Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

That sucks.
There are actually many great reactions there. It needs 200-300 votes to get a nom. And one said he was at a screening with 500 members and it got a good reaction. So not all of them seem to be insane or scared of this film. Though there are some reactions that seem to be from children that just watched their first horror film.

It is also well known that most oscar voters don't even watch the screeners and simply vote with the popular vote.
Yeah, check out the article on Cartoon Brew: Proof That Oscar Voters Are Clueless About Animation

With this comment I question If they have really seen any of Trier's films if they are saying Joker left them feeling disturbed more than "Antichrist" for example.

I love [Darren] Aronofsky, [Lars] von Trier, [Michael] Haneke and most movies that really push the boundaries of darkness. But there was a nihilism and narcissism to this movie that left a bunch of us feeling really disturbed, and we had to drink away our discomfort.

Makes me wonder how these people would feel if they watched The House That Jack Built.

I actually had this conversation with a friend recently:

Her: "I heard that Joker is 'Natural Born Killers' dark, so it's hard to watch."

Me: "Well, it's based on a character who once cut off his own face to wear as a decomposing mask, so you should know what you're getting into."

Her: *wide-eyed, speechless*

I think, for anyone "disturbed" it's due to how the violence is shot. Not sure if your head'll jerk back like that from a handgun, but the suddenness of it, how quickly he's lifeless (as in real life) is jarring for a picture based on a comic property. Same goes for the apartment attack.

Am I the only one who thinks all these controversial takes and people walking out of theaters is a bit of an...over reaction? I saw it, it was ok I guess, the acting was superb, but that's about it. If we're talking about just violence, John Wick has like 10x the body count, so I don't get why one would get turned off enough by this to actually walk out a theater.

After finally seeing this movie it would be a real shame if Phoenix didn't get some kind of awards recognition. His performance was really my favorite part of the whole thing and man does he carry it. Yeah the movie is pretty dark and violent at times, but I've seen far worse. I mean have any of these critics seen Snyder's Watchmen from 2009, because that's a far bleaker movie than this IMO and don't even get me started on how overblown the violence aspect is. Compared to John Wick's 1 2 and 3 this movie has nothing on those.

Hell even both of the Deadpool movies seemed more violent than this.

Honestly Joker wasn't even the most disturbing film of the year for me. I thought "The Nightingale" was more messed up.

"Dragged Across Concrete" takes the cake for me this year :funny:. That movie made me wince and wanted to vomit. That and "Brightburn".

one thing i got to say is the media coverage on this film was very awful and irresponsible all the hot takes, think pieces, articles were all about incels, white men, mass shootings, etc.

instead of talking about mental illness, treating people better, and the effects of people not getting the help and care they need and what can become when they dont

truly shows the society we are in

Which shows that the movie has a point, and that most people are *******s who would rather trample on mentally ill people rather than showing some empathy. As much as people call Thomas Wayne arrogant, I really don't think many would be that different from him.

My theater had police and a dog. And I can't stares from both the cops and the manager haha. I mean I was wearing a black hoodie, black jeans, and my hair is pretty much the length of Arthur's/kylo Rens, but it's just insane how much of a ****storm the media caused over this.

Well black hoodies usually mean you're up to no good.

Ehhh that's weird. But either way, i had it unzipped showing my joker shirt haha. I pretended to be more "upbeat" so people didn't get suspicious.

There were so many police in my area the night I saw Joker.

Not because of Joker itself, but because of a Carrie Underwood concert.

Well that was partly sarcasm, but I know people that view hoodies like that.

Usually if it's one of those morons who is inside a store or somewhere and they actually have the hood on hiding their face a bit. No reason for that if you're not outside and it's raining or just cold. I do my best not to judge a book by it's cover so I don't assume they are up to trouble but they're fools for doing that.
