Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

You mean besides the 3 movies that are part of that universe that were also hits? You mean besides all the films coming out in the future?

It was a nice try, but you need to give up the ghost.

Well, thanks for the non answer, written only to score points - for some reason I can’t be bothered to fathom.

My point is that if Joker is a success, surely it would show that the shared universe concept is no longer necessary going forward, and that they can allow film makers more freedom with their projects.

They've already made that determination.

I’d love to see an out of continuity R rated Batman movie with a healthy dose of horror.

From Pattinson interview. His comments about Joker is interesting. Probably has nothing to do with the future of The Batman.

“Pattinson won’t say whether he’s committed to additional “Batman” movies. “I don’t know anything,” he says. “I’ve got an idea how to do about four scenes, and then I’m working on the rest gradually.” At one point in our conversation, he offers a mundane comment about Joaquin Phoenix, who stars in “Joker” (a movie he hasn’t seen yet), before asking to retract it. “Oh s—,” he says, adding that he’s not accustomed to thinking about spoilers. “I definitely should not say that. I’m so used to pretty art-house movies, where you can watch the movie three times and still not know what it’s about.”
It has nothing to do with Batman, he accidentally spoiled the ending of Joker (or some vital plot point) to the person conducting the interview, nothing more.

I strongly hope that there wont be a sequel, maybe Phoenix to reject it if it ever happens. This movie was a critical success, let it stand as a stand-alone pedestial of victory for DC fans.

I mean jesus christ, Joker gained a higher score than Avengers Endgame in some big review sites. This is too much of a legend to mess with.

This feels tone-deaf in a time where mental illness is being wrongly linked to mass violence in the US. The film is aware enough to draw from great films about toxic masculinity and loneliness, but not enough to critique Arthur’s behaviour instead of painting him as a helpless loner driven to violence by forces out of his control.“

Sadly, we’re probably going to see more reviews like this. SMH

They can do both (Else-worlds and DCEU movies).

For now, all DCEU movies can be considered as stand alone movies even if they exist in a shared universe.
That's what I want honestly. The goal should be to make GOOD films about these characters first. Connecting them shouldn't be the goal when making a film about, say, Batman.

So they should do what they already said they were doing?

I am not trying to "score points" whatever that means. I have just seen you (and a few others) do this in threads for other movies.

Shazam was in the shared universe...didnt stop Sandberg from telling the story he wanted to tell. WW84 is in a shared universe, didnt stop Jenkins from all accounts. Aquaman directly references Justice League and is still its own story. You can have both.

Back to 85% now that Ehrlich's review's been added

Its really interesting that Joker is leading both Fipresci and Russian critics reviews grades. In the Italian, the difference to Polanski was only 0.4, but counting with those others, Joker is leading. Any other grades did leak?

I think it will end in 85% and Average Score around 8.2 or 8.5. Or maybe like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood around 7.9.

Are there any other positive reviews from the festival that hasn’t been added yet? I thought there were a couple of them.

This looks like it will become the next Clockwork Orange and Fight Club. GREAT reviews, but also some BAD reviews. The reception from the festival is great and the good reviews are just too good. A Cult movie, maybe.

They've already made that determination.

Have they? Seems like the DCEU rolls on with more movies... hence why I asked the question as to whether that’s the right strategy if Joker knocks it out of the park. They seem to be doing both things at the moment?

And they can. You asked if they realized that a shared universe isn't necessary, and they've already decided that. Just look at Joker and Reeves' standalone Batman film. Look at Hamada's own comments on the subject. Just because a shared universe isn't necessary doesn't mean they can't pepper a movie in here and there.

They're gonna do what they're gonna do. No sense getting hung up on it.

Nope. Too mainstream for the win.

If it's anything like Fight Club, it will have a lot of viewers appreciating it for the wrong reasons.

I think this movie wins all the awards. It seems to be the high brow entertainment that the academy assumes mainstream movies are destroying. They'll be quick to use this movie as the gold standard for comicbook movies and how The Joker is saving real cinema.
