Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

Might have something to do with the release date being several weeks away. Ad Astra opens a week from now and is at 85% Fresh and doesn't have the Certified Fresh rating either. Meanwhile Loro does and that also opens a week from now. Maybe they really don't give a **** there. :funny:

Rotten Tomatoes: About
Certified Fresh status is a special distinction awarded to the best-reviewed movies and TV shows. In order to qualify, movies or TV shows must meet the following requirements:
  • A steady Tomatometer score of 75% or higher.
  • At least five reviews from Top Critics.
  • Films in wide release must have a minimum of 80 reviews.
  • Films in limited release must have a minimum of 40 reviews.
  • Only individual seasons of a TV show are eligible, and each must have a minimum of 20 reviews.

A movie or TV show that reaches the requirements for Certified Fresh doesn't immediately receive the designation. Instead, it is automatically flagged for our staff's consideration. Once the team can determine that it's unlikely the score will drop below the minimum requirements, they will mark it Certified Fresh.

If the Tomatometer score drops below 70%, then the movie or TV show will lose its Certified Fresh status.

Oh damn they ehh are being a bit liberal with what they're showing there...

It might be time to not watch any more footage just saying for folks hoping to avoid spoilers

A snippet of a TV spot with a montage of various laughs! Also shows a bit more of the subway scene!

The beginning of the commercial can be found here:

That last laugh is just a reverb of the one from the last trailer, right? I could swear that's reminiscent of an old-school Hamill laugh. I can't believe a Hollywood actor may have actually matched Mark's intensity!

Only reaction I found from the new screening
I'm gonna have to see for myself if this is true. Don't get me wrong, from what I've seen from the trailers and leaked çlips, Phoenix is fantastic but ledgers portrayal is legendary and is on the level of Hannibal lector and Darth vader. it's no easy feat to top ledger so I'm gonna have to make that judgment for myself

Which is funny because Mads Mikkelsen is an underrated/infinitely better Hannibal than Anthony Hopkins. :o

Does anyone know when we can expect to hear some soundtracks?

Ah, so it depends on the width of the release...

This movie does look good, but count me in the camp that wishes the Joker had a sense of humor that made you laugh. Maybe not the right movie for what they were going for (the whole Incel angle) but I love Joker when he's filming television ads, running down grocery store aisles with a cart and kicking his legs up in excitement as if parodying the advertisement industry.

"You'd never hit a guy with glasses now, would ya" and Joker's birthday present to Bats in 'Christmas with the Joker' are what ultimately makes me want to see this character, not him bludgeoning Robin with a Crowbar or paralyzing Barabara Gordon.
Every time I see a response like this, I facepalm. Folks acting like Taxi Driver hasn't been around for decades.

Here’s how I think it will be:

Phoenix will give the better performance as a man who loses his mind and turns into a flamboyant psychopath.

Ledger is the ****ing JOKER.

I mean, the whole point of The Joker should be that nothing he does is funny to anyone but himself, right? He’s a monster.

They all did good work, as there are countless interpretations of Joker in media. There is no definitive.

I mean, based on your description of Phoenix, that sounds like the Joker to me. Just in the leaked clips I've seen, Phoenix seems to be giving us a scarier and more angry Joker.

I will stand by my opinion that The Joker without Batman isn’t really ‘The Joker’.

And The Joker isn’t really just a man who snaps and becomes a psychopath... that would be a very bad description of the character. He’s the clown prince of crime. A mad genius. An unpredictable force of chaos. An embodiment of everything Batman stands against. He’s so much more that Falling Down, or a frustrated incel in clown face make-up.

Now... don’t misunderstand me, I don’t seek to criticise this film or Phoenix’s performance. From everything I’m seeing it looks like it’s going to be a very good character drama, but - as I’ve already stated - it’s also a story inspired by The Joker, rather than a movie about him... because there’s so much missing from the characterisation. Not least of which is having no Batman.

Jojo Rabbit won TIFF
Joker doesn't even finalist.

Well if anyone wants to be Joker 2019 for Halloween, go to Amazon bc they've got you covered, though some are very pricey.

Damn, controversial films all winning everything.

It's a top 3, isn't that bad this movie isn't finalist. Neither Waves or Ford V Ferrari are there.
