Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

If they did a character study film for Harley Quinn much like they did for Joker like how Joaquin has...would her movie sell
At this point I'm already done with the whole Harley Quinn thing.

Jason Momoa, James Gunn, and the Suicide Squad cast went to the premiere to see it. So none of the other CBM actors and directors seem to be offended by what he said. Just like Black Narcissus said, Phillips only said that to get Phoenix to join the movie.

Yeah this is cbm fans being overly sensitive. He has clarified his thinking multiple times on this.

It’s literally just because it’s a comic book character. If this film were called ‘Arthur’ and had no connection to a Batman villain, none of this pushback would be happening.

...mind you, then the film wouldn’t be getting anywhere near the attention and focus it is. It’d be about as high profile as You Were Never Really Here.

The outrage is ridiculous, but I guess it’s to be expected when the mainstream see a comic book character positioned in a film like this.
Where was all of this controversy when the movie Kick Ass came out? It too is a comic book movie, and happened to have a little girl that was pretty much a psychotic killer who was being trained by her father for revenge. And mind you, it's one of my favorite movies, but when you peel back the layers, that's what it is, fundamentally, and no one back then said a peep.

From what we know, BoP is also going to be pretty violent movie but since that is not a serious movie and unlike Joker it's not a character study, maybe Critics will treat it differently, just like Kick Ass movie.

Violent similar to Drive? I never thought it was that graphic. There was some violence, but Watchmen felt far more violent than anything in Drive.

At least, I don't think if it's something similar it's worth of warning signs beyond "R".

It will be interesting to see how much it drops in 2nd week.

watchmen had stylized cartoonish violence like nite owl breaks because arms and legs like toothpicks

its all about the delivery and something like drive is way more realistic watchmen might be more violent but its delivery is very cartoonish

It felt more repulsive in Watchmen.

I don't even think the controversy was this big with The Punisher despite what happened in Las Vegas.

But anyway, it's Joker week. The movie is finally coming out, I'm excited to read more reviews until I can see it for myself.

There was quite a bit of controversy over Hit Girl actually.

Audiences will probably hate this because it's a slow burn and there's no Batman.

I don't remember much in the way of concern over Hit Girl. The threat of middle aged vigilantes training their tween daughters into becoming hyper-violent mob assassins was, at that time, relatively low.

Not there because Kick Ass was about a very niche character. And Hit Girl did generate some controversy anyway, from what I remember.

But... central point here: if you take the main villain from the most popular comic book character in the world, and a character of huge popularity in his own right - and position him as a domestic terrorist, with ‘incel’ like tendencies... expect controversy, given today’s rather febrile environment.

The only controversy Hit Girl generated was her langue. And even that most people didn't care about and just thought it was cute.
