Affleck will include those characters or not make it more realistic in his solo movie.

Kind of hard to make it more "realistic" when you've already had Batman interacting with a demi-God, an alien, and an alien monster. Realism is out the window already for this Batman or the DCEU period.

No it is not. You need some fantasy with Deathstroke but other than that, Ben could make this a more grounded story that doesn't involve aliens. For all we know this is an isolated story set in Arkham for a good chunk of the film.

I'm not saying it will nor that it should involve aliens. And the story can still have fantastical elements without involving extraterrestrials. I think there's a fundamental misunderstanding here of exactly what fantastical means.

Personally loved Leto's Joker and look forward to seeing him in the next Batman film and hopefully part of a trilogy of Affleck films.
