Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

Joaquin's Joker laugh is so creepy but I loved it

Joker movie could fetch 1 Billion WW.
But I heard it's Rated R, which is good, so I would say maybe 950 Million WW.
Joaquin Phoenix looks great as the Joker.

Not a chance in hell it goes that high!

A low budget, gritty, artsy take on The Joker that’s likely to be an R, and is clearly not in any way similar to any other comic book movie?

It’d be considered a gigantic success if it breaks 500 million.

I wonder if Joker ends up being the one that puts Chill up to killing Martha and Thomas Wayne

I’m getting the feeling that the scene where he’s looking at himself in the mirror will be basically this Joker’s version of this

He has the worst day of his life and looks at his reflection in the mirror and sees his clown makeup.

That would be good for a mid or post credits scene

Here is how I see it happening based from trailer

To me it seems like he flips nuts there in the train/metro. He had that bad day (phone booth scene included), he is there realising his own comedy, laughing outta nowhere in that wagon, then these guys approach "whats so funny?" And on top of that beat him "freak"

I think he kills one or two of these dudes there and then he flees outta what he has done, thats the scene he seems desperate running under that tunnel. Looks like he is just leaving the station nearby in a hurry.

However, it happens these guys worked for Thomas Wayne's campaign, this is how we get to see his speech on tv the other day "who could have done something so cruel" (something like that)

Not sure if there were cameras by then, but I think somehow ppl get to see the reality of things and how the dudes were actually beating and spanking this guy dressed as clown and what happened is that he actually reacted against these rich suits molesting this poor man. I think thats how part of the public opinion starts shifting towards the "Clown". Some ppl start to see him as justified and actually dress as clowns in support.

Thats how I pictured currently

I think that's a lot of wild assumptions, with all due respect. I doubt he kills any of those guys on the subway.

That would be fantastic and a great nod to one of the most iconic moments in The killing Joke and comic book history.

The subway scene looks kind of confusing to me. The Joker's just had his ass beat down by those teens who stole his sign and then...he gets his ass beat down again? Oddly repetitive.

Except for one key detail, being his laughing during the second beating.

If a Venom movie without Spider-Man can make as much as it did, then a Joker movie without Batman can do the same, especially if it's actually good.

Venom is a crowd pleaser but Joker looks like an Oscar bait movie so i'm not sure about that.

Joker looks much better than Venom.

That being said, I can't help but feel this is a different character we're seeing here than Joker which is fine with me if it's a good film. Comic characters certainly can be interpreted in different ways.

Do you think he’ll die at the end and in a way set up a legacy for a future Joker that will be Batman’s nemesis??

Exactly and it was waaaay more a chance to get brushed under the rug.

That a bit contradictory. ''I have no problem with a backstory, but the one they created isn't a Joker backstory!''

Once agian-never said him being given a back story is the issue here-what i said and am saying and will come back here and post an “i told you so” about here in a few years when it all comes out in the open is-this is a movie about some random guy that WB decided to put a Joker costume on so they could make another movie to distract away from the failed DCCU. Like i said this happens a-lot and apparently all you and a few misguided souls need to think a movies about the joker is a guy in a purple suit. Have you seen Glass? Was that the joker too? Crazy dude in Purple suit? Extremely slim connection to super heros? Totally the Joker!. WB has gone so far away this time that to try and make up for him being alive decades to early is make Thomas Wayne a counterpart. You will see in this movie that that was crowbared in and wont make sense in alot of places.

Bit of a false equivalence. Venom has been a popular anti hero in comics for years, and starred in a full blown, sfx driven comic book movie. He exists quite happily apart from Spider-man.

Joker has been exclusively the villain of the most popular superhero in cinema, has not appeared in popular fiction before without Batman. And this is a low budget drama.

Virtually nothing in common between the two characters, when you get past the superficial stuff.

Joker is also a popular character, far more than Venom, but Venom was a dumb crowd pleaser starring People's Artist Tom Hardy. Unless all that misery, no matter how well acted, is compensated by energetic storytelling and trademark Joker humor, it won't be as appealing. Still, it will attract crowds based on the name only.

Also, another question if it will conquer critics.

After the extremely huge and positive response to this initial trailer, my biggest concern about the film right now is that WB is going to somehow **** this up. Order "minor" reshoots, edit the film down, go for PG-13 instead of R, etc. -- in order to maximize gross profits.

I reallyyyy hope nothing happens that compromises the vision of the filmmakers.

Maybe they’ll hire a movie trailer company to recut the film!

This is just another interesting one off. Way too many people are overthinking it. People have to understand your perceptions of what this character is supposed to be isn't definite. DC has historically experimented the most with their mainline characters. This is in the spirit of the company.
