Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

ok, because i heard it thrown around a lot (like the Requiem for a dream reference) thanks for your view, anyways ;)

So, you are fine with people who have either violently dangerous severe mental issues, or actual murderous terrorist intent, freely walking the streets. . . as long as they kill people with something *other* than a gun?

Perhaps part of the problem is an unwillingness to correctly place blame, because its so much more comforting to assume that if no one had this one inanimate object, than all murderous intent would go away. After all, that would mean there aren't people with actual ill intent out there.

I correctly - very, very, very correctly - place the blame for mass shootings on a society, and a government, that fetishises, desires, celebrates and covets guns.

You can’t get rid of murderous intent, but you can sure as hell get rid of weapons that are designed to easily kill. Just because you don’t want to, doesn’t mean you can’t.

There are people with murderous intent in my country, but I’m not that worried about them because they can’t get hold of semi automatic weapons. Simple.

Speaking of AwardsWatch, @Boom are images still blocked there? LOL I got out of there the second they did that since 90% of what I posted were news, videos and pics
Yep. They're facing legal issues of some kind. I wonder if it's something similar to what SHH had to deal with a few years back.

You'll have people that are even less inclined to go see if just to play it safe, and you'll have people that are even more inclined to see it just to see what all the fuss is about. I think those two factors will ultimately balance themselves out to a point where neither will have a significant impact.

Plus let's face it : this is the Joker, and this is Joaquin Phoenix, one of the greatest and most respected actor in the world, in the iconic role. And it's not like people are not talking about it since some months, predicting oscars. Whatever happen with awards ( and it has already win one important one giving food to conversation and buzz) people are going to see Joker

Wouhouuuu!! Have a great one man :D

Hoping to see it tomorrow, Maximum hype level :woo:

Wish my local IMAX was showing it :/. Now I’ll have to watch it with annoying commoners who’ll laugh at every single line funny or not

I watched it during lunch break so nobody was there but me and another couple. The guy was yawning through the whole thing though lol.

I disagree. I admit to some the story may be derivative, but mixed with the score, acting and directing, this one is not a pastiche. It's a drama that could be set in the same universe from Taxi Driver. The vibe and protagonist are very different. Taxi Driver is a thriller. This one feels like a full horror movie. Takes the style from Scorsese and mixes it with Fight Club and gives us something i think it's very special. Don't compare the execution to Taxi Driver, because this one isn't doing the same, but creating something different with the same tools. That's something that artists always do.

But i respect your opinion, ofc. And i see why you may dislike the film.

This makes me want to see it.

I've been reading everyone's reviews, and the things people hate about it, as well as what they love about it, are what's tipping me in the favor of seeing it (eventually). I'm personally hoping it does REALLY well critically, financially, and during awards season. I LOVE Marvel. Spider-Man is the greatest hero EVER as far as I'm concerned, but even I have to admit with Endgame and Far From Home, the Marvel formula is getting tiring. I love it, but it's nice to get a different type of film like this one, Logan, Deadpool, Dredd...the more R-rated films that can dive head first into the thick of it and be something different.
The MCU can't really do that.
Can they make an R-rated MCU flick? Yeah. Will they? Doubt it.
Props to DC/WB on even making this movie, let alone potentially making it GOOD. If my "brain trust" sees it and likes it, I may check it out in a couple of weeks. We'll see. Either way, hoping the best for this film.

71% now...

Anyways I saw it.

I can’t really express a coherent thought about it.

The Guardian's review is seriously comical. The movie is too serious? It's as if people are expecting an action comedy in the vein of Deadpool. I really wish some critics who are hating on the film would try to look at the material through an adult lens instead of comparing it to a traditional comic book movie.

That's why I don't know how general audiences will react to it. I think most are kind of expecting a traditional comic book movie

I'm actually optimistic about the Box Office.

Provided the press doesn't succeed in making everyone scared, this doesn't seem like the sort of movie you can not see. It's a water-cooler movie. It's all anyone is going to be talking about for a few weeks.

Im expecting Joker to hit $500+ mil WW. I would bet on it easily.
