Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

Eh, for them to do a direct sequel to this but somehow involved Batman, they would have to have a special concept beyond just making a movie where this Joker meets Batman for me. I would absolutely take more Phoenix as Joker in the future, but I don't want them to make a cash grab. My worry with the Batman idea is we may be teetering that line between art and cash grab

If Joaquin Phoenix is willing to say play the role in the Matt Reeves film, by all means get him. But ask for a direct sequel to this movie that is not connected to anything else made squarely to see Batman fight the Joker has me concerned without hearing further justification for it. There would need to be something interesting to learn about the Joker and his psyche in the movie beyond his probable love and worship of Batman

This wasn't a comic book origin movie. It was an examination of a pitiable little man with severe psychological issues, a narcissism complex, and a vivid - and dangerous - fantasy life.

To me, that was the only problematic thing about the movie. Otherwise it was basically Taxi Driver by way of DC. I thought it was quite good, and Joaquin Phoenix's performance was excellent. He was no Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson just barely edges him out for me, but bonus points have to be awarded for that great laugh of his. I'd love to see him return for a future film facing off against Batman.

I don't see the correlation. The movie is from Joker's point of view, so even if we're presented a universe where we're not following his point of view, it doesn't remove any ambiguity of this particular story. It's basically a beast of a different color.

The only way you remove ambiguity from this movie is to directly spell things out about things that happened within this movie. Showing a confrontation between Batman and Joker sometime in the future that has nothing to do with these events does nothing other than chronicle a confrontation between Batman and Joker. It would have nothing to do with this movie

Yeah, I agree. It would be like saying any story outside of The Killing Joke undoes the ambiguity of that book. It doesn’t.

If there’s another movie with Phoenix as the Joker it will confirm that the events at the end of this movie happened, rather than potentially all being in his head as a fantasy. Ambiguity gone.
