Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

Jenkins, Wan, and Sandberg already took care of that I think.

DC is doing just fine but it’ll be a decade or so before public perception turns in their favor.

2016 really set um back man publicity wise. Just the wrong time to release those two movies.

DC aint Marvel Studios but on its own terms its doing quite well lately critically and financially. Joker could skyrocket them and help them carve out their own unique niche of off kilter, elseworlds type films.

Joker is an interesting character that can be explored. Closing a character and not letting it reach it's full potential it's the worst thing a writer can do. Just watch how good this movie looks. It's something original and fresh. That's how art is created: new ideas, visions, etc. Not being afraid because you aren't following the rules.

This isn’t original or fresh. I’m not saying it isn’t going to be good, but everything we’ve seen has been done elsewhere.

I disagree. I find it a very original take of the Joker. Besides the "Failed comedian" aspect, everything pretty much is taken and mixed from other sources, and made into something new in the context of the comic book genre. Originaliity has many meanings these days. Taking a character and putting it in other media/world is something i consider original. Joker has been praised by it's originality (look at the TIFF description).
I don't see any comic book movie doing a full character drama of a villain without an action scene. Just full drama, like the script showed. Even Logan had action at it's ending, but this one is full drama, and that coming from a comic book movie it's pretty much new (Related to a superhero lore).

The whole story, while taking a lot of inspirations (having an inspiration doesn't make you less original. Tarantino does it all the time) from other movies, still adds a new whole different story to the context of Joker. THe mother, the Wayne story, and the ending (Won't spoil it for you), are new things. That's something every creator does. You will never find a creator that doesn't take something from old stories. Just look at the most celebrated authors of literature. Shakespeare used to take a lot of inspirations. Tolkien's Lord of the RIngs takes a lot from old literature classics. Yet, you can't tell me their stories aren't original. Lets get closer to the present, then: Logan pretty much took a lot from classic Westerns like Unforgiven and Shane, yet the story still is original because it doesn't stay as an adaptation but tells a new story. EVERY author will always take another story as inspiration. Sometimes it's as clear as water, sometimes it isn't. Artists are always pulling inspiration from each other. Great artists are able to pull inspiration from multiple sources. They can adapt and evolve their style to fit the project they are working on in the moment. They aren't stubborn and arrogant. They are always willing to learn from others to become better.

"Good artists copy, great artists steal"

Art takes inspirations from everywhere: other stories, old shows, even real life. That's how it works. The thing is what you do with it and how you do it. Just look at Tarantino.

Stop believing a work is completely original. It is a detriment to your work and your craft. It stops you in your tracks and it forces you to be narrow minded.

Jeff Sneider from Collider said today that he spoke to someone who saw the film early and he told him that its great and Joaquin Phoenix totally deserves a best acting nom. Take with a grain of salt but Sneider dislikes nearly all CBMs, especially the DC films and he's not afraid to trash them.

We really gonna erase Leto from history aren’t we. :funny:

I'm afraid of getting too hyped with this movie. Last movies i was hyped af were BvS, Suicide Squad,, x-Men: Apocalypse, Jurassic World 2, and Glass, and all of them dissapointed me and were trashed by everyone. It's like a curse.

Wrong.

"“I saw videos showing people suffering from pathological laughter, a mental illness that makes mimicry uncontrollable,” the actor explained. The incredibly unfunny disease causes involuntary laughter or crying, usually separate from any kind of conventional trigger.

Interesting, thank you.

This looks like it has it's own identity. Really like it.

You never know. It'd be a treat to see how Pattinson would hold up against Phoenix, but hey.
This is set in the 1970's or 1980's If Pattinson's Batman takes place in 2021, Phoenix's Joker would be in his 80s or 90s by then.

70s i think. Arthur is on his 30s according to the script. Still damn old.
A part of me would wish they to make a sequel about Batsy and Phoenix's Joker meeting with the same realistic style, but i know it's problably for the best there's no sequels for this one. Just leave it to our imagination what will happen from here.

It will be incredible. that's damn right, but we will never see it.

Yeah I know the timeline is off, but if they go with comic book time or with the "this was all just Joker bull****ting with us" maybe.

The movie is set in the early 80's. A shot at the end of the trailer has a poster for Excalibur outside a movie theater. Which came out in 1981.

Well, Joker from Batman 1989 was older than Bruce, so it maybe could work somehow. They could set it between 2000-2010 where Joker would be on his 60s. Bruce would be on his 20s.

Another beautiful trailer. Phoenix has nailed that Joker laugh. Very similar to Hamill''s. I love it!

I'd really would love to See Joaqin Finally get his Oscar for this movie but knowing the Oscars and the way they feel about Comic Book Movies there is a slim chance of him getting it next year. Than again you never know this movie looks so good.

Just watched the trailer. Honestly, I still don't get it.

About the only thing I liked was his lecture to the pysch lady about his thoughts.
